The use of force was totally unnecessary, however they DID issue a dispersal order. The people were warned to leave the area or force would be taken, they did not leave and force was taken - it shouldn't have been a surprise.
I think it's funny. These kids are asking to be tased and beat, fucking morons tackle the cops and throw dumpsters and just stand i ntheir way like retards. If I was there I would've accidentally loaded my rifle with live rounds.
It's ill-advised to stand in front of incoming riot police and not move, but still. I guarantee there will be class-action lawsuits. Don't make me call the ACLU on those cops.
In Greece we have a joke: what is the change in police behaviour 50 years ago and now? Answer: 50 years ago they had clubs and beated up people they arested until they broke. Now clubs are made of plastic and don't break!
The next step: protestors will start "disappearing". One day they will be home or at work, next day they will be gone and no one will know where they went.
Listen, there is an INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION going on and therefore security is going to be tight and tensions are going to be high. The cops gave ample opportunity for the dumb ass students to go back to their dorms to study instead of assemble in mass and be a potential threat to the world leaders, the cops, the city, the buildings etc. The students instead chose to be rubberneckers and demonstrate their supposed self righteousness against authority. Those who stayed outside deserved it.
Oakland (Pitt's campus, not to be confused with the California town of the same name) is far from the Convention Center to begin with, separated from the area by the Hill District. Furthermore, I talked to several people that were there, and they consistently told me that the police surrounded them, pushed them around, and basically did everything they could do in their power to PREVENT people from leaving. I doubt you were actually there, since you...
...don't even know that Oakland is far away from the Convention Center.
..crud, this is supposed to be a reply to OrientOranges.
Also, this took place after the convention was over. Granted, the protestors needed a license to be able to legally assemble on the Union's lawn. They were technically in the right to disperse the protestors; however, the tear gas and rubber pellets were unnecessary, and the fact that they prevented those at the assembly from leaving and spraying mace up INTO...
...DORMS is absolutely, a hundred percent inexcusable.
As for you, OrientOranges, at least bloody inform yourself on the location of Pitt's campus and the time of the assembly in relations to the summit before you go and make wild claims that the peaceful assembly at Pitt was in any way a threat to world leaders.
I'm just glad that ignorant fucks like you will not likely be allowed to join the police force.
@VirusofLife182 I'd have to agree from what i've heard, there macho idiots all dreesed up with noplace or really no one to fight with, so they went to pick on the college kids. I commend them that Pittsburgh wasn't trashed but alot of what I saw and was told about was just macho, hero cops getting there rocks off by pushing around college kids, not a fan of the popo what-so-ever anymore!
you should have megaphoned back "we're standing on pavement not water, it's our wish speak to your superior." when they "by order deemed it unlawful" capture their non response to mediation, un provoked attack, neglection of duty, criminal negligence, aiding and abedding terrorists and terrorism for political gains to bring it before a judge.
It doesn't take 200 Policy enforcers using firearms on you to realize that every citizen is treated like a corporate entity.

sorry but i saw NO police brutality or anything of the nature. those kids should know to stay away and quit trying to create drama...I LOVE MY CITY!!!
Same here, but there was police brutality. They attacked a zombie for asking to where they wanted him to move. He wasn't a protester, but he did play Duck, Duck, Goose with the anarchists Black Block. It was one green suit riot officer, but 2 others joined in. This was beside Cathedral of Learning last night. They broke up a peaceful demonstration on a public space (not on roads, not hindering business or travel, don't need a permit).
I would throw a bomb in middle of them..

the sad thing is no ambulance would ever make it in there because the military industrial complex took over the streets.
That man was having a heart attack.
These are students from the university of pittsburgh. take a look at 3:22
many laws are being broken. LAWS not statutes. and its not the students doing it.
