He is as solid, disciplined and emotionless as a freaking machine. Back in the days you had loose passive fish and tight, blind-bleeding fish. Now there is too much aggression and mix up that approaches the strategic Nash equilibrium thanks to the internet. Anyone who doesn't follow it will lose but amongst the rest, there are just too many deathmines for a champ to really have credibility.
Even if it's true that he isn't really like this (which I doubt), he chooses to behave this way, he can take the criticism and backlash. I use Phil Hellmuth videos to show my children why they aren't allowed to throw temper tantrums. If you behave this way, you'll grow up to be like this man. Not a temper tantrum in sight.

I noticed from the comments people have no idea how to play poker. You do not win by playing weak hands and hoping to get lucky. You win by playing small pots with strong hands and letting your opponet make mistakes. This is how Phil plays, and why he has more braclets than anyone ever to play the game.

Hellmuth played the hand like an idiot. He raised it up, got a call. He should've tossed in a continuation bet after the flop to see where he stood. His check after the flop was an unambiguous show of weakness. Everyone in the building knew that he missed the flop. Dragomir could've had anything and easily took down the pot. Hellmuth should look in the mirror.

Thus, Dragomir should only call a bet/raise that is at most 33% of the pot (when that new bet/raise is added to the pot). Phil's raise made the the pot $398,000, so Dragomir should call only if his required call is at most ~$132,000. But his required call was much more than that: $175,000. So it was the wrong play.
Except that Phil with all his antics more or less told Dragomir that the put him on a AA pre-flop. Nothing wrong with applying pressure at that point.
This is why Hellmuth hasn't won a bracelet in recent years. Poker has evolved and the way Hellmuth played back in the day has become the basics of poker.
Being unpredictable is the best weapon in poker now.

I noticed from the comments people have no idea how to play poker. You do not win by playing weak hands and hoping to get lucky. You win by playing small pots with strong hands and letting your opponet make mistakes. This is how Phil plays, and why he has more braclets than anyone ever to play the game.

In tournaments it does not work like in cash games: there's a lot more gambling going on. Hellmuth would like everybody to play predictably, forgetting that he won himself a bracelet against Chan by going all in with 99 (when other players like Dwan did something similar to him and sucked out, he raved at them), and that Brunson won 2 with 10-2

Hellmuth played the hand like an idiot. He raised it up, got a call. He should've tossed in a continuation bet after the flop to see where he stood. His check after the flop was an unambiguous show of weakness. Everyone in the building knew that he missed the flop. Dragomir could've had anything and easily took down the pot. Hellmuth should look in the mirror.

@Lolmeistercom Actually, Dragomir's call to Phil's raise was incorrect. Let's say that Dragomir knew that he had a 33% chance of hitting the flop and Phil not hitting the flop. Thus, Dragomir should only call a bet/raise that is at most 33% of the pot (when that new bet/raise is added to the pot). Phil's raise made the the pot $398,000, so Dragomir should call only if his required call is at most ~$132,000. But his required call was much more than that: $175,000. So it was the wrong play.

This is why Hellmuth hasn't won a bracelet in recent years. Poker has evolved and the way Hellmuth played back in the day has become the basics of poker.

And btw, calling a re-raise with 10-4 off suit, was, is and will always be a bad move in poker.

regardless of how dragomir played or anything phil was way out of line no one can deny that. obv anyone would be angry in phils position but you cant act like that at the wsop or anywhere. it doesnt matter how good or bad a call he made...someone like phil has to realize luck is indeed a part of poker...if AK beat T4 every single time it wouldnt be poker anymore
that being said, id nvr do anything like that with a T4.

Dragomir made a basic positional call then spiked a 10, hardly the worst suckout in poker history....but I would be remiss if I did not ask....Where is this Dragomir fellow now? Haven't heard of him since this. Hellmuth, in his defence, has 3 2nd places this year and has a significantly better track record. But Dragomir's reaction was both classy and priceless.
