  • as informative as it is funny..gr8 series..BBC should have commisioned more episodes..personally i'd like to have see one on Archimedes..musch wasn't known about him but he fascinates me a lot from what is know of him

  • Marx had a maid? You don't hear that mentioned often by the leftards

  • @PutItAway101 Probably because it's not an essential aspect of his ecomomic theories. Had it been more relevant or you been more educated in the subject I'm sure you'd hear it more often

  • @DaKrazyKatt But it is an essential aspect of him being a hypocrite.

  • @PutItAway101 Not really. The social relationship between employer and employee is different from that of bourgeoisie and proletariat. Had Marx been a capitalist then yeah, you'd have a point.

  • Elites of the world unite! You have nothing to lose but your workforce!

  • I really try to understand the british accent but I just can't!

  • I wish my lectures were like this.

  • If he means "Les Miserables" 5:20 wasn't that about the 1832 uprising? Love the lectures, and would be surprised if he's wrong.

  • @1empathy You're right, he's wrong... It was only a humorous point he was making though.

Most of the factual stuff in this comes from Francis Wheen's biography- in fact i think that's Wheen himself doing the voice of Liebniz at 7.58.

  • Love the Big Brother parody.

  • Merci pour la education, la vulgarisation de la philosophie.

    Bon travail!~

    Dr John Carsanook

    Kingdom of Thailand

  • I laughed, I cried.

  • my god he was just a filthy thug

  • Fact. The British and the American working class are too fat and too lazy to join any revolution. All they are left with is contentment that there is somebody who is worse off than they themselves are.

  • @ondimo Not all, just most im afraid. Having to live with these robots is very difficult.

  • @MyOroInvictus

Agreed sir. Abthony Giddens should be ashamed of that statement.

  • That one statement pretty much fucks Anthony Giddens.

  • what?? Two opposing Classes?? Yes, in the west this is true, but there are Three opposing Classes in European society, 1-The Proletariat!.....2-The Bourgoise!.........and 3- The Nobility!

  • @acerb45666555

the Nobility is part of the Bourgoise

  • mharris....nope! the Nobility is descended from mostly Medieval families. but the Bourgoise are just "New money" types! just common merchants etc. certainly not in the same class as an ancient established Noble family!

  • @acerb45666555 Does not matter who they are descended from. There is no intrinsic difference except perhaps for a bit more inbreeding.

  • @mharris666

Wrong I believe the aristocracy hate the bourgoise and vice versa and see themselves separate

  • this Mark Steel is fun to hear and watch!.... Michael Wood now has serious competition in the documentary lecture game!

  • That part with Marx smoking made my laugh so hard xD

  • Great Stuff! It really is too bad that Communism doesn't work. On paper it's truly beautiful. Pesky human beings and their self interest...

  • i think you missed the point. what marx said was that human nature isn't some abstract magical thing - it's based on the economic and social realities of the society we live in. analysing humanity under capitalism and discovering we act in short-term self-interest (generally) isn't exactly surprising is it?

  • What word is that at 4.32? Not quite the same ... is there?

  • 'Oomph'

  • @Nicke655321 At 4.32 he says "in fact demands"

  • "I laughed and cried" - Lenin

    This was smashing! :DDD

  • bien ahI! bien por vos y bien por la bbc!!

  • Well done and well conceived!!! The 19th century meets the 21st century!!!

  • This is education fit for ALL! this is what can save the dumb kids.

  • @jimdidr Fuck off. Just for that, I'm gonna go and watch X factor.

  • Hurray!

Shame the BBC don't repeat the series more, the best series on years.

  • @pastrychef1985 The BBC repeat communist policies 24 hours a day.

  • @warriorprince1010 I actually fail to see this at all.

  • @pastrychef1985 You need ears for radio, but yes on TV they do indeed supports far left policies, and little else.

  • @warriorprince1010 Concrete examples?

  • @warriorprince1010 Rubbish. The BBC is overly deferential to whatever government is in power as they fear that the TV licence fee, which funds their services, will be abolished by any government they displease too much. They are complained about by the right for being too left wing and by the left for being too right wing so they can't win I suppose.

  • @heliotropezzz333 Poor attempt dude. It is accepted the BBC are far left. They were in total support of Labours left wing policies and only criticized them when they went to the centre, same with the EU. The Labour party kept allowing the BBC to raise the license fee on ordinary people, a poll tax, hence the loyal support of Labour the BBC has shown.

  • @warriorprince1010 'Far left'. Surely you are joking?!

  • @warriorprince1010 hahhahaha Labours "left wing" polices? You must be living in a dream world

  • @almanacofsleep You may find poverty and unemployment funny. But I do not. The EU is making us all poorer. Poverty at record levels in the EU.

  • @warriorprince1010 No I find your willfully ignorant viewpoint funny.

  • Respond to this video... Marxs offered no idea and no solutions. He simply said society was unfair, which has been the case since the beginning of power.

  • @pastrychef1985 If it supports Marxism the BBC will make a 24 month series on it.

  • @warriorprince1010 Hahhahahahha you must be living in a dream world

  • Good stuff!!!
