  • Great video thanks for posting this, I havent seen the full version of this before. Ueshiba had obviously perfected Aikido by this time. I study a little bit of Tai Chi also but I think Aikido is a lot smoother as it allows energy to flow continuously - life preserving - whereas Tai Chi is about disruption of opponents energy - death. Sorry if I confused most of the posters here, dont judge something you will never understand.

  • the music is from death note

  • so beautiful, so easy and smooth

  • try the aikido so you can feel it a,and not leave a stupid comment

  • all i can see is people jumping around while holding him.

  • Please leave the bickering on other pages. This is not a place for fighting.

  • Velly najs!

    (very nice)

  • sigh* dont make me go watch deathnote for 5th time :S

  • And again, I wonder why he was the only aikido fighter I ever met who tried that in an octagon.

  • I thought an Aikido style fighter in an octagon, and he only floored me once. The rest of the time he couldn't avoid a simple grapple, pre dodge a mere jab. This looks more like a show put on than training.

  • @theewhiteguy aikido is not an aggressive martial art. the octagon is a show put on for entertainment while aikido is a way of living. aikido is the way of harmony. if anything fighting is the last thing you want to do AND TRUST ME. those flips are real, its not just made to look pretty, the center of the body is used to literally force the opponent to the ground while you cage fighters use big muscles and always want to win competitions.

  • Fuckin 9gaggers... I'll not ever be "the only one" anymore!!!!

  • Like in 9 gag :)

  • Like this if you come because the 9 gag post!

  • @OnurKeci Nope .. i'll post my own fucking coment ;)!

  • @OnurKeci fuck you and 9puke

  • 9 gag ? ;)

  • Wow .. that is a great video.

  • Don't tell me Aikido is like Parkour, a sport learning how to run away..... If Learning Aikido is learning how to fall, then why are all the masters do not show beginners how to fall? 10000++ people mock aikido means something is wrong :D

  • @cumiho

Parkour is also learning how to CHASE and kick ass!!

  • Death Note FOR THE WIN

  • @AikikaiAikido The Death Note music was a very good idea, especially at start! thanks alot for this great video

  • tossin' them bitchezz around

  • You cannot question before trying to understand.

  • kinda looks like a faill dance show and no ninja skills

  • @M4s84 Because Aikido is Ninjutsu?

  • @ravisdb who taught you jkd

  • This grandpa is joking right? He touches the guys and they throw themselves away like were touched by Goku SSJ..

  • @MrJayyBe Part of the aikido is to learn how to fall properly. These guys know how to ease their fall. If this "grandpa" would do these moves with you, you would fall down like a log.

  • @MrJayyBe Learning Aikido is 80% learning how to fall, because if you don't you can hurt yourself alot.

that is why this Martial Art looks so "fake" to many people, the executioner isn't the one who throws them, it's the "victims" who throws himself to avoid serious damage.

  • @MrJayyBe aikido is great, the techs, but this is shit

  • coooooool!

  • @Aikidofight fake

  • 7:08, can someone advanced in aikido explain what happened there? I am 5th kyu kokikai and can't see what is happening.

  • @TheFerricoxide Around 7:00, he demonstrates a one-on-one disarming technique, which is then followed by a demonstration of the same technique when surrounded.

  • @Haakonw123 Ahh! I did bring this video up with my sensei and I found out that for the purposes of demonstration they all drop the weapons down at the last second so as to avoid injuring their fellow ukes. It seemed fake but in unison with dojo etiquette it makes sense.

  • @TheFerricoxide and a one year practionier of mma could waste you, be quiet

  • fake. attackers are taking the dive to make him look good.

  • @seanincali1 no really, grandpa has been a warrior, jujutsu, sojutsu, kenjutsu, blabla... but then he created aikido which was great. then came idiots =his students, and they start to fly like fags. and theyll say that is for not to get hurt, but if can see, many of them are flyng before he/or someone is making a technique

  • O'sensei. No more need to be sad.

  • o sensei went undefeated all his life, he faced many boxers, karate, kung fu,judo, wrestleling people and he beat them all he is trueley the greatest

  • @ravisdb Not true, he was travel around Japan with the bokken. He challenged and stay study who defeated him. After he was a true master of Aikido, he was undefeated.

  • o sensei is so relax, and such a hight level of skill,he is truely amazing.I have jkd ,arnis shotokan karate training and aikido beats them all aikido can be very deadly so aikido people out there dedicate your to training and no one will stop you.

  • It's good to see O-Sensei as a young man. It give a tremendous perspective.

  • Oh. This is that new Kinect game where you wave your hands in the air and send people flying. Day one purchase for me.

  • i like the death note music

  • if this guy ever fought prof vee, i bet 10 smackaroo's there would be an atomic explosion and a mushroom cloud that you could see from space. nice vid, beautiful art form....2 bad im a cripple

  • @gangstarr0work You can still cultivate a positive mindset.

  • Can somebody who tries Aikido, explain to me how come at the first part of this video.. when their sensei holds them.. they automatically do the rolling fall and as what I see, he was just like holding them and they automatically roll.. does it involve wrist locks and twists? .. I need an explanation. Thank you

  • @jamiebonsay Its called ukemi...youtube that.

  • my Guru says.. 'you never see the same river again and again' just because the water flows..and that's a great lesson but specially works in wonderful rivers and art works like this one.. by the by I do not know what is that they like so much of Saint Lorenz River.. is not even a river to me.. but any way.. so rare.. my Guru I means..

  • When O Sensei Ueshiba was alive, no one can claim that they beat him. Many Masters had challenged O Sensei when he was young and he defeated all of them, some became his students. Same thing with Bruce Lee, he took on whoever challenged him and beat all of them. The new generation of fighters (i.e., MMA), they learned how to hurt people with physical force/muscle power, but have no clue about Ki/Chi because it is way above their heads. One needs to be open minded, so he can learn new things.

  • What is wrong with people today? Why can we just respect each other and every martial art? In the old days, that was the first thing the teacher taught the students. You can try it out for yourself and if it works, then use it...If it does not work, then do not use it. The bottom line and the real objective of studying Martial Artist is to master over himself/herself...I see many people still have BIG EGO and think that their Arts is the best. One should master one style and then another one

  • @DHL428 why should anyone try to master art that is fake, and unpractical-tell me that. aikid is only for man who cant bend their back and for girls, grannies etc. today, a lot of fogsellers are infesting aikido dojos, claiming to be real, and i n the end they are just silly and illusive idiots

  • This is priceless clip. Thank you very much for posting it.

  • is that old japanese dance?

  • @scottyongyong No dance, a Martial Art XD

  • its pretty to watch but hell they just kick him in the face

  • very true kuk sool is very much the same if ur not trained to fall its a hard face plant or broken bone.amazing how thick headed and ignorent wanta learn kick and punch martial sport practioners are kinda funny really.

  • very true kuk sool is very much the same if ur not trained to fall its a hard face plant or broken bone

  • nonsense

  • Well put ontoverse!!

  • @MrBodrioski I used to practice Judo at the Kodokan in 1960-1964 and we all took Akido classes for meditative reasons and I concede that a good Aikidoka has a chance against a knife man but not against a good knife man as such a man will not be running into the circle like a bull nor tripping over himself as is seen in all the Aikido demonstrations. As for not having a clue about martial arts - these very same words were said to me and the class by our instructor Sensei Takahashi 8th dan.

  • Amazing...how sparingly he moves. Sometimes it's only barely possible to follow what happens.

  • This is good.Very good indeed

  • This is the best Aikido video I've ever seen - not surprising, since it is of O'Sensei! Love it! How beautiful

  • it's beautiful I like it

  • 合気道は日本の警察や軍隊でも採用されていました

    それは合気道が「武器」と組み合わせると強いからです

  • I honor Morihei Ueshiba's work. I teach internal energy work (peaceful warrior) which borrows a few exercises from Aikido. Thousand of people I have taught benefited just from the little I know from this amazing practice.I wonder how many millions of lives have been changed because of Ueshiba's contribution.

  • Pretty amazon demonstration.

  • Jezuz...

  • It is special to see history in action a real innovator and treasure.

  • Excelent.

  • The aim of the martial arts is self awareness. Judging others has no place in that.

  • Beaultiful. Thank you for uploading!

  • this is completely ridiculous :(

  • It is staged as anyone can see. The only realistic aspect of Aikido is the small circle close in fighting. Otherwise it is like a chinese martial arts movie.

  • @JoachimderZweite You obviously have no idea what you are talking about :) In Aikido, practice is made up of 2 people, the tori who fights, and the uke who falls. Every Aikidoka starts with learning how to fall and roll so that when the tori use a move, they would not break any bone. If it had been you, I can assure you, you would break like a straw.

Smackdown, that is staged. Aikido, its philosophy has been using the opponent's attack to backfire at him, and only fight to defend yourself.

  • @nh0kgink Well I took a lot of Aikido falls and rolls and even more Judo falls and I did not break like a straw and I do concede my limited knowledge but thanks for the uke/tori (ho hum) lesson.

  • @nh0kgink We call the attacker nage

  • @bebzoner the one executing the technique is tori. nage is the throw or projection, or can also be referred to as the person throwing. just Google 'tori aikido' :)

  • ¡Muy bueno!

    Very good!

    Très bon!

    Molto bene!

    Molt be!

  • Wow, that was cool

  • to all the haters: I have been thrown ki-no-nagare (full speed/force) by my sensei more than once, and I can attest from personal experience that if you do not follow the throw through (correctly), you are done. No more fighting for you. That's why the attacks look "unrealistic". I've been made to feel like a fool more than once, skipping along on one foot while trying my best to punch, kick or grapple my sensei. Martial arts are universal, no one is better than the practitioner.

  • @ontoverse Actually the attacks are unrealistic because of Morihei Ueshiba's desire to make the art as unaggressive as possible.

  • @ontoverse Indeed. I did it for just 6 months as a teen many years ago, and a mature lady used to throw me around like a rag-doll. I once questioned the instructor with {What happens if I do not follow you}. I tried not to follow him, and as you say, the result is as it would be in the street. It hurts. The falling - the {ukemi} is for the sake of the attacker. As you say, there is no {best} martial art.

  • @staninjapan07 how silly.. why would you follow/or do things from procedure like it is trained in dojos. most people today know how to make a hit, and you really think that they will grab you, and stand still. no theyll wack you. try to attack that granny for real, man she would be wasted. JUST A BUNCH OF HARRY POTTERS. and dont shit me about "WE DONT FIGHT, WE DONT DO THAT, WE DONT SPAR". BLABLA. aikido is great art, as an army instrucotr i know that... but it is infested by FOGSELLERS

  • @SuperPurgatorio Hello. Thank you for your (rather unclear) response to a comment I appear to have made. Not having a photographic memory, I would appreciate you properly quoting what I said, and also using clear English to do so, in order that I can take your comment seriously - as you are no doubt aware, there are lots of kids just randomly responding to videos here, and most often doing so in rather poor English. Thank you (If you are not a native English speaker, sorry).

  • Comment removed

  • @SuperPurgatorio (1) I didn't claim that I didn't understand (2) I speak 3 languages but boasting is childish (3) being in the army, you "should be" a mature and well-balanced "man", and not someone who screems like an angry disaffected teenager (4) your "words" do not "hurt" me. They are merely an annoyance (5) you started this dialogue by trying to teach me what you think I don't know, based on my comment about my childhood. Do you want readers to take you seriously?

  • @SuperPurgatorio I have now found your comment. To answer you: "I would follow..." as you put it, in order not to get smacked by my instructor who was (now deceased) a national UK coach and who, when he hit you, hurt you for real, as a powerful and skilled practitioner of Aikido, but also as a ruthless instructor. Do not forget that I aslo mentioned that I was a teenage boy. As an army instructor, you (1) "should" understand following guidance (2) probably do Timika.

  • glad to c legend in action cant rate or comment on this am at no level to say anything except wow

  • It is good to find old film like this..very rare. Thank You for sharing.

  • there is no resistance from any of his attackers?

  • muito bom

  • @konman001: Ki/Chi has nothing to do with religion. There's plenty of bibliography on Ki/Chi on its importance in daily life and keeping a healthy body. In its essence, I don't see it as contradictory to any religion either, any action you do involves ki/chi from your body. In aikido it could also be interpreted as internal energy, courage, breathing, determination or timing.

  • I can't believe he is O'sensei, he looks so young xD!! Amazing video, really liked it!!

  • great!! (:

  • 03:25 to 05:11 .. what is this song called ?

  • o sensei was very special indeed, very powerful and skillfull and his ki was unbelivable but is was the wiseist of them all.

  • @ravisdb - I don't believe in "ki' - it's contradictory to Christian faith. Nevertheless, I do believe in such thing as skill, innovation, patience and hard work - all of which are demonstrated by Ueshiba San in this video. Personally, my favorite martial arts expert from the old era is Kyuzo Mifune - the 10th dan in Judo. There are several videos on youtube in which demonstrate his knowledge: /watch?v=WMw_Jtn3Avc

Unfortunately, some of his knowledge unfortunately has been pernamently lost

  • @konman001 Ki/Chi is the same thing as the human soul in Christianity, HUMAN LIFE FORCE. That spiritual energy that God gives us so we can live and exist. Why are so many Christians ignorant bastards? Seriously, you're giving me a bad name here. Also Ki/Chi can refer to the old explanation of Physics. The term has many meanings, but none that contradict Christian faith. Do your homework before thinking.

  • All paths teach there own wisdom, best we do not forget this. thank you for reminding us that.

  • @lordofchanging1 ...where? (they are going there with their grammar) ...or what?

  • When people say MMA they generally mean bjj or Sambo, western boxing & Muay Thai. True MMA's must consist of far more than these 'sport' orientated systems.

  • martial and to be truly martial, should address all areas of a fight, whether that be groundwork, modern weapons (i.e. baseball bats, knives, chains, sticks, guns, bottles, etc), multiple attackers, conditioning, etc. MMA in its best form is a composite art which encompasses all these areas of fighting and that's why I train in numerous arts e.g. chin na, wing chun kung fu, Muay Boran, western boxing, sambo, bjj, kodokan judo, silat, daito ryu aikijutsu, Iwama ryu aikido, hapkido, etc.

  • people have when viewing aikido is uke always reaching for the hand, unrealistic attacks such as shomenuchi / yokumen strikes in demonstrations, etc. Also, there is no groundwork whatsoever, no conditioning of the striking parts of the body, etc. The same can be said for daito ryu, especially in contrast to grappling specialists e.g. bjj, sambo, kosen judo or newaza of judo, etc. IMHO, realistic goshin waza should be introduced very early on in practise. These arts were all designed to be

  • Aikido has many good attributes i.e. blending, breaking the centre, generating power from the hips, biomechanics, etc but I agree that daito ryu aikijutsu from Sokaku Takeda is far more martial in its approach when one compares the two arts. I still have a major problem with the unrealistic attacks in both these martial arts though, as they originated in feudal Japan where many techniques were created in response to grabs i.e. preventing the samurai drawing their katana, etc. The problem most

  • Ueshiba sold everything he owned to study under Sokaku Takeda..for Ueshiba knew Sokaku's Daitoryu techniques were superior to his..from these waza he formed his own art aikido...Ueshiba was not match for Takedas daitoryu...matter of fact nobody was....so do not make ueshiba into the greatest if he learned from his teacher sokaku..what does that make Sokaku?..aikido people are clueless.

  • Amazing...it was the best aikido demostration Id ever seen

  • @sephyrath First of all an Aikidoka is referred to aikido instructor, I am not an instructor I am an aikidoist ( a student), and I wasn't trying to take shots at anybody I just don't want people to think of aikido as something its not, which is a religion or a weird cult, however you can think of it anyway you want to that's your choice, and the only one putting their school to shame is you, it looks like you missed the first principle of aikido; discipline, we can sit here and argue about some

  • este estilo de luta é a melhor em termos de defesa pessoal.

    Eu curto muito!!

  • Aikido is not a cult or a way of life, it's simply a martial art, I am an aikidoist, and it's an amazing form of self defense that's why I take it, for nothing else, everyone in my dojo thinks likewise, so it shocks me to see that so many people think it's a "way of life" I mean come on man, is your life that meaningless that you have to make an idol out of everything.

  • @RafStick90 First off, it would be Aikidoka(Aikido-ka). Second, Aikido in it's true form is not singularly a Martial Art. It is almost quite literally a form of religion, if you could call it that. Moreso a very diehard philosophy. Ueshiba said himself you cannot have one without the other or you will not be practicing true Aikido. I can understand how you can practice it's martial form but to open your mouth with ignorance and let us all know how little you know is shameful to your school.

  • @RafStick90 It IS a way of life. There's no idol by saying that. Aikido helps you find your inner self. It seems simple, but it's a profound and important question.

  • What a great video! Thank you!

  • can imagine how pain it is, i was locked once by an aikido practioner and it hurts a lot

  • Morihei was THE MAN. The greatest samurai in all of Japan, during that time, went to duel him. Morihei declined. The samurai didn't care and aimed to kill him anyways. After over 20 minutes of missing Morihei, the guy finally tired, dropped to his knees and said You are the Master. And asked Morihei if he would teach him. And so Morihei did and the guy became one of his students. He was the Real Deal. This video is just him practicing. Plain and simple.

  • i think this is one the best Aikido demonstrations ive seen.

  • Comment removed

  • Aikido is what people make it. It can be soft as silk or strong as steel ..... Or both. It's true there are many 'false idols' if you will in a martial arts sense but this guy is where it all came from. I have trained with a top student of saito and if you think it is fake then go seek some out. The guy I am referring to .... Voarino ..... I assure you first hand is phenomenally powerful

  • @3542741 just cause you cant do it dosent mean its fake.....

  • Aikido umí, ale na ulici se to použít nedá !

  • well done , a Legend is very less for him , he is more than a legend!

  • people like @theblacksashman makes me smile... because never will understand or feeling the movement of the universe

  • @cwkinser

It is invisible if you don't have your eyes open.

  • No word or words can describe what you see here. The man was in a class by himself and to this day still greatly admired with thousands of extreme grateful students of which Steven Segal is one.

I first learned of this magnificent man in 1969 and have been an ardent admirer since.

    Train

  • This is the most significant video I have ever seen.. We should know the principles of the I Kido even from school rather than basketball or football or who knows what else.. we are entering a precise era that do not allow flattering minds and you should not considered yourself smart if you do not in fact knows some I Kido techniques.. you will certainly need it from your subconsciousness out to the very simple act of tiding your NiKE sneakers or open a COCACOLA can.. I Kido is about being 06

  • I realized cultists will get upset about being called New Agers because they are ever so 'clever' people. As if getting the shiny certificates and big titles on the CV are a statement of advanced mind activity(lets be honest few New Agers are at the so called 'capstone' of anything. Well I got those things (shinier than most believe it or not), so I know it is this type of person that will get the biggest shock when (gasp) they could be wrong about a whole load of stuff. Avoid New Age MA.

  • Finally I will say, MMA people have been right about many things (the importance of aliveness), genuine IP people have been right about many things (how IS works) and I am also right about many things (Aikido as a cult, and even 'weirder' ideas) how long it takes for New Agers to realize ppl outside thier tiny box may have something to say, IDK.

  • I should point out that Mixed Martial Artists actually have more IS understanding and tend to intuitively 'get' the principles more than any hippy dippy. i.e some form of body awareness/in the moment presence of mind is essential for competing, Every Aiki man becomes a social philosopher apon signing up, yet I truly believe New Agers are some of the most blind people around.

  • Aikido seriously looks like Bagua to me. I wonder if its influenced by it.

  • Many martial artists want to have the 'full spectrum' as you say, which may move towards looking into 'no form' and 'form' together. Some people also want to preserve a sense of 'martial identity'. But new age martial arts is a small box to be in, a faux identity of dogma and strict order. Moreover, the whole notion that 'brand Aiki' owns IP or some secret knowledge or way is a trap of pridefulness that you see. Does Walmart own your organs?(not yet). A persons energy is thiers, people>systems.

  • @theblacksashman I laughed for awhile after reading what you wrote. I think it is extremely funny how stereotype Aikidoka. Also you carelessly group New Agers and Aikidoka together as though we are one and the same. Personally i am not a New Ager, nor is any other Aikidoka that I have met. Your points are incorrect, and though your broad, sweeping statements might be able to trick someone who doesn't know anything about MMA or Aikido, anyone who does know something would laugh as well.

  • As I have said, I believe IP to be 'horses for courses'. You can train just for health, for explosive power, for yielding, soft power, for better 'listening, all sorts of things. I will say, reductionism is perhaps a Western thinking style, accentuated in cults. If you have the insight 'I can do more with less raw strength and more mind' either rolling on the floor sparring, drilling semi compliant or standing like a tree, who cares. The bridge is peoples mind, intent and thoughts.

  • A legend... I can't express how amazed I am.

  • 'Hard IP' is also something I think is often overlooked, scoffed at or belived to be fantasy (too much reductionist thinking). Energy follows mind is a basic principle (may need 'access concentration' for deeper levels). Muay Thai shin conditioning w. mind/mindfulness, bag work w. mind/mindfulness would constitute 'hard IP, no need to don an orange costume. Sometimes I think new agers need to hear words like ki/energy to do anything. The physical body is 'energy' too. Why not to condition it?

  • @theblacksashman what is "IP" ?

  • @Kazmundio IP is something Aikido ppl like to talk about but don't practice. It is interaction of mind with the 'chi body'. Not that different from physical excersise, the result is based on the practice you do. If you want to be like Sting then you would practice 'jing' stuffs, not a very pc topic (actually it is, pc muscles that is). If you want to understand what Ueshiba was doing kou bu/bai bu, static and moving will show you. Or you can make the energy hard. Endless and horses for courses.

  • @theblacksashman That's the general sense I got from the context of usage, but what does it stand for. I guessed "intent projection", "internal presence", etc.

  • @theblacksashman Y'know, it's funny, being in the MMA community the argument is the opposite: I am trying to convince people of the benefits of incorporating semi-compliant unscripted drills and whatnot, but people just want to drill techniques and spar. It goes both ways, you've got to have a bridge, the whole rainbow, full spectrum.

  • @Kazmundio It stands for 'Internal Power. You are right about the argument being different in MMA and there is definitely a bridge. I have more sympathy for MMA for many reasons (i.e. crap IP will not help them, they fight, in spite of what people say MMA is more open minded than a martial cult etc). I am not even excessively dogmatic about sparring for people who really decide it is not for them. It could be catorgorised as a 'hard skill', i.e you will be tougher, more 'real', better reactions.

  • The best bridge from a largely compliant martial art to one which also incorperates aliveness would be drills and games. There is pretty much an endless amount of these (i.e flow drills of grappling styles, boxers can work on evasiveness rather than attack, even push hands type drills-yes Tai chi has competition). This is a realm to practice 'small blends' rather than big, obvious Aikido type 'blending'.

  • @theblacksashman Yeah, that's how we train over here, but it sure doesn't look as fancy as these types. At least it actually works on the mat, though.

  • يا الله ما هذه القوة

  • 'But our art is about 'something else' says the New Ager in a tenebrous, secretive way. Please clarify, are we talking the 'Great Origin' of Oomoto? Or something else which may be 'Great'? An example, 'what is the origin of language?' Sound and symbol perhaps (Mantra/Yantra of the ancients?). I say the 10,000 pound prize goes to the man who says good IP can be can be an important linguistic origin/building block to ANY martial art.

  • Yeah, so once I saw this Taiji symbol, Chinese stuffs, soft can contain hard and vice versa, balance, all that jive, while peering through a cloud of green smoke, in ma PJ's, on a retreat. But the 64 squares of the chequered chessboard always made more sense to me, black vs white. Never mind if some 'grandmaster' may be playing even the King/Shihan. At least I can stand in line, on my square, feel all peaceful, and be a pawn.

  • Who is the shadowy figure who pulls the strings of the world? Why the 'martial' artist, of course. Since day zero, with his/her barbarian mindset (s)he has caused every war and disaster since day zero. Who are the Yin Overmen to come and save the planet, a Zen Gestapo who WILL find the violent martial heart that beats within you, in thier effortlessly floaty PJ's of peace, who is this savior representing the Gods themselves? Team AIKIDO.

  • There is no evidence that adding competition/aliveness (and teh real IP) would turn you into some raging anti-moral barbarian, quite the opposite, increased strength, self awareness, self knowledge, reduced New Age neurosis/psychosis and (horror) some fun may be gained. Qualities which may be banned in pseudo Zen pacifistic martial arts.

  • most gentle of all non-violent martial arts! brilliant! may everyone embrace , the humillity of being attacked& reppelling w/out violence

  • las tecnicas vistas en este video estan muy bien no digo que no pero si os fijais solo se defiende de agarres no ay ni un solo ataque le hagan con un golpe, bueno es un simple comentario opinaos vosotros mismo

  • please excuse my occasional lapses of sp. (spelling) not 'in' my mother tongue much recently (excuses excuses)

  • Talking of 'Ki Aikido', this is more New Age nonsense. The closest thing to 'center' for people exploring IP might be the hara and the spine. Silly visualisations, 'magical thinking' such as shooting lazer beams out of your fingers is a dodgy way of expressing 'intent'. Go to the IP guys, people need proper 'structure' before sensing 'qi'. Visualisation is important at 'non ordinary reality' level, but focus on structure, stillness, the basics first.

  • It seems like his Ukes are just throwing themselves around.

  • @shinshoryuken Oh, shit, you noticed that, too?

Saludos.

  • I don't understand.

1:47 is a jump or what?

  • @jjjoestar not exactly. The uke simply feel a void when try to catch the nage´s shoulder. As if the floor disapears. So the training of avoiding falls making rolls and jumps incites this jump. But, even the best explanation do not pretend the feeling. So, I suggest that you find a dojo and... practice! :D

    Best wishes, Rodrigo

  • @jjjoestar

    it's a jump :)

  • People who want to engage in circular debate about whether Tomiki (which teaches 'aliveness' lite) and Shin Shin Toitsu (which teaches IP very lite) are free to do so. Personally, I do not see why a person cannot include both in thier training (in non-lite versions). Decent IP can definately helps your 'aliveness' game and vice versa. As for 'bhakti', traditionally (non New Age) this was performed with an awareness that the object of bhakti was a quality within you. Tony Robbins moment...off.
