'legit' means something which means real. say for example you have a ring or something which claims to be pure diamond. you would get it checked, if it is real diamond it is 'legit' or legitimate for the full version of the slang term, hope that helped.

But it means "to have been done legally" it actually comes from the word legal, which is the root word. It's weird.
