  • Can i put light bronze strings on a guitar like this?

  • so wait you put no slack on nylon strings when restringing?

  • @jeffjuan209 you can put a little slack if you want. The way Buster does it is good though - once you tune you will have the string wound several times at the top. Just follow exactly as he does it.

  • This is first time I have changed strings on my classical using Buster's method here. Wow what a difference this made...saved at least 20-25 minutes...and no strings slipping whatsoever. Thank you Buster B-RIP

  • my treble strings have scratches and one is "chipping away" and i put in a new d string and it is so much shinier than the E and A strings should i change them all? the strings haven't been touched in 5 or so years and yeah...so should i change them now?

  • One note. You should NOT remove all the strings as shown here, because it releases all the tension on the neck, which causes it to bend back, then forward again when pressure is reapplied...better to do it one by one....

  • usually on higher quality guitars you don't have to worry about it

  • Or I've heard you can do three strings at a time. I tend remove three, replace them, then remove the next three and replace them so the head is always under tension.

  • @mrpentium Although most classical guitarists only change one string at a time (meaning one per week or more) there is nothing wrong with removing all the strings. If the guitar is well built there should be no issue whatsoever. However, what you must never do is cut strings that are tightened to tension. Always unwind your strings before removing (or cutting) so that you gently release the tension from the neck.

    Hope that helps.

  • Pretty good advice. Thank you

  • Word. I loved how you cut the crap about restringing nylon guitars !

  • Superb! Who'da thunk it'd be so easy, eh?

  • I can't see how you're doing it. It's going too fast :P

  • ok ^^

  • Thank you man!

  • I brought my classical to the store to get re-strung, they did such a horrible job. There is about 12 windings where the string crosses over on itself, and I had to wait 2 hours for it to get strung. If I'd have seen this video first I'd have saved my self time and got a far better job done

  • I guess just always remind yourself that pretty much all information a normal person could ever need is on the internet now, in video and text form. 2009! lol

  • Thank You Buster. This is by far the best stringing instruction I have ever encountered. You are the man. Much love. Know that you are appreciated!!!

1 question: Does the bottom of the G string (#3 non-wound) go around and through the hole in the bridge twice? Or is that only for the high E and B strings?

  • this might very well be the most useful and comprehensible video on changing strings on a classical guitar i've ever come across, thanks for that. i'll be sure to recommend this video to all my students who keep struggling with restringing their guitar (no matter how often i explain to them how it's done, even... go figure...). much better than doing one myself, which i've actually been thinking about for some time. now i don't need to anymore, thanks to you. kudos!

  • Thank you!!!

  • Wow, I've never seen a guitar quite like that? So it doesn't have a sound hole? Or rather, they're not located under the strings?

  • GREAT VID!, very helpful! took me about 1 and a 1/2 hour trying to restring my nylon guitar before i found this vid, next time I will probably not be thinking about smashing the guitar against the wall when restringing. once again thanks

  • lmao im there right now. Ive been trying to restring my takemine for 1 and and a half hrs and im about ready to smash it :\

  • you'Ve got a takamine and you don't know how to restring it? omg...

  • incorrect. I know how to string it, I was just running into problems.

  • A Nylon string guitar is like plastic strings right?

  • hey can anybody give me tips for stringing a nylong string on my modern acoustic guitar i don't really have a classic guitar and i really want to have 1 but my mom says stick to what i have so i bought a nylon string i already stringed the EAGDB string all i need now is the e string the first string everytim i string it, it suddenly pops out i need help

  • If you're trying to put nylon strings on a regular acoustic you may want to buy nylon strings that already have a "ball" on the end. I'm not sure which companies make them but they do exist..

    Bresh

  • yeah lol

i already bought one and i tried to put it on my regular guitar with the bottom tied 2 time so it doesn't sleep. i don't but maybe nylon strings are shorter than a regular one

and yeah thnx for the tip

  • La Bella makes some with ball ends

  • I bought them from Coda Music (if you're in the UK today! That's why I need help putting them on!

  • @BreshDigitalTV

Or you could just tie a knot on that string just like I do...

  • Anyone that thinks he does not know whats going on...take a look at his Youtube channel page.He is one lucky man to have had the childhood and past he lived.

  • Thanks for the informative video. :)

  • Thanks, this will be useful when I get some new strings soon.

  • awesome!

  • Explain

  • it was meant for another comment, sorry for the confusion :(

  • then you are saved by the bell.

  • This methods does work and it will keep your guitar in tune. The bass string part of this methods also works for all six strings on your electric guitar. It acts just like a locking tuner. I know..I'm a pro blues guitarist and I bend a LOT and using this method keeps my guitar in tune as good as any method, and it does save a lot of cranking.

  • this is the hillbilly way. i doubt it will keep the guitar in tune. i wouldn't try this with Savarez strings. i have a better method. i cross thread all 6 strings at the saddle: L+L+L+L+L+L leave 1" so that each string locks onto the next.

  • The thing at the saddle.... It doesn't keep your guitar in tune, it just looks tidy.

Do you know how to attach acoustic/electric strings to the tuning post? You create a locking mechanism, and the locking mechanism you see in the video here is very similar to the one you use on acoustic and electric guitars.

This isn't the 'hillbilly' way, this is how real pro's do it!

  • dude thanks a million i trust your method the most out of anyone on youtube teaching this so thanks

  • Thank you, you saved me tons of time. Very helpful!!

  • Very much appreciate the video and advice ... great asset ... Thank you ...

    Don ...

  • Thank you, less detail than I would have liked (tieing off the ends?) But still very helpful.

  • Wow I wish I would have watched that two hours ago.

    Good and clear explanation.

  • im trying it this way, and it gets out of tune really fast :P what am i doing wrong?

  • haha that happens to me to but all you need to do is tighten both ends really hard.if you had already done so,this happens most of the time to new strings.i had the same problem when i have to tune it almost every few hours.

  • i get it

  • Hey Man..That Really Helped Me...You've Just Helped Me String My First String..Thanks Alot You Really Helped Me

  • That's one sexy looking classical guitar!

Thanks for the guide, nice and easy to follow, but I have one question.

I usually switch between tunings every now and then. Normally I play in standard tuning, but sometimes I play in Drop D and in Open G as well. Will your stringing method work fine with these tunings, or should I leave some more slack?

  • No.. Works fine.. BBJ

  • Great :) Thanks man, that really helps.

  • umm..i just bought guitar strings, and at the end of my thickest e string(first string), theres a gold circly thing...sorry i dont know the name of it...can i cut that off, because i can't get the end to go through the hole where the tuners are.

  • If you're serious, take up the fiddle.. BBJ

  • That's because you've probably bought accoustic strings instead of classical strings

  • I know this my be a dumn question, but can I cut off the excess?

  • Yes..

  • Yep.. Please do.. BBJ

  • thx alot,really.

  • Great vid, I actually restrung a classical guitar wrong with St. Augustine's...

  • Top Tip N01 for changing nylon strings.

  • Thank you so much, your explanation is clearly the best on the web!

    Stephan
