"Overseas broadcasts increased from just 35 per week to 175 foreign broadcasts in 40 languages during the Jordan era." That kind of broadcasting no longer exists.

There is also a lack of media exposure on part of the new stars. They all of course practice the Jordan model of exposure but that does nothing to expand the fanbase. One of the worst mistakes is the switch to cable. Remember a lot of people don't watch cable tv that often. Ex. "While the ratings on cable are down -- the 2003 NBA All-Star Game on TNT dropped 20% from the 2002 game on NBC -- the bigger loss may come from network promos."

forever. Jordan was always always better than the hype. A rare atheletic & aesthetic talent put into 6-6 frame. I think, the reason jordan was so good is b/c he redefined the way basketball was played, and many strived to play like that and he evolved the game to where it is now. He made others have to step up and he just got better b/c of that.

I wouldn't go that far. Michael Jordan is a better player than Ray Allen, but he sure as hell can't shoot better than Ray-Ray. That is a fact. I know MJ is the greatest, but he wasn't the "greatest" at every aspect, maybe as an all-around player, but he wasn't the lights out shooter Ray Allen is.

Ray Allen is a better spot-up shooter. If you count the ability to actually get your shot off, however, he isn't even on the same planet.
Ray Allen's best shooting year was 48%, MJ's CAREER shooting percentage, including his last years with Washington is 49.7%. Other people get shots for Ray Allen, MJ got himself shots, and created them for others.
If all you look at is whether you can hit shots, then Steve Kerr was a better player than Ray Allen.
