I think Immortal are a great bands for people to access the black metal genre. I mean they may not be as Black Metal as some kvlt bands. But, I mean their different. They produce some epic songs and riffs. I mean some Death metal fans are not keen on Black Metal, but if they listened to Immortal, it would convert them in my own honest opinion. Such a great band, original and fresh for a black metal band.

I'm a fan of Immortal, to Dissection, Burzum, Dark Funeral and Post Metal with a Black Metal influence like Alcest and Lantlos etc. I also like some Depressive Black metal like Shining. For me, Black Metal has to have this kind of emotion that I can't explain, and not just a raw production and screaching.

The point is that I really like their "newer" albums, because of the reasons you mentioned, but I also have to admitt that I started to like pure black metal like "Battles in the North".
