  • Do you record this from bass amp or this sound going right to audio interface?)

  • I have one sounds great with my guitar well worth it, do you know it is analog or digital?

  • Comment removed

  • Reminds me of Hysteria by Muse.

  • @beau96080 heard that tone and I thought the exact same thing xD

  • Sounds like old Grand Funk .

  • omg this pedal sounds awesome xD

  • @ZED305 All EHX pedals are metal

  • metal or plastic?

  • Comment removed

  • Nice demo mate lml

  • does this have a similar ssound to rage against the machine/audioslave?

  • That sounds awesome. I'm not a bass player, but that makes me want to play a bass!

  • do you know if flea use this alot from red hot chili peppers

  • @jofhearrghail I know that he used a NY Big Muff, but I'm pretty sure he didn't use a Bass Big Muff. He also used a Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive pedal.

  • @Cartoonkid111 sound (thanks) nice video

  • @jofhearrghail nope this is more like a cliff burton signature pedal flea uses a envelope filter (or a wah pedal )and a normal bass overdrive. he just boosts his amp signal ona tube amp

  • Can I get a good John Entwistle sound from this pedal?

  • would flea from red hot chili peppers use this alot

  • can you please tell me what all the 60s garage bass players used to get that raunchy fuzz sound????? what pedal?????

  • @Toxiejunkie Most of them were just overdriving their tube amps.

  • @Toxiejunkie Most of them were just overdriving their tube amps.

  • @bryanrtyler

    what amp would u suggest????

  • @Toxiejunkie I know the The Kinks members used to cut the membrane of the amp so it would sound more, well cool... They didn´t have pedals at the time... xD or at least not much choise in it if they even did exist...

  • @Toxiejunkie you can use de EHX bass blogger, tone down, drive max. you get a vintage overdrive sound.

  • @Toxiejunkie bryanrtylers is right.. in my band i have 2 use a little modelation amp, sure can play loud, but can't really keep up with it self, someday it's gonna burn out - but for now it sure sounds great. Just crank all the levels up and buy a mountain if your neighbours don't like the sound of it..

U still can't get a pedal that would sound like it, or thats my feel to it..

  • This would be awesome for stoner metal run through a slightly dirty bass amp like a Sunn O))) Model T with a Les Paul.

  • hey, can i get a sound out of this like like the boss hyper fuzz peadal?

  • @ashmetalthebest No idea.

  • The name of this should have been 'The Cliff's One'.

  • @Entomophobic This is not the one Cliff used. This pedal wasn't even around when Cliff was alive.

Cliff used these two different pedals Morley Power Wah fuzz with a big muff pedal and Electro Harmonix Big Muff

  • @SatanicalEve Yeah, I know. I ment, the name should have been in his honor.

  • esxuse me if I plug in the pedal , can I modify my sound from my amplifier/head ?

  • @Raz0r65 no, you must physically turn the knob on the pedal to adjust the effect of the pedal.

  • note i said effect not the pedal itself

  • @iwh13 So then you could post that comment on any fuzz pedal video... which I don't think you would do.

  • @minusjason Exactly :)

  • ahhhhhhhhh that effect that cliff burton used :)

  • @iwh13 Not unless he got into a time machine to buy one in the future and then brought it back. The Bass Big Muff is not the same pedal as a Big Muff. He never used this one.

  • @bryanrtyler he said effect not pedal and it gives off a very similar effect

  • Comment removed

  • @iwh13 yeah what the guy said, he never used this one

  • @iwh13 dumbest

  • can i use this on a normal guitar instead of bass?

  • @TheSilentAstronaut Of course- you can use any pedal on either guitar or bass. The only difference is that not every pedal will sound good on both. But you won't damage a pedal by running a different instrument into it.

  • @TheSilentAstronaut bass pedals sound great for six string guitar, They operate within the same frequencies but bass pedals have a a wider EQ range on them biased towards the lower frequencies (guitar pedals used on bass tend to cut off a fair slice of lows)

  • @TheSilentAstronaut You can, but The big Muff pi too is for guitar.

  • The Electro Harmonix Bass Big Muff 25% Off NOW!!!

    go to w w w . cheapbuy-online . c o m / electro-harmonix-bass-big-muff

    quickly!!!

  • if you use this pedal along with the sansamp bass driver DI the tone sounds 10000x better check out my muse covers and youll hear the difference

  • Sound demo starts at around 1:48 fyi.

  • I would like one of these for some really heavy bass parts, but I don't know whether this or the boss odb would work best with mine. I have a 6 string bass with active soapbar pickups.

  • @MrMetallicious

Depends on what sort of distortion do you want? Do you want a Fuzzy distortion? Bass Big Muff. Want something with a little less fuzz? the odb.

  • I don't know what you are playing through, but it sounds god awful and not doing this pedal enough justice.

  • good demo!

  • I dont know if its just be but, i just got one today and i dont think this pedal (yet every other overdrive/distortion pedal) likes active basses.

  • @BoseBassist Actually, fuzzes have traditionally had an issue with active basses. I'm using an active bass in this demo though.

  • nice comprehensive demo. thanks for taking the time to post this it was very helpful in my decision to buy one

  • does this pedal make like white noise with distorted guitar?

  • @mrfreakorico Buy the metal muff. not this.

  • Bass Big Muff + sansamp bass driver= jizztastic tone even more Muselike than just the big muff itself

  • Great video that shows the versatility of the pedal.Think I might road test one this weekend.

  • @gogs73 Bought 1 today,it's fucking brilliant.

  • heee muff might get one though

  • thanks for this vid, this is a must buy for me 'cos i like to play metallica and other trash metal alot

  • I run this driven by a 90s Marshall Shredmaster guitar pedal. Holds the low end very well!

    Sweetest tone ever!

  • @LWhitebass Please post sound clips

  • What I want is a pedal with plenty of drive options

plus a controlled amount of distortion.

I haven't tried Big Muff yet.

I think a combination of drive and distortion is important.

Fuzz by itself often gets a bit boring after the initial thrill.

    Any ideas? Anyone...

  • really nice vid, i've just bought one myself and i love those little riffs that you play in between and i was wondering, if they were covers, could you let me know the names of them? :)

  • @BozChord Thanks for the comment- all the things I play in this and pretty much every other video are just original things I make up on the spot. I never take the time to learn other people's songs (which is actually a really bad thing), so there's very little music by others that I know unless it's easy to pick up by ear alone.

  • Mine isn't working. No sound is coming out

  • this definitely sounds like it can give you close to the bass sound muse has based on some other vids of it being used here on youtube..so i want one lol..i wanna play hysteria with this sound ;p

  • Do you think you can get the muse fuzz sound with this pedal?

  • @NicolasLTY I'm not really sure- you can probably get close if you turn the tone and sustain way up

  • @bryanrtyler okay thanks man :) i got it and it does sound like muse. i also found out that the muse bassist has 4 of these on his pedalboard.

  • Do you think you can get the muse fuzz sound with this pedal? =)

  • I like this song

  • killer chops man

  • this is the distortion pedal of cliff burton!

  • @CamoteMaster No, it's not- the Bass Big Muff didn't come out until over 20 years after he died.

  • @bryanrtyler D:

  • @bryanrtyler Where as you are correct about cliff not being alive when this came out he did have a Big Muff Pi in his Rig but it was modified to take the power of the bass because it is a guitar pedal. my bassist in my band wanted his sound to be like cliffs so he got a regular big muff and it blew up because of the power being too much and got one of these that he still uses now... so its safe to say if cliff was alive im sure he would invest in one of these bad boys..

  • @hitthelights13 A bass puts no more "power" into a pedal than a guitar does, whether the pedal is designed for guitar or bass. It will not "blow up" in any fashion by plugging a bass into it. If your bassist told you that, he has no idea what he is talking about. At worst, a pedal not designed for bass will just sound bad and not have much low end coming through.

  • @CamoteMaster Cliff used normal Big Muff Pi

  • i almost had this :(( ALMOST

  • Whats your personal opinion on how this pedal compares to the mxr Blowtorch(if you've plaved it)?

  • @mehtevas373 I have a two-part Blowtorch review here on YouTube actually. They're really different. The BBM is better for any all-around fuzz purposes. The Blowtorch has that very biting but gated-sounding buzzsaw fuzz that is less useful in a general sense, but has a great character that stands out- that's probably my favorite fuzz.

  • What is the better one?

MXR el grande bass fuzz or Electro Harmonix Bass Big Muff Pi ??

  • @RHCP1231 They each have a different sound. The "better" one is the one you like the sound of more. I think they both sound good.

  • how do u get it to sound good on a ampeg stv head with 1/15 cab and a 4 10 cab? cause if u put it to loud it sounds like shit

  • @bassdinucci I don't personally have that rig. But with almost any rig, if you don't set the gain/volume on the amp high enough to start with, putting a really hot signal into it (from a pedal for example) will make it distort.

  • @bryanrtyler ya true but for some reason it sounds like crap when its to loud and like all guitar players the one in my band is loud as hell and cant turn down

  • @bassdinucci It may also be the amp. Do you know when and where your ampeg was made?

  • @Theshiggityshwa it was made here in U.S and its refurbished model

  • im a noob. i was wondering if anybody could tell me how to set this thing up.i have a behringer ultrabass bx1800 and a squier j bass. what do i do to get this thing working

  • when u said u turned up the volume or "the gain" did the volume of the gain increase? couldnt tell from the video. the problem ive had with pedals is turning up the volume or level and the volume increases not just the effect. i want the effect to increase not just the volume so that way when i turn the pedal off, the sound level is equal

  • when you turn up the volume, u said it turns up the gain, but did it turn up the volume as well? couldnt tell exactly. ive found that being a problem with some pedals, itll make the sound as well as the effect louder which i dont want. just want the drive to increase not necesarrely the volume as it itll be louder than my normal volume with the pedal turned off. looking to buy one of these thats why i ask

  • Is this pedal ran by the leads generating its power or by battery?

  • @ZombieSlayer93 I was using an isolated power supply- I generally don't run anything off of batteries.

  • @bryanrtyler

At the minute I think mine is running off of batteries, can I change that?

  • @ZombieSlayer93 Sure- just plug a 9v DC center negative power supply into it. You can keep the batteries in and they won't be drained as long as an adapter's cable is plugged into the power jack.

  • @bryanrtyler Ok, thanks

  • Call me dated but I think all this distortion boost pedals sound awful, a waste of money.

  • @bluewine1 dated

  • Wooooow Amazing pedal!!!!

  • what's wrong with you english/american english people? why pronouncing Pi like that? Ancient Greek would pronounce it like P.

  • @CyRON90 Because it's the Bass Big Muff Pi.

  • i am wondering that how come my pedal will automatically turn on without me press the pedal,is it anything wrong with my pedal?

  • im thinking about buying a pedal for my bass but i dont know whether to buy this or a Behringer BOD400

  • totally shopped, this is a box.. not a bass. wheres the pussy?

    SWEAAAAAAAACH!!

  • could you use this with a guitar ?XD

  • @H3lloSE they make one designed for guitar some bass players do use the original big muff with bass with the bass pedal your providing more low end

  • What inputs does this pedal have?one for the power supply

one for the output and one for the input?i can read something with "Dry out"

    can you explain further?

  • @aleksandros14 A "dry out" just outputs your sound without the effect added to it. It can split your output signal to have one clean side and one affected side.

  • i have one of these, its a damn good pedal for the price. i use it all the time.

  • I think I see a loop pedal on your board.

  • cost

  • @TheShimshon Search. Better yet, listen to the second part of the video where I say the cost ;)

  • @TheShimshon

    88€ at thomann.

  • Hy there!!! I'm playing an 8 strings with a Line 6 DM4 and I wondering if the Bass Big Muff could be better, couse is made for use with a bass and the Bass Big Muff have a switch with Bass boost. I love my Line 6 sound, but I never play electroHarmonix . The Bass Big Muff is shorter than Dm4 and that I like it very much. Wich one dou you choose between Line6 DM4 and Bass Big Muff Pi???

  • @danielmistralbassist I haven't used the DM-4, so I can't give a good answer. They are different beasts though- the BBM is an analog fuzz designed for bass, and the DM-4 is a digital distortion multieffect not designed with bass in mind. I imagine they sound pretty different.

  • I just connected this thingy to my stage piano and it sounds like crap.. :P I think it works better on my bass. (Y)

  • @lucjeuken Well, to be fair, it's not called the Piano Big Muff :D

  • @lucjeuken Because it is made for the bass. NOT THE PIANO.

  • i now own this pedal (:

  • I'm looking for the exact tone of NAUSEA's 'CYBERGOD' song,

    that vintage grunge/crustpunk bassy tone.

    What pedal should I try?

    Thanks!!!

  • I'm relatively new to the bass, but I've been playing guitar for a little over a year now, so I have some experience. I want to get a bass distortion pedal that has the closest sound to either Cliff Burton or Rob Trujillo. I was looking at the ODB-3 by BOSS and I really liked that sound, but then I came across the Big Muff. Which one would you recommend getting?

  • @AppleSauceInvasion Both are readily available at most guitar stores- try them both out if you can. Both can get close to that old "for whom the bell tolls" sound. I greatly prefer the Bass Big Muff, but my preferences may be different from yours.

  • @AppleSauceInvasion

they just sound different. I have the boss, and i now think of getting a muff, not because I don't like the boss sound, but because it's different. the great thing about the boss is that you have a 2 band eq and that you can mix the dry signal with the overdriven one. just try both of them out and then decide. if one of them gives you gooseumbs you know which one to get. and it might not be the last pedal anyway ;-) sooner or later you'll buy more pedals ;-)

  • @CptChaos88 Okay, thanks for the advice. I'll go to Guitar Center and try them out over the weekend.

  • @AppleSauceInvasion Cliff used a Sovtek Big Muff, so I'd go for one of those or the Bass Big Muff demoed here, which sounds very similar to the black Soviet Big Muff, preferedd by bass players for its fuller lows.

  • @nomidubidabi Thanks for letting me know about these models. I will look into each of them and hopefully buy one or the other.

  • @AppleSauceInvasion As bryantyler says, try both of them.... but if you are lookin for the sound Rob uses, it's Dunlop MXR Bass DI, than the Hiwatt amps, than a Fernandes Gravity bass and than, the fingers.... ou, i got it the other way around :-D

  • actually (add on to my other comment) is stomp box just the origanol term for effects pedal? (stomp box - a box that you interact with via your foot?)

  • @sexpistol1979 A stomp box is just another name for an effect pedal.

  • i'm a bit of a novice - little confused, a stomp box pedal is completely differnt from a big muff pedal? (assuming big muff is the name of this type of pedal, and not partly the brand name)?

  • burton use this effect?????????

  • @emiliowildhorses Cliff Burton died more than 20 years before this effect came out.

  • @bryanrtyler but he used a bass big muff in anesthesia?

  • @emiliowildhorses No, he didn't. The Bass Big Muff didn't exist then. He used a regular EHX Big Muff and a Morley Power Wah Boost.

  • So is this thing stage worthy or should you just get it to practice with in your bedroom?

  • @ProphecisedHero Of course it's meant to be used on stage :D

  • big muff or boss ODB-3 best effects?

  • @tonyelmatadore There's no such thing as "best"- just what you prefer. I greatly prefer the Bass Big Muff, but what you prefer may be different.

  • hum but what are the major differences between these two pedals?

  • @piepmaxx The ODB-3 is more of a noisy, fuzzed-out overdrive. The BBM is more of a distinct fuzz, and is generally tighter in sound (although you can make it pretty gnarly).

  • thanks man!!

  • gonna use this for some electro rock :D

  • is this good for any cliff burton stuff(For whom the Bell tolls, Anesthesia, etc.)?

  • You could probably do the FWTBT intro sound just fine with it. Haven't listened to Anesthesia since I was a teen, so I don't remember how it sounds :D

  • @bryanrtyler Thanks a lot.Looks really good.I might get it.

  • it is :D

  • Fuzz just doesn't sound as good as a solid OD does. Just eats up too much tone and note separation. YMMV. Might work for some players though. Personally thought his clean tone - before he turned this thing on - was the best!

  • im having a problem with mine. the distortion isnt every good it sounds like i dont even have it on half. can you help me atall?

  • I'd check the normal things first- change the battery and use a different set of cables to and from it. It the problem persists, it's probably the pedal. EHX has an inexpensive repair fee if the issue is the pedal and it's past warranty.

  • love it, thanks for this nice demonstration of the BASS big muff ;)

  • very nice.I got mine today and im very pleased with the quality of it

what was that you were playing at 6:29? sounds familiar

  • Wasn't playing anything that I know of, although I don't doubt that there's something out there that sounds like it. I almost never practice anyone else's songs (bad habit), so I don't know how to play almost any other people's stuff on purpose.

  • nice playing.

    i love that six stringer

  • so lets say i'd like to get the lowest end possible on a GUITAR... would you recommend using this pedal for that ?

  • It does a very good job of retaining the low end when using the dry mode. I can't comment on how it works with guitar as I don't play/own one.

  • It is the dogs bollocks for that, it sounds absolutely insane. Some days I prefer it to the original guitar; go for it.

  • Thank you for this video. I know to go pick this sucka up tomorrow.

  • sorry, what pedal is best for whom the bell tolls

  • Most Muff derivatives would be fine for that sound.

  • Comment removed

  • only good with passive bass

  • That's not even remotely true.

  • you forgot to turn sustain and amp to 10 and put bass in front of speaker

  • Less of an "I forgot"- more of an "I don't like my ears to bleed" :D
