Well played. Very relaxed. I did a version. You might find the chords I used interesting to hear. I did rush the song though. We have a similar husky vocal tone. Nice!
I love this song, and I`ve looked at many covers of it on you tube. This is without a doubt the best cover I`ve heard Excellent job. I keep going back to this version of yours when I want to hear it. Any chance you can break it down so I can play it? I`ve been playing for seven months and want to learn it. Thanks and keep up the good work.
I've just watched that and had sooo many idea's, I've had a riff in my pocket for age's and it's kinda similar to this one......sooo, if I follow it with am C and G, that work's, thank's for that, I've nevr heard the song but Il liked your version.
Eddie, that was awesome! Best cover I've ever heard of one of my favorite songs! You captured his vibe with the guitar playing and your gutsy voice. Why did you cut your face off the video? You've got nothing to be shy about. I would love to play it half as good as you!
Great job! I was in the Navy and my friend and I were at King's Cross wearing our uniforms ... he was borrowing the street peoples guitars and we did this song together ... him singing and playing me just singing. He brought lots of money into their guitar cases for them and then we would go to the next guy. He happened to play this song just like you.
great cover i been practicing this for 2 hours your close up helped on chord changes ,i been tweeking on my vocal
reverb& delay yours sounds right although proberly in a small room it dont let it breath . im in to small of room for practice. maybe this summer work my way to the porch. ha ha .mitchiel
Wow...you did an amazing job on this song. Love your guitar playing, and your voice. This is indeed the closest to the original recording that BC did in 74...and thats including what BC has on youtube now.
One of these days I will get up the courage to do what you do.. so far, my family and friends are my audience. A funny note, not alot of people I come in to contact with has heard this song, they automatically think I wrote it, lol,, Nope I wish.
Nice Work! I love this song. I remember when I first heard it trailing off the end of their first album, and wondering why I never really heard it much after that. I guess it's all good, sorta keeps the song's sanctity intact, uncorrupted by over-play on the corporate-run radio stations of the day.
The song for me is about a deep sense of freedom... The sea gull represents some sorrow for something lost or taken away which leaves an emptyness & pain inside. So that emotion is let it out to fly gracefully in their eyes, until it dies... Still Free.
Ok. I haven't ate any lunch yet so maybe I didn't make any sense.
I know the song...but I haven't tried to play it..let alone sing it..lol !!..Isn't that Stevie Winwood ?..super HIGH vocals on that one i think...Great song no doubt !!!
Nice work! I have been playing (guitar) for 25 years and I love Bad Co. You did a nice job of playing and a superb job signing - I could tell this song was special to you by the feeling in your voice. I enjoyed the video - keep it up.
Great cover! Eddie I was looking for a cover of this song this morning and no surprise ... here's you doing an sweet rendition! really nice. I have this Seagull 12-string and I was thinking 'that Bad Company song would be so fitting to play on this guitar'. This cover rocks! Gonna find a sunny afternoon and take my Seagull to the beach to play this song with the gulls. Thanks for posting this and showing me the right hammer-ons and strums dude!
You cover a song, you play it at whatever tempo you want. Why play it like the original? Even the original bands change the tempo of their songs during different performances. I think this version is perfect for a guy and his guitar. If he had a band with him, then they might want to speed up a little.
I agree but wanted to toss in that some songs work live when played up tempo, but a lot of bands in the 70s and 80s seemed to think if we just play it fast it will work live. Journey was netorious for trying to take a song like Wheel in the Sky and playing it at about the same tempo as Bob Seger's Get out of Denver. Balads are slow by design and should stay that way in my book.
Wish I could - can't sing unfortunately. I envy people like yourself that can play and sing well. Tried it many times, but believe me, I suck at it ;-)
I'll stick to the strings and leave the vocals to those who can.
Man you should have my handicap. I am a lot younger than you 49 1/2 and have been collecting six strings for five or six years but just started learning to play. My playing sounds like shit(think I need new stirngs lol) but I have to play loud so my singing sounds better. After I bought a 200 watt amp I heard there was a petetion going around the neighborhood to have me killed after they heard my power cord version of Twinkle Twinkle So I envy both of you for actually having talent
hey great playing on a great song;-) i know this starts in D chord and just does a little dsus4 and another dsus chord most of the way through.paul rogers wrote this while sitting on redcar beach.a coastal town in the north east where he came from and i live.;-)keep em coming;-) lee
this is my personal fav and you do it very good.. i've just started playing and would love to learn this better.. it looks like C, G and 1 other chord you are playing? many thanks
Most excellent...very few have done this song as well as you...except for Bad Company that is....thanks for sharing...I am keeping you on my favorites. Peace!
Paul Rodgers said on 2001 "Every song that we have done has it's own story. Seagull was written sitting on the beach. Music is about atmosphere. The best way to create the atmosphere is to actually be there. You don't have to imagine it. It is right there. With Seagull, you could see the horizon." I think you do get the song completely listening to your version..nicely done
for a theory about the song and its meaning, maybe it was inspired by the book Johnathan Livingston Seagull? Great short read. Or, maybe it's just about how humans would appear to be so hostile with the world to a seagull.
