Great job! I was in the Navy and my friend and I were at King's Cross wearing our uniforms ... he was borrowing the street peoples guitars and we did this song together ... him singing and playing me just singing. He brought lots of money into their guitar cases for them and then we would go to the next guy. He happened to play this song just like you.

Nice Work! I love this song. I remember when I first heard it trailing off the end of their first album, and wondering why I never really heard it much after that. The song for me is about a deep sense of freedom...  The sea gull represents some sorrow for something lost or taken away which leaves an emptyness & pain inside. So that emotion is let it out to fly gracefully in their eyes, until it dies... Still Free.

You cover a song, you play it at whatever tempo you want. Why play it like the original? Even the original bands change the tempo of their songs during different performances. I think this version is perfect for a guy and his guitar. If he had a band with him, then they might want to speed up a little.

I agree but wanted to toss in that some songs work live when played up tempo, but a lot of bands in the 70s and 80s seemed to think if we just play it fast it will work live. Journey was netorious for trying to take a song like Wheel in the Sky and playing it at about the same tempo as Bob Seger's Get out of Denver. Balads are slow by design and should stay that way in my book.
