Wow!! What a performance! I'm a long time fan of Ricky and Patty... I've never seen Patty look more beautiful than she did on stage this night. And, it's among my favorite performances... She's definitely at her very best here! Amazing... words just can't compliment that performance enough.
Not usually my style of music, but I love this song. Thank you for posting this. What a beautiful song with a simple and important message for us all.
Patty Loveless IS the gold standard by which every female songer in the world should be judged. A true benchmark, no one, not a single female alive comes close!

this is making a country show of a great stanley brothers song. nothing to do with the original.its one more sad example of the loss of spirit in modern music. nice expensive instruments but no soul.
Watching this makes me miss that old show Austin City Limits. I don't know why but it just does. I wish there were old shows and specials like this still around.
This show was about 3 years ago on Public Service TV. The DVD on Amazon is worth over a hundred dollars. I fortunately bought the CD. The Bruce Hornsby song is absolutely phenomenal!! It is so awesome to see musicians who are so talented. This is something that our society needs to hold on to. When we lose these musicians to rap and techno music.... ugh!
This show was about 3 years ago on Public Service TV. The DVD on Amazon is worth over a hundred dollars. I fortunately bought the CD. The Bruce Hornesby song is absolutely phenomenal!!
Have allways liked Ricky Scaggs And patty Loveless but put both of them to gather on this song and its Bluegrass Heaven on earth. You cant get any better than these two paired togather.
Patty Loveless, Ricky Skaggs and Vince Gill are the core of todays traditional country or better still bluegrass artists.....they never fail to blow me away !!!!!
Well, Gary, I don't think Ricky is trying to imitate Ralph Stanley. I too am a huge fan of Ralph Stanley. I wasn't aware that Ralph Stanley was a 'Mandolin' player.
I love the duet of Ralph Stanley and Patty Loveless, 'Pretty Polly'. But it doesn't compare to this video.
Powerful, Powerful song in the classic Bluegrass style. Performed by two Grammy Award artists. Patty loveless is one of America's treasures and has always been on 'top-shelf'. I love this woman. Ricky Skaggs is in a league of his own. Not to be outdone by anyone. He has always been one of Bluegrass music's best ambassodors.
As far as Christian music goes, I am generally inclined to the opinion that not much produced since the 9th cent. is worth anything. That being said, most Gospel Bluegrass type music like this goes into my exception to the rule column. By the way, if you want to hear about the most magnificent Christian hymn do a search on here for "Christos Aneste" or "Christos Voskrese."
In regards to SweetCandygirl-----like a lot of people--she is probably not aware of the true origns of music such as this----it comes from the Applaachian regions of our country and is very much a part of the history of our nation and music. That she does not like it-- is a matter of taste--thankfully-there are plenty of young people who are playing music in the traditional styles--peforming and recording old songs such as this and creating new songs of their own--keeping this music alive.
For those who did not know---Patty Lovelace has now recorded two albums with songs that are more traditional/bluegrass---Mountain Soul Volumes I and II-----this song appeared on Volume I---this segment--along with Patty singing an awesome verson of "Pretty Polly" with Dr, Ralph Stanley that can be found elsewhere on YouTube--were recorded as I recall, at the original Ryman Auditorium in Nashville for a program recorded for PBS Television.
At least sweetcandygirl liked this song. Give her credit for that even tho she was a foul=mouthed young girl. There is hope! come back sweetcandygirl. Just please be polite. lol,
I didn't know Patty did Bluegrass. This combo is hard to beat! Who's the fiddler? Is she Rickey's wife, Sharon? Patty and I have something in common....we are both ham radio operators. She used to be KD4WUJ (I'm KB5BO) KC5E was my old call as well as K5HY.
@KC5E The one holding the fiddle and singing is Carmella Ramsey and she is not married to Ricky. The one playing fiddle is Deanie Richardson and she is not married to Ricky either! I would marry either of them. Both are very talented!
Since you're the only one using the F word and the only one talking about f'in a horse, we can only surmise you have experience regarding such.
