Hey Techware Lab guys, since this video is 2 years old is there an updated version of this product? Im trying to build a case that requires small components and this seems to fit the bill for what i need it for. A liitle bit of gaming (nothing to crazy since it handles CoD4) and mostly media. The box is nice since i don't want a screen attached to it. Thank for your time.
@jkial500 I would look into an ION2 platform with a Atom 1.8. Jetway, Zotec, Giada are good in that department. For the case I recommend Chenboro mITX chassis some of them have hot swappable drive trays which are always nice. I would not recommend running cod on the PC though 1080p and you should be fine
I love Intel Atom processors and the Ion GPU as they're both incredibly impressive pieces of technology in general. I plan on just using Ion/Atom based hardware in the long-term future because of the low power consumption and their surprising power for such small components.
Sure, you won't be able to run Crysis on ultra settings but who cares? If you wanted to play Crysis you could on an Ion/Atom platform. ;) Just not anything above 20 FPS on low settings.
wait is the demo machine running on a quad core cpu? if you look at the powerdvd video playback test you can see it has 4 boxes = 4 cores, if I am not mistaking
@putzamoale99 A quad core athlon will handle 4 threads however the architecture is different with Amd chips and they don't rely on hyperthreading like Intel. A dual core atom is very underpowered compared to just one of your cores but for general use its not bad at all. Most of the heavy lifting on an ion system is done by the GPU. Its real benefit is its very low power draw.
i definitely really enjoy the game. i play the game every night along with my pal and we always win. we are pretty good but that's due to the fact we purchased a brand new gaming mouse with all the money we saved as a result of getting the complete game out of mw2forfreeUinfo (replace U with .) rather than buying it
what is everyones perfect gun? i adore a rpg personally. it's easy to be able to rip up everybody by using it! my roommate calls me the noob for using it but who cares. i am somewhat different maybe! but at least i didnt need to pay for the game. i down loaded it for nothing at mw2forfreeYinfo (replace Y with . ) a few days ago
I have an HP mini 311-1037nr its got a single core 2 thread Intel Atom N270, 2 GB Ram & the nVidia Ion, and I have to say, its better than most netbooks on video, but I have to get a dual core atom... this 1.6 GHz Atom SUCKS... but I can play 1080p... the CPU runs near 100% tho lol but the nVidia Ion is fucking AWESOME.
@LankanDude94 indeed, intel's really greedy by forcing 90% of laptop users to use their own graphic. Intel Atom processor with nvidia ION has faster graphics than a system Intel core i5 and intel HD. Thinking about it, Netbook vs Mainstream/upper end processor! (This is according to 3D mark) Intel graphic = waste of a good PC!, since you have a desktop you can upgrade =)
Fck spending $60 for CODMW2. Me and my buddies downloaded the steam working version with the brand new Map-Pack from codmw2freedlYcom (replace Y with . ) yesterday, and it works beautifully. I'm already at lvl 17 and cannot wait to unlock the ACR with Silencer!
guys u need to get this in your head that this is an ATOM processor. it isn't supposed to play your cod 5 maxed out with 10000 frames. it is a small computer which is only supposed to be a media PC. so stop complaining.
@lighangel yes. there are some videos of someone using his Nvidia ion board with the atom 330 (dual core 1.6ghz) Oc'ed to 2ghz-2.15ghz. and 2 gigs of ram playing things like bioshock 2.
fraps doesn't take any frames out of the game only when recording and he is inside the ship not outside so the frames for fighting outdoors would prob be around 5 to 15fps
Im thinking about building a multimeda-pc on myself. The Atom CPU and nVidia GPU would be perfect for my plans. But has the Ion-Unit any PCI slots or any other posibility to Conect a tv-card with it? If anyone know how it could work -> please post back
This looks awesome. The point isn't to play games on a netbook. It's showing that It CAN. For a netbook, you would mostly use it for HD movies and web browsing. But for an acutal PC as the one shown (how small it is) you just hook up a monitor and play games there. it's meant to be a replacement for your current bulky home pc or a convienient travel netbook.
what is the point of playing graphic intensive games on a netbook? netbooks have tiny screens so no matter how mush quality u get u have to squint and concentrate so hard to aplay a game.
You've never played a PSP game? Even on PSP's screen you can see plenty of polygons and notice a lack of particle effects and occasionally low resolution textures.
Don't even get me started on the DS.
A netbook that can play modern PC games is just awesome, especially for games where it would be nice to open it up and play whenever, like if you're currently working through a file in Oblivion or Dragon Age on a plane trip or at lunch or something.
Acer has the AspireRevo now. It's pretty nice, although last I checked they're loading it with XP and 1GB of RAM (which you have to share with the GPU).
It'd probably be great with Windows 7, 2 GB of RAM, and overclocked a bit. :V
Well, I worry because NVidia does not use to make things open source for linux. They tend to keep things proprietary and with copyrights, and this complicates the life when using debian. And no, I don't want to change to Ubuntu.
Nvidia driver for whatever OS you use are backwards and forward compatable. If you are running Linux Mint for example with 190+ drivers you should have no problem.
A flexible transparent touchscreen monitor (in the making), a small (lexar small) size computer that is mostly a power-button that is connected to a wireless mobile network, and that can collapse to fit in the space of a small pen in your shirt pocket next to your other pens and paper.
are the dual core atoms with Ion available for any Netbook currently?, there is a major performance difference between single and dual core, its a serious bottle neck for the Geforce 9400,. Iv only seen Lenovo s-12 but thats a single core.
Im sure it will be able to run crysis. Not in ultra high, but it'll run. Why dont you try run the most gpu-intensive game on something smaller than a box of milk?
i think it is going to give about 4-10fps maximum but this thing is the smallest pc i have ever seen...don't forget that you need at least 20times bigger pc to play crysis with dignity :P...a good GPU for crysis is 5 times bigger than ion :P
hey plz help me i bought a zotac ionitx-a and i tried to install xp on a new hdd using a scratched xp disc. then i reinstalled it using another cd, and
now even the defrag cant solve this ind the comp is incredibly slow at everything!!!
i've seen countersrike:source running with steady 50fps @ 1024x768, now i, even @ 800x 600 with 8 bots i have around 20fps!!!
plz help me my config is zotac ionitx-a, 32bit xp, 4gb ram(512gpu) , wd blue 500gb and nothing else!!!
there's a pc (or nettop) that's been released recently that is virtually identical to this called the ASRock Ion 330 (aka ASRock Ionstar). It's got the nvidia ion platform and a dual core atom 330 processor (overclockable to 2.1 ghz via the BIOS). It has received VERY good reviews and is available at around £230 in the UK (so around $450-$550 in the USA i'd guess.) It WONT be capable of replacing a high spec gaming PC, but should run most games from early 2008 backwards on high settings :).
I now have the ASRock ion 330. Yes it should run sims 3 pretty easily on low or mid settings, although it does depend on whether or not you overclock the processors and what operating system you're using :)
Hotdamn. I'm not a complete and utter newbie to computer modding ( i know the basics aka. how to switch out RAM and graphics cards properly etc), but would it be possible to switch out the atom processor for something more heavyweight, or does it depend on the atom due to the way it's built?
(continuing...) obviously you can't do anything about the graphics chipset either, as it's onboard. however, the n330 (the processor) is apparently very stable to overclock- although i'm paranoid about this :D if you google search 'asrock ion 330 review' or something similar, you will see that many can easily and safely overclock to 2.1 ghz- which is more than enough considering it's a dual core cpu. if you have any more other questions, message me instead of replying to this comment/topic! :)
Unfortunately not no- the cpu is soldered on to the motherboard. there are no other ready made pc's (afaik) that have BOTH the N330 and nvidia ion though. The alternative (to build your own pc with a intel atom processor and nvidia ion chipset motherboard) would also not be possible, as, as far as i know, the only motherboard available has the atom processor soldered on. In short, i don't *think* that atom processors (whatever socket they use) can be upgraded on any atom pcs atm.
It is an embedded M-ITX board. You can try the 9300 D-ITX from Zotac. You could put any S775 processor on it. I would recommend the Q8200 which is as fast as the q6600 on 2.4 Ghz.... it also has an pci-e thingy where you can put an additional graphics card in to make use of hybrid SLI and furthermore you can put all of this with an scythe shuriken, overclock the Q8200 to 3 Ghz and put all of this in an Silverstone SUGO SG05B and you've got a little beast.
that tiny little box at 0:27 is a motherboard??? if it is WoW such a small motherboard never seen 1 like it :) but if it is a motherboard it doesnt need case??? because cases r bigger then that motherboard if it is a motherboard
The intel atom sucks ass...1.8 ghz dual core?1.8ghz sucks bad.

THE WAY OF THE FUTURE... believe... it's real.

Nvidia says it wont cost that much to have ion. I bought my laptop with an intel graphics and its hard to play even the very first counter strike.

are the dual core atoms with Ion available for any Netbook currently?, there is a major performance difference between single and dual core, its a serious bottle neck for the Geforce 9400,. Iv only seen Lenovo s-12 but thats a single core.

TRY PLAY CRYSIS...
raydenPGD111 2 years ago 3
Im sure it will be able to run crysis. Not in ultra high, but it'll run. Why dont you try run the most gpu-intensive game on something smaller than a box of milk?
94thts 2 years ago
Why? This is not for Gamers man, it's for mainstream consumers who would watch movies and or do things of that nature.
dannielpreto 2 years ago
But the netbooks will be for gamers, and they should be awesome.

I was thinking the same thing lol! 500ghz cpu at a thenth of an inch! =P
vincent154451 2 years ago
i think it is going to give about 4-10fps maximum but this thing is the smallest pc i have ever seen...don't forget that you need at least 20times bigger pc to play crysis with dignity :P...a good GPU for crysis is 5 times bigger than ion :P

there's a pc (or nettop) that's been released recently that is virtually identical to this called the ASRock Ion 330 (aka ASRock Ionstar). It's got the nvidia ion platform and a dual core atom 330 processor (overclockable to 2.1 ghz via the BIOS). It has received VERY good reviews and is available at around £230 in the UK (so around $450-$550 in the USA i'd guess.) It WONT be capable of replacing a high spec gaming PC, but should run most games from early 2008 backwards on high settings :).
lollylopz0r 2 years ago
You reckon it will run sims 3?

Firestorm189
I now have the ASRock ion 330. Yes it should run sims 3 pretty easily on low or mid settings, although it does depend on whether or not you overclock the processors and what operating system you're using :)

Hotdamn. I'm not a complete and utter newbie to computer modding ( i know the basics aka. how to switch out RAM and graphics cards properly etc), but would it be possible to switch out the atom processor for something more heavyweight, or does it depend on the atom due to the way it's built?
Firestorm189 2 years ago
assuming you didn't mind too much for size issues anyway.
Firestorm189 2 years ago

In short, i don't *think* that atom processors (whatever socket they use) can be upgraded on any atom pcs atm.
lollylopz0r 2 years ago
It is an embedded M-ITX board. You can try the 9300 D-ITX from Zotac. You could put any S775 processor on it. I would recommend the Q8200 which is as fast as the q6600 on 2.4 Ghz.... it also has an pci-e thingy where you can put an additional graphics card in to make use of hybrid SLI and furthermore you can put all of this with an scythe shuriken, overclock the Q8200 to 3 Ghz and put all of this in an Silverstone SUGO SG05B and you've got a little beast.
