Hey guys, it's only his backyard retreat, doesn't LIVE there. And in Atlanta, Georgia USA, there are few earthquakes and not much winter. It's a bit like having a pool house without the pool. It looks like fun.
I don't think the winter is such a big problem - why should it be? He is even more protected from snow and wind by all the trees around him... .
What I wonder is how dangerous this kind of house would be in case of a really strong storm or an earthquake. Wouldn't the trees shake from strong wind or intensify the rocking motion of the ground?
Nice Tree House!!! I can relate...I built a log cabin in my back yard with mostly damaged trees from an ice storm. It is my escape, my "Man Cave" Thanks for sharing
Uhm... did I miss the kitchen? Where does he prepare his food? Also, Atlanta, while warm, still is prone to some frost. That doesn't look insulated enough to be good 365 days a year...
This is something you would expect from teenagers. I was expecting something a little more sophisticated. Its only a metre or 2 off the ground. what the??
But....trees grow and therefore change.... Houses don't....so wouldn't these have to be constantly re-modeled or even taken down and rebuilt to some extent?
Kudos to you for building a retreat area with respect to the environment. I however am a little disappointed that the media made this out as a total sustainable living project.
I like this concept on how to use what you got to relax and get away without harming nature any further. Also, I agree with "@sn1pe352" comments done on TheEpisteme 6 days ago.
@CarlChub .....and the metal, bricks and plastics..etc used to build YOUR dwelling spewed pollution into the air that causes long term damage to the environment during their production. He used recycled material when possible from a renewable resource that helps to purify air as it grows. I don't advocate returning to the days of mass destruction of our forests, however. There are many resources for recycled materials that are being bulldozed everyday.
@10yearvet Nobody's ever died from air pollution, fool. Congratulations, you're another weak minded believer of of "global warming," the grandest farce of all time. Or... is it "climate change" now?
@CarlChub No numbnuts! I do NOT believe in "global warming" though I do believe in climate change considering the earths climate has a long history of changing itself. I also know that carcinogens and other crap spewed into the air HAS helped to increase bad health issue refuting your claim that no one has died of air pollution.
@CarlChub Yo moron, have you ever heard of Donora PA. Oct. 27, 1948, 20 dead. London, England December 5 - 9,1952, at least 4000 dead. Of course you and your ilk believe that the flat earth is 4600 years old and that Perry and Bachman actually have brains!!
@MalcolmHeardSB Speaking as a carpenter with 35 years experience in many stages of construction I can tell you that what it took to produce the materials for your house did MANY more times the damage to the environment than him using wood and recycled items to produce this!
@TheEpisteme people like you find flaws in everyone's ideas and it's really getting annoying for you armchair warriors to keep giving your flawed-egotistical interpretations on other people
this man actually went out there and accomplished something, all you do is pollute our earth with every toilet flush and piece of garbage you throw away, every time you start your vehicle and breath you take
The water-cycle system is getting tired of people like you, dont say anything unless its Nice.
@sn1pe352 I'm all for sustainable green living, but this isn't it. This doesn't reduce his carbon footprint or anything like that. He just built a neat place to hang out in his back yard and still lives in his real house with air conditioning and everything, and its not something an average person who doesn't have 6 acres of land and all the money and free time it takes to make something like that. Looking for flaws helps distinguish between real solutions and 'feel-good' ones that don't help.
I have watched this video many times. A lovely peaceful 'feel' to the environment and dwelling. How I appreciate the choice not to "level," clear, etc. I despise the fact that we thoughtlessly do the latter in modern-day. We humans have become so over-domesticated...seeking to impose our will upon all of life other than ourselves (and even upon each other). No doubt we will be humbled by 'life -' an outcome in which I think we are in dire need.
wat about an underground earth house (not a bunker) with a hot tub, those submarine cameras that see out the surface, basketball court, pool, plasma tv, etc :)

Agree peppertea55 Another thing that occurred to me is (though this is lovely I admit) that he has all this as a "retreat" (on top of his main home) when most people dont even have this or anything like to call there own.
the only thing id be worried about is people breaking in if ur in the middle of atlanta. id hate to come home to a dirty ol bum sleepin in my bed or some shit
You think this is cool? Check out treehouses. com... now those are some real treehouses about 30-40 ft off of the ground. and you can actually go and stay there and do zip lines and horseback riding. talk about killer!!
@littlelogcabins ah but trees just get taller from the top so the tree house will stay in the same spot as the tree continues to grow and trees live for a long time.
I would love to chat with you about the tree house if you're interested. I'm a tree house builder and arborist and love to see the different ways people build treehouses.
Horrible video camera work. Panning too fast. Zoomed in too close. Focused too much on insignificant subjects. Dizzying panning/spinning and rapid subject-changing. Etc. After watching a 3 minute video, I still don't think I've had a good look at it.
My dream: I want that guy to design a place like that for me, but i would want it to be used as a health food restaurant and serve only health food there. I would serve food people love that they usually wouldn't see in a restaurant and i would try to go as all natural and organic and wholesome as possible. I would plant a whole bunch of trees around it, so that people could enjoy nature. Remember this is just a dream...
I'm the builder & I wanted to respond to some of the questions in the comments... The t-houses don't ever get wet inside. I think it's because they're generally open to air flow and rain runs down the trees rather than pour into the structures. I keep everything out there year round. I don't get animals or even mosquitos. As for height..there r 7 trees involved and they move quite a bit in the wind. Too high and they wouldn't have lasted their 12 years. Built on a hill so that gives some height.
I'm not an environmentalist in any sense, but I wouldn't mind building my home around trees instead of knocking them down; however, keep in mind, people, it's probably expensive.
You build a shithouse in the middle of a load of trees in the city, so you can go and find yourself. And you find yourself right in the middle of a load of squirrels and rats. Fuck that for a game of soldiers.
Are you tired of all the noise pollution and the air pollution, and the constant danger of being run over? Try not walking down the middle of the freeway, dumbass.
hobbo house with windows :D and some stolen silk stuff :D and stolen bed 2.. and some other.. stolen things... ah fuck this.. the whole house is stolen :D
I think that rather then having a place where to retreat from your everyday life, it's more important to have a kind of life where you don't need a retreat.
@peppertea55 doesnt matter what you do, you will always need a break here and there... trust me. Doing the same thing all of the time can make life seem miserable.

Are you tired of all the noise pollution and the air pollution, and the constant danger of being run over? Try not walking down the middle of the freeway, dumbass.
