  • ba.LOL.

  • Some of the footage that reporters grab scares me, like plane crashes. I guess I don't have to watch if it makes me afraid. 9.9 *jj wonders if she'll have nightmares after this.*

  • I know why would you sue then if it was'nt for the companys you would not be in the sky in the first place

  • pilot saved lives! he rules

  • Technically, this wasn't Boeing's fault, it's Rolls-Royce's faulty engine that cause this incident. So sue the British!

  • @twnlumh IT WAS ACTUALLY ICE IN THE ENGINE SYSTEM, THEY COULD NOT GET THE ENGINES TO SPEED UP AS THEIR WAS ICE IN THE FUEL LINE!

  • this crash shows in crashes that change flying in discovery channel

  • ''Those slides shoot out like a rocket!'' Love British People

  • @MikeGasm That is the American way.

  • Tecnically the plane did make it just not in the correct way of approach :P

  • Nearly made it

  • god richard quest is annoying

  • stupid reporter who fucking cares about how the the flaps and engine looks after this landing(maybe the insurance company).......are the ppl OK ? are ppl injuried? how many ? where from? wth... :)))))

  • 1:28 "But we're now looking closer, Jonathan, at that gash " LMFAO! Tee hee hee!

  • @cuddleydoo the pilot works for British Airways. Boeing is the aircraft manufacturer.

  • I want to just tell those peole suing Boeing to just die. That pilot works so hard to keep them alive and then they go and start ranting at the company he works for. Outrageous.

  • something good will actually come out of this crash even though it was quite serious. IF the engine problem had not of been detected when this happened it could of happened over the atlantic hours from land. nobody was seriously injured which was a good thing as airplanes can easily be replaced but people cannot. now the problem has been found out about the engines this will prevent other aircrafts suffering the same problem.

  • This reporter is a wanker

  • Why oh WHY didn't one of the many aircraft enthusiasts who film most aircraft landings at Heathrow from the grassed area at the end of Myrtle Avenue manage to film this one??

    DAMMIT

  • this is the first ever 777 to crash since been in service.

  • did the captain of this flight not end up getting the sack over this incident ? im not accusing here , im sure i saw it on the news a while back , actual disgrace if he did!

  • I surprised CNN didn't blame Bush for this…

  • They should be praising the PILOTS for a very very great job and those passengers they should be kiising the Pilots feet for that if it was not for them then those passengers would be looking at the plane from the sky!!!!!

  • landing gear collapsed, yeah i couldnt tell from the engines being on the ground and not seeing under the plane, nice description, he's pretty much calling us retards.

  • i hate "richard quest" so damn bad he acts like he knows every damn little detail and thing about planes then he explains it like we are all idiots!

  • Can't stand Richard Quest.

  • It crashed because its got 5 cheap wings on the left hand side, what a drama queen. BA cut back, using scaffolding planks for wings. Thank you for flying british airways, in the unfortunate event we have to make a forced landing, remove any sharp obsticals from your pocket, like, red hot pieces of engine casing etc.

  • ".. and the engine is on the ground. That is why you 're seeing the engine on the ground at the moment."

    This made laugh! =)

  • please explain how this is boeings fault.

  • Does the guy on the phone have throat cancer - I mean shut up.

  • your right ilovespiderz

  • Firstly, if you want to know the reasons why BA038 landed short of the runway, go to the AAIB website or just google for the OFFICIAL report. Secondly, Captain Burkill and FO Coward are true heroes. Whats the saying? "A good landing is one you can walk away from". Everyone walked away from this landing. Also, the whole "Airbus rules Boeing suck" and vice versa thing is pathetic. They both make great aircraft.

  • Lol! :-) @firstclasspassenger

  • The crash report has been published, re this aircraft, pilot made a good landing had no option but to reduce flaps to make the airfield, engines failed due to frozen fuel pipes.

I understand that the problem of the fuel heat exchanger issue has been rectified.

Well done Captain and 1st Officer you did a great job getting the aircraft down.

    John mabbs

  • Now, this is why runways can't have nice things...

  • what is that 777-300ER ??

  • The guy talking can't help but state the obvious. It was kind of pointless aswell when he said that those slides shoot out like a rocket. And the fact that they use flaps and that the engine is on the ground. Made me laugh aswell when he said that the gash in the wing was caused by the left engine when u can clearly see the landing gear sticking out of it.

  • I'm with

    SAMLAD2k6

  • what happend?

  • another B777 going to the junkyard

  • another? are you drunk bud

  • This is the only 777 hull ever lost, moron. Do you ever do much research on anything other than your empty refrigerator? I'd tell you to pull your head out of your ass but that'd deprive you of valuable breathing air and I'm really not into animal cruelty.

  • This is why the Boeing 777 still has a sexy safety record. 777/SPEEDBIRD FTW!

  • Rolls Royce fault. Boeing should use only GE or P&W engines.

  • This is from a faulty heat exchanger design for the Rolls Royce. They're great engines, but this particular engine model needs that problem fixed and it should be just as good as its siblings.

  • @zeespuleta Boeing does use GE engines on the 777 it also uses rolls royce. all depends on what the customer wants. GE developed the GE90 just for the 777 i hauled many from GE's test plant to boeing.

  • This really pisses me off. NOW, 10 of the passengers wants to sue Boeing for this. I mean, Jeez! You think people would be less greedy! How about looking back and thinking you're still alive, rather than looking back as an inconvenience that is worth sueing! People are so greedy, they would do anything to get money in their pockets.

  • @IloveSPIDERZ

Well said. Its fucking awful that.

  • @G777GUN thanks. It's really true!

  • @IloveSPIDERZ all due respect there sueing boeing NOT the pilot. If its boeings fault that passangers were put through that trauma they have a right to sue, iam sure i wud sue as well, lucky to be alive or not cause the way i look at it, its down to the pilot why there still alive NOT boeing.

  • @COLLIER217 So what if you weren't alive? Would you sue then? It's not even Boeings fault. It just happens. Shit happens. Look at the 777 now. Almost 2 decades, and this p[lane never caused a fatality on a passenger. If Boeing knew or found this problem in the testing phase, they would've fixed it. But only this flight and one other where ice actually gets built upto cause thrust reduction.

  • @IloveSPIDERZ And actually Boeing has de-icing equipment if the engines and wings, so either it wasnt properly de-iced before take off or this is pilot error not boeing's fault

  • @tank11157 Really? Deiced before takeoff? Ok, if it is 50 degrees down here on earth, it will be -50 up 40,000 feet up. Now what good would that do, for a plane too be de-iced before a long trip? And routinely, these pilots landed this aircraft dozens of times. All of a sudden, both engines shut off on your recent landing attempt. Your saying that's the pilots' fault?

  • @IloveSPIDERZ Im saying it could be pilot error! if they do not turn on de-icing for the engines and they rapidly change altitude, that would cause and water to immediately freeze

  • @IloveSPIDERZ the plane also has an onboard deicing system i know it covers the wings not sure about the engines

  • @IloveSPIDERZ no point in sueing them because they will lose anyway, you cant sue for no reason like this.

  • @TheWarPlanet exactly!!

  • @TheWarPlanet jesus u sound like the insurance company that dosint want to pay out lol, so you are saying that it could be the pilots fault?? well on a personal level i would sue because its someones fault! If you fell over a misplaced paving slab and you were guarnateed payment would you sue? because thats just one of those things. No one deserves to go through that kind of trauma, have there life flashed in front of them if you know what i mean,

  • @TheWarPlanet i mean would you sue if they accidently lost your luggage??. At the end of the day i would look for someone to sue because am sure they would be quick enough to sue ME!! if i missed a couple of my direct debit payments for one of there holidays.

  • @IloveSPIDERZ not to mention the lifetime of scaring they have from flying now :)

  • @poohbealov If they are that emotionally unstable then they probably shouldn't be flying in the first place.

  • @IloveSPIDERZ

haha... it'S just like you sue for example bmw because the bumper fell of because the car is 20 years old...

    It's not boeings fault... it's the aircraft's^^

  • @IloveSPIDERZ

have no fear death have a way of repeating itself, even if they sue they wouldn't live long enough to spend it, and on there way to the morgue they will wish they have think differently, just like in the USA when one of the highway fly overs failed a woman who escaped by taking another route met death 7 days after got struck in a car crash. more than 1000 years and people still haven't learn don't take life for granted, today your here and tomorrow your not.

  • @IloveSPIDERZ

    Completly agree with you.

  • @takkcertu Thanks

  • @IloveSPIDERZ I completely agree with you!!! Hugs, from Montevideo, Uruguay

  • @rwasmyfirstlove Thank you! Hugs from NY, USA.

  • @IloveSPIDERZ people want to SUE boeing?? my god what fat pigs, as you said they should be glad they are alive...

  • @rossesc I know it! It's completely rediculous!

  • @IloveSPIDERZ - i agree, this has nothing got 2 do with boeing its just maybe a pilot landing it or something broke but not boeing fault

  • @michaelpl100 Well, it was a designissue regarding the aircraft. But the point is they should see it as a second chance, rather than seeing it as a sueable event because it was "inconvenient" for them.

  • @IloveSPIDERZ I couldn't agree with you more! People get on airplanes believing that issues never occur and that if something does happen then the company is at fault. In reality, engineering will fail at some point in time. Aircraft engineers can run their calculations numerous times showing that if an airplane is properly maintained an emergency will never occur, however, we live in an imperfect world and accidents DO happen. This world is not perfect. Count your blessings people!!

  • @IloveSPIDERZ You would but you just want to act all smart and mature and sub consiously want boeing to be richer for when you sue them.

  • @IloveSPIDERZ I would bet money that they're American

  • @MikeGasm ...I am. Thanks.

  • Dude, the true asshole is THE PILOT, he landed before tochdown the runway, the pilot was a complete Jackass

  • @Skybolter His engines failed, and the pilot deserves a medal as he glided the plane in... at least it wasnt 500 yrds back into peoples homes or houses, he did a great job... ppl shuld be greatful to be able to live not sue

  • @kingswaylad Ouch, i didn't realized that, sorry, i guess wrong about the pilot.

  • @IloveSPIDERZ seriously? so if this happened to you and were entitled to money, you wouldn't sue them because you want to be nice to a company that could care less if you sue them or not?

  • @IloveSPIDERZ I thoght only americans sued people for un-necessary reasons (i'm american btw so i'm admiting to my countries greetyness)

  • That Brit idiot keeps talking about that "gash" on the wing being created by the left engine. Is he SO stupid he can't see the left main gear strut sticking up through the top of that half of the wing?

  • I fucking hate flying, its so scary.

  • what you guys on about 'fake video' i saw this on t.v.

  • I love the inane chattiness of the commentator! He knows very little but he gives the impression that he can surmise a great deal from the footage.

  • i bet those escape slides are great at parties!

  • @ryonni123 Oh yeah!

  • It's not fake...check your facts

  • however the airbus has some features designed to reduce those human risks that matter of facts are not 99.9 percentage, close but little bit less

  • ws this the one wre the pilot said he lost complete power?

  • Panictactics and tomysch are both real life dumbass'. Don't know about aircraft then don't bother watching AVIATION VIDEOS if you don't know the first thing about it. I hate people like that.

  • To settle this once and for all, this "crash" is the result of a frozen fuel line that's plagued the Rolls Trent engines on the 777s. Rather than the fuel being warmed up at altitude, the lines froze, causing fuel starvation, which turn caused THIS particular incident. A Continental 777 had the same effect, but remedied the problem by descending to around 18,000 feet from cruise altitude, where the crew was able to restart the engines.

  • Well what actually happened is that the ice actually accumulated in the fuel / oil heat exchanger tubes and partly clogged it, causing a reduction of fuel flow in the exchanger, not the lines themselves and hence the loss of power. It's an entirely new finding.

Rolls is designing a new heat exchanger.

  • i doubt a 737 would of had the same outcome with such a hard impact. He made a great decision to land on the grass as this softened the impact slightly.

  • A 737 wouldn't fly as high and as long at high altitudes to get this problem with fuel icing issues.

That plane was lucky to make it as far as the grass once the engines went to flight idle. It wasn't so much a decision as an inevitable outcome.

  • It seems like everybody in YouTube can fly these days huh? Oh well, not really, but think they could fly and give some good points... I'm not even pilot, I don't know shit about flying, so I ain't gonna go and try to be some smart ass who doesn't no shit...

I think that flying on GTA or some other games is not same as in real world... You can be expert on games, but not in real life.

  • this is my video of larnaca airport,Cyprus,Greece! :D

    watch?v=CCmcVFt8Y7c

  • The pilots skill just an avarage and not much to be proud of. In fact he was lucky could bring the plane down since the plane was already in glide slope where most pilot will do. Morever the pilot should have an early warning or alert of engine thrust stability and might regard as reckless due to fail monitoring the equipemnt properly during in flight. Anyway since thy were BA pilot they were heroes in whatever failures they have done.

  • sahmdt,

Please do not post about flying, as you apparantly have no idea what we do.

If a 777 is ON GLIDE SLOPE, then it is there with the help of THRUST. Both engines had an UNCOMMANDED roll-back, therefor there would be NO warning prior to this happening!

So there is no way the 777 can stay ON glide-slope with ZERO thrust. I would say these pilots did one hell of a job making sure NO ONE DIED!

  • ...what you stated sir... doesnt even make sense clearly you have no idea what your talking about and you are just another youtube "wunna pretend i am a pilot fanboy"

  • who are you to judge??? just because you play flight sim on your pc means nothing. your not a pilot well in real life, maybe in your bedroom you are.

  • Why is the plane crash ?

  • The whole purpose of fly by wire is to be able to do reckless piloting w/o breaking the hydraulic systems or stalling or breaking the air frame. The computer analyse the pilot input and output to the hydraulic systems only in the maximum capabilities of the aircraft, or correct piloting error like stalling. It also keep the plane leveled automatically.

  • tommysch,

that is not even close to why fly-by-wire technology exists.

I am so sick of people spilling their "knowledge" about crap when they have no clue what they are talking about.

  • i love the way people get offended by the electronics of an aircraft! LMAO!!

  • yes sir ! thats what i like to see kiddo ! :)

  • (More correctly, on large aircraft, these controls were boosted by hydraulic actuators, which pretty much means they used transmission fluid running through piping, analogous to your car's brake lines.)

so panictactics ? been in a cockpit before have you? clown ! try to understand how the systems work before you flame people that know.

  • If I were enough of a tool to try and explain 'fly by wire' on youtube, I would at least have done it in a clear and concise manner. Sorry, but you seem rather confused.

  • panictactics" you are retarded , thats why you have no understanding in the way the dam plane even works... dont even type kiddo

  • Yawn... The typical arrogance and ignorance of the youtube 'expert'. Good on you.

You are the authority on all matters aeronautical sir. Thank you.

  • I really feel like punching the guy who was talking.

  • The engines failed on final, people would have died if it where not 4 pro BA British pilots :)

  • nope engines didnt fail, they lost power (enough so that the plane could not keep at the height that the pilot needed, thats what you get for having a fully digital plane(no wires) great pilot skills though bravo :)

  • '(no wires)'. What is that suppost to mean? Are you a bit stupid dumb?

  • ERRRR NO ARE YOU DUMB? FLY BY WIRE! LOOK UP THE TERM KIDDO BEFORE YOU COMMENT AND MAKE YOURSELF LOOK LIKE A TURD. it means in basic english for retards like panictactics: no cables just modem com cables between com ports. i.e no cables! just wireless shit that can go wrong ! duhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !

  • Your understanding of 'fly by wire' is suspect.

    Clown.

  • What happened was, a British Airways plane on final approach into London's Heathrow Airport lost both engines and all power to the on-board electronics systems. Apparently everything went south except an altimeter and air-speed indicator running on battery backup ..

  • 777 is a so-called "fly-by-wire" aircraft. This means it essentially uses computers to control the flight surfaces (wings, rudder, etc.). Commands from the flight deck are transmitted to the physical plane through wires and computers and finally to the hydraulic actuators which operate the control surfaces. This is in contrast with older, nonelectronic designs, where you had cables directly connected to the control surfaces.

  • jose i was on that plane, u can see me waving on the window with a green hat

  • and how do we know its you?

  • when i heard the news about the plane crash me and my friend jack was flying to london at gatwick airport we were scared to shit man.

  • so it corssed half of the world?

Which way over asia or over USA from china?

  • This was very close to of beeing my family we were on our way back from australia via singapore so this could of happened to us but during the flight we had terrible turbilance which made even the pilot nervous but never the less i had sleeping tablets and slept through the full thing : )

  • Nice, I need to get some sleeping tablets for my flight to california, I hate flying.

  • I know what the real problem was...

It was flying over Russia - very cold - and the engines were not increased or decreased through the whole cruising of the flight. Some of the anti-ice systems failed and a small part of the fuel pipe froze up. Eventually, when it landed, it used more throttle and the fuel could not be supplied quick enough due to the clogage. Therefor, the engine lost power.

  • rawr!

    i luf this vid Nk

  • No it wasn't a total loss of power. It was actually a problem to do with the fuel in the tank freezing and something along those lines which then lead to the a/c making a crash landing. Oh yeah, and people only praised the cabin crew on their "professionalism" due to the simple fact that they are BA cabin crew, thats it. If this happened to any other airline, people would have shit to be saying.

  • need reason for this crap.... enough of this bull shit explanation.. was it a total loss of power?? .. if yes then how??

  • no wonder BA is runnin it

  • Fatal Crash Rate per 1.000.000 Flights. Boeing 727** 0.49 Boeing 737 0.45 Boeing 747 0.76 Boeing 757** 0.30 Boeing 767 0.40 Boeing 777 0.00 Boeing DC9** 0.57 Boeing DC10** 0.67 Boeing MD11** 0.56 Boeing MD80/MD90 0.26 I know Boeing has a SAFETY "problem" indeed.
  • Airbus A300 0.54

    Airbus A310 1.27

    Airbus A320/319/321 0.13

    Airbus A340 0

    Airbus A330 0

Not as if airbus is all that better.

  • The Boeing 777 Crash Landed because it was a computer problem. Well done to the cabin crew members, who managed to evacuate, the pilots well done and all the other services life the fire brigade. The plane looks awful and it looks like they won't be flying it for a while!

  • osama

  • The AAIB think that it was a problem with the fuel delivery system with the a/c.

Congratz to not just the flight-crew but to the cabin-crew & emergency teams!

  • CNN is so stupid, the"journalist" is only describing what he sees,my grandma could have done that.

  • damn good pilots some of the best in the country

  • I was there.Didnt see it happen but seen the wreckage. I was waiting for a flight to belfast. That pilot has skill.

  • am really sur ethese guyz stalled but don wanna say it..how do two engines fail at the same time, during a landing..i stand corrected if am wrong but ..i think they stalled

  • No one knows why both engines failed to respond at the same time but the current thinking is that it was a computer problem. The pilot commanded power but the engines did not respond.

  • god this guys a fucking idiot. he's justsaying exactly wat were looking at, were not blind...

  • Haha, Runenerd08 you're such a dick.

  • did u no that...

u are more likely to be killed by ur trousers than getting injured on a plane?

i mean like getting ur knob stuk in the zip and dying

  • What if your a women?

  • i thought u were talkin about trousers killing with a wedgie but getting ur "nob" stuck is also very probable..

  • twice as many ppl die from donkeys than from aeroplane crashes!!!!!

  • horizonflyer9, And how many cars are on the road each day.

  • Is that true? Really never heard that

  • Still, air travel is the safest way to travel. Think about cars already take away millions of lives each year.

  • The Airplane is considered the most safe vehicle in the transportation industry .

  • it's a shame, the 777 had a perfect record until this crash...correct?

  • its was engine failure. thats rols rices problem

  • It wasnt a crash, more of an emergency landing, they say it was due to a flock of birds getting caught in the turbines.

    BLAMES THE BIRDS!

  • idk i never watched it i was 2 borrowd

  • No when planes crash its air canada, watch air crash inventigation;

  • and planes r the safest way to travel sure

  • hey, asshole. lets do a comparison, shall we? how often do people die in car crashes? there is a fatal car crash every 8 seconds. how often do people die in airplanes? once every 11 days! how about you turn on the radio and listen to traffic? then you will hear, "there is an overturned truck, a fatal car fire, a pileup of 4 cars, and someone got flung off of the washington bridge," every few minutes! tell me how often you hear, "there was a horrible plane crash at the airport. injuries reported?

  • hey u r rite.. planes r prob as bad as cars.. but yet cars are worse too

  • i mean really, your more likely to die in a car crash on the way to the airport than in a plane crash!!!! and you're more likely to get struck by lighting than attacked by a shark and more likely to get attacked by a shark, than win the lottery!!!

  • has anyone heard about air transat i think it has happened to this aswell

  • Thats Freaakin Crazy how the hell do u manage to fall short of the runway

  • There Was An Engine Faliure. Don't You Watch The News?

  • You lose lift, a landing is just a controlled stall. In this case, the engines didn't respond to the demand for increased power on the end of final approach. The thrust levers were pushed to higher power but the engines didn't power up in response. As a result, the plane slowed down, losing lift and coming down like a rock, luckily within the airport perimeter and not into a bunch of houses.

  • My bro in law was on this flight and he thinks that it was pilot error. As an aircraft engineer myself the chances of anything catastophic to fail is unlikely. Systems are backed up by systems.

Also a good friend of mine works in air traffic and said they had problems 2 miles out......this is where they turn off autopilot!

  • Another reason to fly BA: well trained (sometimes ex RAF) pilots! When the shit hits the fan, it's training that can save the day. Just remember to isolate the fuel tanks once landed eh (The AAIB report criticised the pilots for failing to shut off fuel in a certain way once landed- but after what they'd been through, I think they can be excused?)
