  • @xboxprogroup terminal

  • what is the program that you write your code in?

  • @MrHuglz If you look at the top left you can find the name of the application that is being used. In this case, he's using "TextMate".

  • @MrHuglz TextMate by the looks of it

  • @MrHuglz He said it in the beggin..

  • @MaxAmaSity Says the person who doesn't know how to spell "you're"

  • @dogsgonewild167 spelling has nothing to do with this. you dont even know the POINT of coding? fuck off

  • where do i get this software?

  • need that wallpaper

  • umm when i do the alert(); code it doesnt pop up. do you know why?

  • @TheCommunitySniping nevermind i fixed it

  • This tutorial is frustrating for those of us not using 60 inch screens. The text is so tiny it's almost unreadable even at full screen. Com'mon guys. Did you preview this for the web before putting it up?

  • Can anyone make this for windows i dont even know what proggram is he using...

  • @adriansantos12 Excuse me. Are you retarded by any chance? He states what ''program'' he is using in the first 20 seconds of the video. The ''program'' is a ''text editor'' and a ''web browser''.

  • @adriansantos12 for windows, use notepad to create and edit the text. use your web browser to test it

  • @adriansantos12

if you dont know what those are then dont even bother trying to learn coding.

  • @RCD608 this quote has discouraged me...lol at least I gave it a shot

  • @Gridironmixtape

you're not adrian so why did u even bother responding?

anyways you dont need to know about coding to know what CMD aka Command is! and text editors!! (notepad, notepad++, etc). its basic computer knowledge.

  • @adriansantos12

You might want to learn rudimentary computers before trying to learn how to code.

  • Ha you want to code dont be like him .......use windows / linux mac computers have the most closed source OS ever

  • umm... what about windows?

  • I did the code like in the video, but how do I test it out now?

  • you suck to explain..

  • @ERSorensen

It could be the 'eclipse theme'

  • What TextMate theme is that?

  • what program are you using to program?

  • @strohbros it's TextMate

  • @strohbros just look at the top corner of the screen, its called textmate

  • When I try to open my html file on ANY browser it just displays the source code and doesn't render it. I'm on Mac OS X and used TextEdit to create the file. Yes it has the html suffix and all the opening and closing tags. Any ideas?

  • @Blues251 Look in the options. By default, TextEdit doesn't save the files properly.

  • @iJappy Thanks! It's working now, make sure the text is formatted as plain text, not rich text.

  • Thankyou LifeHacker, at least for a start SOMEWHERE in coding. Will send the author an email, I want to learn learn learn.

Thanks for a nice series, I've watched and done the homework and review on all of the 1-4. Very nice, and UNDERSTOOD by me!

  • If you ever wondered how to program in Javascript (Or even get hints in ActionScript and PHP) Just for reference my list of programming languages I've actively used now goes:

BASIC, COBOL, APL, Assembler, VisualBASIC, PHP, ActionScript, Javascript, and C, as well as BASH shell, etc. )

  • well this is my first time learning to script and i might as well learn lolz

  • @lifehacker, what are you using/how do you have those special folders/icons on your desktop

  • @conorucd Oh My God! It's over nine thous... wait it's a MAC!

  • @TheX1Alpha Yes... the views....

Those special folders/icons are there because he is using a MAC :)

  • Thanks for the useful lesson.. I'm about to start a Computer Science course so .. thanks for the useful info. again! :)

  • What do I type the script into on windows 7?

  • @thomaswolfe29 notepad

  • @thomaswolfe29 try Notepad++ It's better than notepad and it's free too :)

  • thanks

  • @sonicdelight thanks

  • Anybody know what editor he's using and how he got the folders on the right to look like that (display no of contained items)?

  • Huh. Didn't realize JavaScript was so similar to ActionScript. I've been meaning to try it out but I never really got the chance... looks like this is my chance.

There should be more videos like this, honestly. This is basically how you'd be taught in a high school level programming class. It does make it relatively easy to pick up. (About to start my C++ class, but I'm not quite sure what to expect there.)

  • @yanautopia yep, Actionscript is based off javascript

  • Yes, finally... a real approach that I can actually grasp and follow...

    Thanks man...

  • keep them coming homie

  • That was very basic and so I loved it! Headed to a good start.

  • Well done thanks!

  • This is awesome. Thanks for sharing with non-coders like myself

  • great work keep it up!
