  • Excellent! I agree; fantastic sound! Thanks for sharing this!!

  • No....I like Pete better

  • thanks for the upload! I really dont think there is a song out there that they cant sing well....

  • thanks for the upload!

  • KICKASS.

  • its better than the original in some ways. Definitely more upbeat and has a PJ feel to it. They took a really good Pete Townshend song and made it that much better. Kudos to Pete and PJ !

  • Sorry but this is not even close to PT......Music was good but Eddie was not on for this one!

  • Wow what a strange song to cover. Don't get me wrong, I fucking LOVE this song, but I would never expect someone to cover it, let alone PJ. Excellent vocals by Eddie.

  • one of the pearl jam covers i still remember after 15 years. they really did it better than the original

  • @dryhumper2 Helllll no. I love PJ, but NO ONE could ever beat the legendary Peter Townsend.

  • Great cover.

    Too cool.

  • Awesome

  • @lastexit85. Thanks

  • Very awesome cover to a classic.

  • Who's better than Pete?........Nobody!!!!

  • must be Brendan O'Brien sitting in on keyboards and singing for this show

  • woow, impressive audio quality for such low quality video! NICE upload!

  • opening for the dead or stones?

  • me too ;D is better than the original

  • I was at this concert. Got there at 9 in the morning waited in line all day about 100 degrees out one of pearl jam's best nights.

  • live

  • Awesome cover

Pearl Jam and Pete Townsend are THE BEST

  • holy shit! that´s awsome! pear jam hace this cover in studio???

  • i have this version on my ipod.

  • but u have this version in live or studio?!?!?!

  • This is the only cover of this song that i like. Pearl Jam is the only band that even comes close to the feeling of Townshend.

  • best cover ever !!!

    go Pearl Jam GO !!!

  • It kinda helps that Eddie IDOLIZES The Who. He definitely brings a fantastic kind of reverence to Pearl Jam's covers of Who songs.

  • Great song and that's a really cool version. Hey if you don't mind, please check out my version of this song (cavanaughvideo)

    Thanks :)

    mc

  • Eddie sounds like Ray Davies covering Pete Townsend on this, I normally don't like Eddie's singing, but I like his voice on this, the acoustic version sounds good too.

  • Great song, but they need work on the instrumental portion. Did not do it justice.

  • i love this song

  • they pick some great songs to cover. last time i saw them, there was a traffic jam in the parking lot and they refused to start until everyone was in...eddie came out and did a 4 song acoustic set of great beatles songs. hide your love away, dig a pony, mr mustard and a crowd sing along of yellow submarine...it was fantastic.....than they played past county curfew....they did an hour long encore of nothing but vs material, including wma and glorified g.

  • an hour long encore of only vs. material... that is actually making me drool haha

  • ha, yeah, Eddie and Pearl Jam are notorious for pushing curfews to the limit. They love playing sets until they are satisfied that the fans have had a good time. That's why I'm grateful that when I went to see them at Camden, NJ, we didn't have a curfew. We didn't get out that night until after midnight, and PJ took the stage at like 7:30. It was a crazy awesome set.

  • Pete is the best but not bad to listen to either

  • Great cover! The British rock sound fits Pearl Jam like a glove.

  • Pearl jam could cover any song and make it rock. This is awesome.

  • Agreed, they're AWESOME like that

  • Why does that one guitar player keep walking over to the other guitar player trying to kiss him????

  • It's called sing into the mic.

  • it´s not a guitar...it´s a bass

  • bass guitar xD

  • Wow! So great. Thanks for posting.

  • I went to grad school in Missoula MT, Jeff Ament is from a little town in Montana where I know people as well--and he still lives in Missoula part-time. Anyway, because of this, they often do a concert at the UM Fieldhouse. Just before the Vitalogy CD came out, I went to the opening concert of that tour, in Missoula. I got a bootleg of the whole concert, on cassette. The version of this song in MT was better than this one, but I have no video. Someday I'll convert it to digital and post!

  • Awesome cover!

Pearl Jam does some great covers of Who songs (and this too lol)

but they are awesome for that

  • This is the best cover of this song ever. And the funny part is that it doesn't seem like the whole band knew how to play it. But they pulled it off really well.

  • what a sick cover! go PJam!

  • This is one of the best cover I ever heard. Is that really Eddy singing?

  • Damn fine stuff.

  • Fuck yeah. That was awesome.

  • LOVE IT!! Pearl Jam Kicks ASS!!

  • cause the who are the best!! impossibel not cover! :D

  • why does pearl jam have to cover everything by the who or anyone in the who

    there like the ultimate groupie

  • Because they like The Who and want to pay homage? If I actually had a band I would probably play a bunch of Who songs.....

  • most bands pay homage with one or two songs

not as many as these guys

  • i dont know if its just about paying homage, I mean if I had a band I would play all kinds of other bands songs if I could. basically, if there's a song I like, and My band could learn it, i would totally play it just because we can

  • i can understand that if its just like a garage band

but not when you've got a great lyricist in Vedder

  • "I shoud have been sendind pete townshend father;s day cards." Eddie Vedder once said. I've seen Pearl jam about 6 times. Last time (in Mt. View Ca.) they payed The Kids Are Alright and ended with Baba O'Riley. E.V. loves Pete, understands him or at least his songs, and well kind of.....wants to be him. Which, I think , is great. I do too. : )

  • again...

    great cover!!!

    go pearl jam

  • That was cool how you mixed the mp3 audio with the video footage good job

  • they play the who's music so well (yes i knwo its a townsend song, but every who song was a townsend song)..with a reverence you don't see too often when you hear covers..bravo!!!

  • man, great cover

  • dude

pearl jam is pretty much the only band that should cover the who

they do it with real passion and don;t sound like shit!!

    go pearl jam

  • love it when suddenly everyone on youtube are world famous producers or execs and come here talkin shit or being critical of bands....classic. shut the fuck up already and go play guitar hero fags

  • yield is the best album from the 90's

  • LOL!

  • I won't sit here and argue with someone who doesn't know the meaning of the word since and resort to childish name calling. But for the record and just so you know I'll tell you.

"But since No Code it seems that he thinks he only needs to open his mouth to succeed."

That clearly means that you are including No Code in your argument about Ed. So don't accuse me of "not reading." How am I supposed to foresee that you don't know what since means?

This is petty, as is namecalling. So I'll stop.

  • "Since" does not mean "because." It refers to a time since t=x (i.e., t=1996). Stop pissing me off, and shut your over-confident under-qualified ass-for-a-mouth.

  • The bassist and the guitarist don't know the chords to the bridge... but who cares, they're just having fun..

  • we used to mess up the bridge too haha.

  • I Love This song

  • So he disappointed you in a live performance in 1995? Yeah, I think you're just a god damn complainer.

  • Yeah, I think you want to suck my nuts.

  • eddie vedder looks a lot thinner

  • this is cool

  • its a great f-kking cover

  • Not really.

  • I think so

  • why do you not like this cover?

  • It sounds like a rehearsal. Eddie used to inspire me; He used to inspire a lot of people. He did that by being honest, fierce, and by trusting the world to see his emotions exposed. We identified with that, and we found strength in that. But since "No Code," it seems that he thinks he only needs to open his mouth to succeed. It just feels like watching a loved one feign enthusiasm for life. It makes me sad.

  • and yeah, I know this was a before "No Code."

  • So it's inspiring to jump from the balcony onto a crowd of people? yet you don't get inspired by being an advocate for environmental awareness?

Seriously, what is wrong with people? Do you think before you speak?

btw, No Code is their best!

  • Ummmm...I said since No Code. Do you read before you respond?

And hey, asshole, Eddie was never just about jumping into a crowd. Get off your high green horse.

  • I won't get into english lessons with you, but the phrase "since No Code" includes No Code into your little shpeel about Ed.

  • thelucky1s, I apologize--I thought I was allowed a bit of flexibility. If you reread my "shpeel," you will notice that I said "since 'No Code'." That means I liked "No Code." In your previous self-righteous response, you wrote "...a crowd of people? yet you don't get inspired...." As a friend, I just want to let you know that there should be a comma between the words "people" and "yet." Go back to school, asshole. I love "No Code."

    btw, "shpeel" is spelled "SPIEL."

  • cant wait for Pearl Jams tribute to the Who next month in L.A gonna be a great show

  • Yeah, well, you're an odd bitch.

  • okay?

  • NOT OKAY.

  • NO YOU!

  • ...and you too.

  • I must say you are a cheeky little person.

  • this is pretty good for a live song

  • great cover. were they opening for the dead? maybe jerry was already gone.

  • The dead played the night before.

  • wow this song is already a masterpiece, and Eddie Vedder is the man, so that makes this song amazing

  • Awesome man! One of my favorite bands.

  • Top 10 Pearl Jam gig of all time.

  • great sound. and great cover.

  • dude this is freakin' good. excellent sound quality too.[2]

    OMG its preety freak cool

  • Great version. Well done on the sound too.

  • I love Eddie but he looks like Polly Shore from this shot.

  • Wow the audio is amazingly clear for a home video camera from 1995!!

  • Is The Guy on the left of Eddie Stone Gossard? He dosent look like Gossard, but I was just wanting to know who it was.

  • Sure is. Jeff Ament is walking back and forth snf Mike McCready is on Eddies right. Just like every show.

  • No, Stone is on Eds right. Cready, Jeff, Eddie and Stone from left to right is the norm.

  • Ok, I'm sorry but left and right are relative terms, and relative to Ed, Stone is on the left and Mike is on the right. Relative to the audience Stone is on the right and Mike is on the left. If there is any debate to that I would LOVE to hear the argument.

  • doesnt the guy to Eddie's left look like a fill in? He doesn't play the guitar very smooth.

  • Very good. This song sounds so good with the heavy acoustics.

  • dude this is freakin' good. excellent sound quality too.

  • awesome story goood job bro PEARL JAM always!

  • i was at that show,,it was awsome! i bought tix from a scalper, when me and my friend got our tix checked at the door, the man checkin tix said they were counterfeit, i was bummed for a minute my friend motioned to me that the guard had his back turned so we just ran in and the show was great!!!

  • i know its hard to believe but it happened, have a good day ''aintshit969''

  • If I was pinned down and forced to listen to Pearl Jam live stuff for the rest of my life, I would die a very happy man!

    Excellent cover!!

  • Nice remake by Pearl Jam! Still the original by Townshend is much better in my opinion. They both capture a different feeling - depending on one's mood. Cheers!

  • Cartoon voice? WTF? The guy was at the front of the garage band days.

  • I love this version, too bad the 95 movie version got deleted off youtube by those Tenclub assholes.

  • Way better than the original. Pete should have recorded it in this style with the Who.

  • So true. Eddie V is the man. I love how he takes a stand against high ticket prices.

  • 1beefsbabe,

I like your remark about the low ticket prices.

It kind of reminds me of a comment Pete made in an interview, 10-15 years ago.

"The fans come first. If we (The Who) can't offer them our best, we don't desrve the money they pay us."

Kinda connects Pete to Eddie in a way, ya think?

  • absolutely. Both are great people. Not for money but for us pions. But more than that, their music is just really good to listen to.

  • Simple, but very well put!

Neither, Pete, or Eddie would ever appear, or record, anything but what they know in their own musical minds, is their best effort, AND SOMETHING THEY HOPE THEIR FANS WILL APPRECIATE, YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT!

    Thanks.

  • omfg, this is so cool...he has such an amazing voice...

  • Eddie V is way down to earth. Did you know they used to be called the Mookie Blaylock Band? They changed it when they got good. That is why their first album is titled 10- Blaylock's #. People used to have all these crazy ideas cuz PJ is so cool, like it's after the ten commandmens.

  • My god...amazing..why don't they pull this out in 08? :)

  • great tune...legendary show...PJ rocks!

  • awesome tune

  • Sweet cover! Their Who cover of "Love Reign O'er Me" is awesome too. I think need to listen to some more Pearl Jam.

  • listen to do riot act, its my favourite one

  • you should listen to other songs of pearl jam

  • Eh. Pete did it better. These guys are just all "eeeeeh weee're siiiingiiing eeeeh".

  • dude.. you're a retard what are you talking about?

  • They just sound so whiny and depressed.

  • pete did it better nobody does it better than the orignal, but still its cool to hear a grungy guitar version

  • one of the best covers Pearl Jam has done!..love it! ...and to continue.... Let my love open the door, ooh Let my love open the door Let my love open the door, ooh Let my love open the door When everything feels all over, everybody seems unkind I'll give you a four-leaf clover, take all worry out of your mind Let my love open the door Let my love open the door Let my love open the door to your heart
  • When people keep repeating

That you'll never fall in love

    When everybody keeps retreating

But you can't seem to get enough

Let my love open the door

Let my love open the door

Let my love open the door

    To your heart
