I swear this reminds me of According to Jim here in the United States in this way and I guess it is true that it's not just us Americans being lazy I am glad I am not eating like that guy anymore and I've already lost 75 pounds (34 kilograms) and I hope I keep it off for good.
To be honest, I think James Dreyfus take on the role is just as good in his own way. He may be a bit camper and play the role differently but he still made me laugh!
That "clown"..as you refer to the bloke (Not that I disagree, mind you) is one James Dreyfuss..whom I think was soooooooooo wrong for the show. But he *did* get the role by default, since O'Hnalon had, after 5-6 years expressed a desire to move on..
Dreyfuss is probably best known as P.C. Goodie in Rowan Atkinson's "The Thin Blue Line". He also co-starred in BBC's "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" as well.
An acquired taste his humor and delivery is-kinda like Brussell Sprouts.

Ok just another question: how did they explain the sudden change in appearance? or did they not say anything at all about George looking AND sounding completely different.
thay said somthing in 1 of the episodes about "the new george". janet said somthing like "oh no honey, i love the new george!" but the original was better in my opinion.
Basically he went to his home planet and gambled body parts, so arnie had to get him a new body and in doing so that was what he got = New George if i remember right
This new guy couldn't top Ardal's performance... it's not this guy's fault, but yeah, the series should have stopped when Ardal left. This was quite funny though.
Money. The BBC were making a lot of money with it, and Ardal wanted a pay rise. But the BBC decided they would replace him instead. And now it has been axed. It if wasn't for Still Game, the BBc wouldn't have any decent comedies left!
