The very least you could do is give a wild creature a degree of respect and land and handle it with great care. Who knows , if it goes back happy , and without stress or scale damage , it might allow another angler the pleasure of catching it again. Great fish by the way , i'm going for tench tomorrow.

to me it looks like he didn't harm the fish at all. For me i'd say, catch that with lighter gear, no carp stuff. It's a true struggle when you have to fight a tench with gear you normally catch tiny fish with. Sorry, lack the english words for the gear i mean.

And to those idiots, why a unhooking mat? Tench can live hours in mud, i have seen them do it, they are tough!
