Steve Winwood is one of the greatest singers of all time. Clapton does okay, but when on stage with Winwood, he should leave the vocal tasks to Steve.
Most people are not music geeks, but it is no exaggeration to say that these two voices are completely recognizable to 99% of the earth's population.
Steve Winwood's voice, mostly due to his 80's mega-hit "Valerie", (which reached far and wide) and Eric Clapton for obvious reasons. Even if you cannot put a name to the singer, no matter who you are, you can sing the chorus "she don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie, buh-buh, buh-bum... Cocaine." You can even "buh-buh-bum" out the next riff
I saw Blind Faith at the Spectrum in Philly back in 71 or so. The shame was all the audience was shouting for Cream songs to the point Ginger Baker got pissed and said "We are NOT the Cream. We are Blind Faith!!!!" I think that waht broke up Blind Faith more than anything.
@gitarbest they have ears, but it's so full of the crap music of today that they don't know what real music is, and how artists who care about the music rather than notoriety and fame is why the music is so much better
You know what i dont think about this version of the song?
they dont have that AMAZING part where Clapton plays the "wrong" note for the solo, and it is BEAUTIFUL. You know what i mean? That is lITERALLY my favorite part of the song. I really think it's beautiful. Absolutily amazing. But, this is still good.c: .
That is Derek Trucks! and I cannot even imagine how they must feel deep inside when they ponder playing these pieces NOW with all their musical growth, their spiritual journeying, vs. when they played these pieces way back in the 70's when they first wrote and played these songs as young, green, men.
Guys like Derek Trucks are the new generation that will take this wonderful old music forward after legends like Clapton and Winwood have left the scene. Thank God some of the younger talents recognize iconic music like this, the ABB, and other wonderful gems from the 60's and 70's. It's a beautiful thing to see him up there with Clapton and Winwood.
Have had the pleasure to be in the company of the most talented people but also one the nicest guys. Steve is a genius! This was another great display of it! Vegas w/ EC was tops.
There is an album called "E.C. was here". In this among 5-6 perfect or almost perfect songs Presence of the Lord, Drifting Blues really stand out!!! Listen to it dudes, its a win-win situation...
@airshotsphotoco Derek Trucks and Doyle Bramhall-they were both with Clapton when i saw him in concert on 2007 and Robert Cray opened and sang with Clapton for an encore of"Crossroads". I saw Winwood in 2008 and Clapton and Winwood in 2009 and they were great-in my opinion Winwood has the better voice of the two, but they are equal overall musicians.
i don't like what i see, but from 0:07 to about 0:12, steve smiles so quickly and fakely -- doesn't it seem like steve doesn't like eric that much? maybe thats why they hadn't played together for the prev. 25 years.. :(
WAAAAAAH WAAAAAAH PEDAL!!!! @ 3:33.. all i gotta say is just DAMN!! one of the greatest gutiar solos in history. the 2 seconds of pause before he drops the hammer gives me chills, just waiting for the growl of the strings...k...time to hit replay
Steve Winwood still knows how to sing!!!! This man is a monster. I think Eric´s solo was not a huge solo but I almost cried when the two started singing together. This is a great moment!!!!
A very powerful preformance that got the reunion of Winwood and Clapton started off right. The Crossroads productions are some great musical feats and well produced.
I watched the Grammy's tonight, what a pathetic ritual of ass kissing each year, to try and be politically correct. But in the end they shake there ass and dance around with little class. But Eric and the guys put it all out there, they dont hide, they are virtual, if they screw up, oh well, but the sound is pure and talented, where can you find that. Where will we find it down the road....
Incredible!! I first saw steve live at Berkley Community Theater in '70' as Traffic. have been hooked on him ever since, then in 2006 I repaired his Leslie speaker at the Club Norva in Norfolk, and as I was working before the show, He came up and talked to me for about 15 minutes about music . What a prince, a genuinely down to earth guy and what chops!!!! I hope his B3 breaks down again near me.
On the Blind Faith album, only Steve Winwood sang, but in 30 years they got together again and sang duo! OMHG. I have loved both and seen their individual shows but never thought they could play together again. Really great musicans. Good Bless You Guys!
Most underrated artist on stage.... Derek Trucks. EC has so much added to his songs when he has a fantastic slide player like DT or Duane Allman (RIP). Great song. Killer band!
a song influenced by his FRIEND-BROTHER...GEORGE.. so....George he was support his friend to plays in first SOLO RECORD in Clapton...after to separated BLIND FAITH.... SOUL/ROCK....SONG. amazin' performin' WINWOOD/CLAPTON.
I'm pretty sure the story goes, they rented a huge house in the country for a month or less and recorded all the songs on the album in like 2 takes each - at least without looking it up I think that was the story. I also don't think there were many days that Ginger Baker wasn't trippin or high, specially during this recording, lol
Not saying all were high, but Ginger didn't stop, maybe the other two did
Watching Eric and Stevie, I feel like I am in the Presence of the Lord(s).........Derek adds the soulfulness of the South and Doyle, well, he's always got that SRV thing going on (but appreciated - just maybe not on these kinds of tunes - he butchered a few of Water's tunes on his Roger Water's tour - where Snowy White was much closer to a true session artist). Anyway, one hell of a performance ............... thanks for sharing!
this song isnt about being christian its about making decisions that make you a better person and how growing spiritually can open doors that were once blind to you before
@Rkilbury1983: Not true. I've read that Clapton made a brief commitment to Christianity sometime in between Cream and Blind Faith and he kicked drugs for awhile. He wrote this song during that period. That's what I've read anyways.
this song and Can't Find My Way Home are two of the most classic songs in rock history from a band that produced only one album back in 1969, Blind Faith. Good to see Steve and Eric together again!!!
@klotzstang should clarify my comment in that i meant the two who played together in Blind Faith, too bad that band didn't stay together longer. Steve and Eric complimented each other well
@BLUESMANRONCHICAGO Oh, definitley. Their recent tour proved that. But, at times, they sound sort of alike, which adds to the harmony, sort of Blues/rock Everly Brothers.
Was just at the 2010 Guitarfest in Chicago, which was fabulous, saw these guys. was wishing they would play "Presence of the Lord", I didn't realize they played it in '07. Simply beautiful!

Classic gotta see them again. although I would love to see Martin Taylor live sometime

Also Wynnwood is a church goer, the last I heard. "When you come to the end of yourself, that is where you will find God."
About 15 years ago, me and my buddy listened to "Low Spark" by Traffic three times a day for the whole summer. It was on an old album too, with lots of scratches, which of course made it just that much better. -- this footage here is awesome, thanks for posting
Steve Winwood ... just so accomplished, just so good, whether on keyboard or guitar ... plus the other twenty instruments he can play. What a guy! In a better world, there are documentaries on people like him and not reality shows about Jersy Shore bimbos and bimbo housewives.
well the real truth on that is they would make alot more money on shows like that because like 90% of america watch shit like that and because blues and rock are becoming second tier society to pop and rap hey man i feel ya it sucks
another excellent point ... how did another talented artist put it about the money factor, even gave a name for it ... The Green Maniiischi ... with the Two-Prong Crown.
i just love that hammond b 3 sound.

Not to mention Winwood's singing! I keep coming back to listen to him after 40 years.

well the real truth on that is they would make alot more money on shows like that because like 90% of america watch shit like that and because blues and rock are becoming second tier society to pop and rap hey man i feel ya it sucks
