People don't give a dam about a technical definition of an economic recession. They can't take a print-out of the "legal" definition and make purchases. People lose jobs, have trouble paying bills, etc in good economies too. I don't doubt that to those people, they think it's a depression. That is common sense but I won't vote for a guy who lies and says it's a recession.

We may still be headed for a recession. There are some bad signs. But technically we are not in a recession. Do words mean anything we want them to mean when we're making a political point?

Those who watched Wolf on CNN (Late Edition) this morning saw the Republicans stumbling and attempting to'water down'Gramms stupid remark that we are in a "mental recession." What made matters worse is that the Republican spokeswoman could not counter the fact that Obama's plan grants the middle class more tax relief than McCain's ambiguous plan. Three chief economists on the GPS program stated clearly that we are in a recession. Who is lying to the American people and trying to hoodwink them?

Yes, some people are hurting but those stats are figured into the numbers which proves we're not in a recession yet. The economy is still growing at about 2%. Hmm, let's check the accuracy of zndprophet's statement. Clinton handed Bush a real recession. Carter handed Reagan the biggest recession since the depression. The first time in over forty years that the bidget was balanced was a year after the GOP took over the House in '94. The US economy has DOUBLED since Reaganomics were enacted. You don't know much. Clinton handed Bush a recession, which was deepened by 9/11 but then we had 52 months of uninterrupted job and great GDP growth.
