This video was really helpful. As someone who has never coded before, I have been looking for a tutorial that would teach key concepts rather than jumping from the "Hello, Avatar!" script to a godawful mess of numbers and unfamiliar functions.
I thought your voice was rather good. It was clear, and not at all shrill.
I like this tutorial. It's really helpful that you have examples showing what values the different data types hold as well as explaining what values to use for colours and cube sides. The tutorial is also basic enough for most people to fully understand (though I do have programming knowledge and also know exactly what a function is).
It seems that events are functions as well, except that they are only triggered by a specific event. Like dialogue scripts in Neverwinter Nights scripts.
Very well done! I'm spending some time going through the tutorials in-world and have to say you have done a fantastic job. Thank you for putting so much time into helping us all understand scripting better. I will definitely be buying one of your books. Cheers.
Is scripting is used for making shapes, good quality shapes to sell? I heard it is? I have plans to help a friend start up a business inworld, most of the shapes are done and far superiour to anything weve found inworld but we have no idea about scripting. Is there anywhere u can point me to learn, well...anything about it. Any help would be greately appreciated, thanks. Good vid!
Yeah, you should be able to create shapes with scripts. I've clicked on objects that brings up a menu asking you to choose what you want to do. After clicking on the menu, I've seen it create an object that you can interact with. Whether the object was invisible or not, I'm not sure, but I don't see why you couldn't create an object using a script.
I'm just starting to learn how to script in SL, but I do have programming knowledge that will hopefully make this easier to learn.
