  • does the ruger offer the ability to use the lower with different uppers or did they pull a colt

  • wonder if a trigger mod will make it 1 moa. Has anyone tried it?

  • can someone tell me the difference between the SR-556C and the SR-556FB? the stocks are the same and the barrel lengths are both 16", how is the SR-556C overall length shorter?

  • @Prodigysportsman "SR-556C model is 1.75" shorter thanks to an integrally machined flash suppressor (ATF counts integrally machined flash suppressor as part of the barrel. The barrel is technically only about 14.5" long). The heavy barrel is now fluted. Ruger say these two changes drop 1/2 pound off front of the rifle."

  • The trigger needs work - bullshit, you need work.

  • Looks great for Ruger.

  • I have been thinking of building a lower, and buying an SR-556 upper for it. I have handled an SR-556 and didn't find it "too heavy." Heavy compared to other AR's...maybe, but not what I would consider a "heavy gun." To hear it from the haters on the forums though, you'd think it was made of depleted uranium-- they all complain about the weight. I'm glad to hear that you, generally very critical of weight, were not bashing the sr-556 system. The upper is a great value with all the accessories.

  • Should I train with the SR556 for SHTF or another option will be safer for me? Been a 357 mag shooter for years never shot an AR15, love Ruger.

  • I like the Ruger rifle. Looks chic including the soft case.

  • im looking to buy the sr-556 and this video helped me see pros & cons. good job man

  • I also wanted to add that the Sr 556 to me and i would think to alot of others would be a bad choice of Piston gun to buy. Due to the fact that you CAN NOT clean the piston as it is made so you CANT take it apart. No gun is going to clean its self. It is virtually impossible. Over time i think this gun will malfunction and have to be serviced. Defentially not a reliable System due to clear facts that all AR 15 platforms DI or Gas Piston Operated have to be cleaned in order to maintain function.

  • @nutnfancy, dude i love what your doing out here. Love the information. I have learned quite a few things myself from your videos. But i just wanted to clear something up as im sure you wouldnt mind at all. The Sr 556 is one of the heaviest if not the heaviest piston gun on the market. You refer to weight alot and how you prefer a lighter gun. One of the biggest cons people knock a piston gun for is the weight and most of the piston models today are only 6.8 ounces. Pretty much same as a DI.

  • so i'm still looking/deciding about buying an AR-15, and the idea of a sr556 as a singular package is a great idea. i love the compnay, the main question i have has popped up from what some reviews have been saying. after having the rifle in the project for a couple years, have you encountered carrier tilt? i, for one, would love to see an update vid on this one. keep it up!

  • How in the hell are you not stacking rounds with a 3x9 at a hundred yards?! I was stacking rounds open sites at 50 yards!

  • oh look the Marine has a high firm pistol grip...the airforce guy? nope..lol shame nutnfancy shame. just ribbin ya, calm down! :D cant wait to get done with this deployment and go shooting. w00t. keep up the good work. on my way to liking all your vids. i think i'm about half way through.

  • @thaddeusabear Thanks, thad! - Veri

  • what about bolt tilt?

  • Can someone please tell me what MOA means, and what the values of of it mean... such as 2MOA, etc. Thanks!

  • @TheColossus1987 moa is the measurement of accuracy at every 100 yds. so if you have a 1moa at 100 yds your grouping in a 1 in cirle so every 100 yds you add to your shooting add an inch to your grouping

  • 2moa...vs 2.5 by the mini14 for half the price

  • trigger's not awful, you just have no follow through

  • if the trigger is that bad, install a Timney Trigger.

  • I think if I hit someone 3 inches off with 5.56 they are dead no mater what.

  • SIG516 is a better made gun...

  • @nhfoos Nope, not even close!

  • @longerino Your right, this Ruger doesn't come close to a SIG 516.... it's lighter by 2lbs with both stripped.

  • whats better to you ruger 556 or a sig 516 sort piston ar

  • @GUNCRAZYINATL SIG 516

  • @GUNCRAZYINATL If you want a chromed out bad ass gun, with a machine gun grade barrel, and tons of add-ons, go with the Ruger, much better investment!

  • Hey @nutnfancy, have you shot the sig sauer 516 yet? if not could you do a vid on it? Thanks bro. LOVE THE VIDS...Keep up the ggod work

  • ive seen the ruger sr 556 fail with cheap ammo, I have the sig 516 , and it eats any ammo i feed it. I think the Sig is a much better built rifle. It can take anything.

  • @MrPibbs28 the sig 516 is like the ruger sr556 but better. that's why i bought one instead. plus it's cheaper. seeing a vid on it would be nice

  • @MrPibbs28 I just bought the SS 516 if its any consolation, even though your comment is from 6 months ago haha. Anyways, fantastic gun, EXCELLENT craftmanship from Sig as their first AR15 platform, full mil spec, CHF barrel chrome lined, etc.. If youre still on the edge of whether or not to get one Id so go for it, you WONT be disappointed. Cleaning is as simple as a normal AR15 minus the carbon deposits on the BCG, and the short rod(piston system) comes out as a whole from the front of the gun!

  • Just bought one, precisely the kind of review I wanted to see. I've not yet fired it, but I agree on the weight, it is a monster, but the massive barrel is beneficial. I own Glock pistols exclusively, the primary reasons being fewer moving parts, availabilty of spares for ALL internals & that I can easily detail strip & conduct most repairs on my own, if needed. What I hate about Ruger's SR-556 construction is that their designers think they have to 'stake' everything with roll pins. STOP IT!

  • Really liked the way you review - very informative and helpful. You mentioned that the Ruger advised against removing the rails and you have to use special tools to do so. My question is how do you replace the transfer rod spring(s)? If I do buy a 556, I would think some time down the road I would have to replace the springs or is that not an issue?

  • 3:24 thats one BIG scope

  • 100% Made in USA

  • I am about to purchase an AR and i have decided between the SR556 and the Rock River arms entry tactical. I would really love to have your thoughts on it, which one do you think is best?

  • im buying a piston ar soon.. im pretty set on the sig 516... but im also considering the smith & wesson m&p piston system.... of those 2 systems what would u say is better

  • as a begginer ar-15 (price out of the equation) would u recommend this or the S&W M&P 15 M.O.E.

  • @Bama15Baseball At my local gun dealer, the S&W M&P 15 M.O.E, is less than half the price of the SR556, it is between 600 and 700 new. I notice you have bama in your user name, and i am from alabama too. so if you are anywhere close to huntsville Larry's Pistol and Pawn, has REALLY GOOD prices. The SR is between 1400 and 1500

  • nutnfancy....new Ruger SR-556C= 7.4 lbs. Weight problem solved! You could say the SR-556C went to Jenny Craig.

  • @DontComeToMyHouse I considered the 'C' model with a fluted barrel. BUT - instead of a thread flash hider they've machined the flash suppressor from the material of the barrel & I think that really sucks arse. I went with the SR556FB model (original design) solely because the flash hider was removable. I might want a sound suppressor on it at some point, after all! It'd be a perfect rifle if fluted AND threaded AND not a roll-pinned handguard/inaccessible op rod/spring...

  • When i was in the army i have seen soldiers group their rounds during zeroing about the size of a fifty cent coin. But keep in mind its military grade ammo, and the trigger is much better. Thats not tyipical and mileage will be differant. On the other hand when i look at your groupings i see that trigger squeeze is a problem. so i would say throw in a new trigger. You should see less flyers i do agree with you that the trigger needs some work. Try some green tip 65gr rounds to.

  • Two well done vids...Really enjoyed and more importantly, learned something from..Thank You.

  • Nutnfancy, How do you afford these weapons and ammunition? do you buy them yourselves do you rent them/get good discounts, how do you do it?

  • 50 yards with an iron sight, the SA80 LA85 A2 does the same accuracy from the kneeling position. with a SUSAT it does the same grouping at least from 100 meter standing unsupported position. So I say again, either crap firer, crap ammo, or both.

  • is smell carrying a kershaw dive knife at 15:37? if so thats wierd cus I was just trying my kershaw dive in that same spot on almost the same vest vertical upside down. lol but nice vid i was gunna pick this rifle up but after hearing i cant get the extra mags till im LEO i opted to wait they should offer extra 10 rounders for us crazy californians. dam california laws

  • How much are one of those sexy little badger charging handle latches running about??

  • A little breeze 10-20mph should not affect accuracy at 100yards

  • how fast can a semi-auto gun fire? it looked like full auto to me at the end of the vid

  • @Zocratezknows as fast as you can pul the trigger :)

But that is nowhere near as fast as full auto lol

  • i've used 2000 tiger surplus ammo and no problems =) few jams here and there but it was my fault shooting too quickly haha

  • Who makes that light mount?

  • i wonder what the sr 556 in 6.8spc would be like..... accuracy, etc.

  • better trigger would help with grouping.

  • PMC is match ammunition? Oh, come now...

  • cool gun and nice music

  • hey nutn when you do your accuracy testing at 50 and 100 yards you tested the cheap wolf stuff and the okay PMC and white box. i know thats what most dudes will be using and can afford, but why dont you just test like 1 or 2 boxes of the MATCH grade stuff so we can see what the gun can really do? thanks

  • I wish Ruger would make a 20" barrel version, that would hands down be my AR of choice.

  • out mof the box, it can not be beat. you can put it in the dirt and pull it out shooting. it is a great weapon for those who can not make up their minds between an AK 47 and an AR. It was my chose.

  • Thank you, I was thinking about the gas piston. Don't want it now b/c of its weight.

    pr4runner

  • hey nutn should do a review of an ar with the new bravo company usa gunfighter charging handle. He may like it more than the badger version.

  • can you use the cmmg 22 kit in the sr 556

  • @liuto100 i was wondering the same thing did you ever get an answer?

  • @liuto100 Yes, turn your gas system off, all the way off (Or you will wreck your CMMG kit)

And then just replace the bolt like in any other AR

  • I,m looking into this gun now. Any follow ups almost a year later? From what I have read with the right ammo and regular cleaning its a great choice. Thanx nutn

  • How was the CQB shooting with the full rife? I ask because I have the choice between that and the SR 556c. I plan to do a wide range and was wondering if you feel the 1/2 lb and 1.75" will make a large difference. I don't have the option to handle it before I purchase it due to my location. Would love your input. (Great video by the way!)

  • @SGTKOHN Tough choice, They just released a 6.8 version to, I'm definitely going to get one of the 3.

  • hey nutn, where are you from? looks like home! i live in new mexico? i'm thinking of getting this rifle! i've heard nothing but good things about this gun. BEAUTIFUL PIECE!

  • @jayinspain No Jay, sorry, he doesn't. But if you keep looking, I'm sure you'll find someone that will. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • thats sick

  • Will this bad boy hold STANAGs? Wouldnt want to have to compromise my arsenal.

  • nutn would you tell me what the name on the charge handles I hate the one on my sr556 i need a new one keep up the good work on the vid the are made very well

  • Awesome review. Just got a trijicon reflex on my SR...it's a great combo!

  • Does anybody have any info about torture testing of the SR-556? With alot of companies, especially with the piston AR-15's, they love to show off how you can bury it in dirt, cover it in mud, submerge it in water, then get right back to shooting. Obviously, this is overkill and not something anybody should do intentionally to their rifle, but I'm curious to know how the SR-556 holds up to the likes of HK416 or LWRC M6A2 and other piston AR's in torture tests.

  • Fancy boy, nice pitch trying to sell that Ruger but accuracy sucks!!! Why don't you compare it to a surplus Romanian bitten up Kalashnikov. I bet the AK shoots better.

You should be able to skeezee a .9 .8 MOA of a good AR otherwise toss it in the trash. Just another piston actuated rock thrower.

I bet ya a slingshot is more accurate or maybe you just don't know how to shoot that is another strong possibility.

    LOL!!!

  • What does MOA mean?!?

  • Should have shown the damage carrier tilt causes. I'm 100% positive the receiver extension tube shows signs of the bolt slamming into it. If anyone wants to build a reliable AR15, look into the BCM middy uppers or get a Colt.

  • how do u afford this

  • My DPMS Panther Classic 16 chews up Brown Bear like none other! Great ammo!

  • i have got brown bear ammo and ....

    good

    i haven'd got any problems...

    i shot the target death...

  • bear is the same as wolf...try it on your rifle, if it works, have fun with it.

  • what do you think of brown bear ammo

  • I got my sr 556 at the gun show in houston tx I love this gun some much my wife gave my sr556 nick name she called it baby I lol

  • Finally got out to the range with my SR-556 on Saturday. Kinda disappointed at the fact it ruins my casings. When a round is loaded from the mag it 'dents' the tapered part of the casing which renders it 'unreloadable'. I called Ruger tech support and the technician said 'Thats the way that gun is'. I wish I would have know that before buying it, whoops.

  • I hope Nutn knows you're not supposed to span an optic over a non-monolithic mount. You can damage an optic, or atleast a mount by doing that.

  • @jdfarmerboy2640 Maybe in the Airsoft world, why don't you do a video showing us the downfalls of using a optic spanning over a non monolithic rail. I am interested to see your data points that back up your statement

  • I'm not insulting him- even he says hes not the end all expert. Here's the reasoning; a handgaurd is never on the same plane as is on an upper receiver. They move in different directions, which can bend or twist optics. Think before you speak.

  • I never stated that you were insulting anyone, I will restate my point as you did not really provide any real data on your reply, I don't know if you actually own real steal but I suggest you take a closer look at the system and again I ask you to state some valid points backing up your claim your comment seems like one from a person that plays airsoft or does not have real experience in carbine rifles

  • Okay, here we go..Why do you think we have monolithic uppers? For that extra quarter inch of space between the handgaurd and the upper? No. The reasoning behind it is that you can span a single optic over it. A ring on the reciever, and one on the handgaurd. If you're using a tight tolerance ring (say a PRI or a LaRue), then the small amount of movement between the handgaurds and receiver is enough to damage an optic. If it weren't for this, there'd be no point in a mono. Think before speaking.

  • @TNPviewer whats wrong with airsoft? its a great mil-sim. but your right alot of cod people and airsofters dont know jack about the real steel. im almost 18 and would love a gun which is why i educate myself, which tends to make video games gay because they ruin the performance of guns

  • @jdfarmerboy2640 LOL really? I'm guessing you don't use qaulity products like Larue or Daniel Defense rails. Stick to airsoft....

  • @eleSpoon You're wrong. If there is no room for optic mounts to give, that will strain the optic. It can throw you off several MOA. Also, your rail doesn't cause it. If its drop-in, it will just move that way. If it's free float, your delta ring causes it. Stick to trolling in the forums.

  • @wizemanful Really how about you show us some video DATA that proves your theory instead of pulling statements out of thin air? Oh thats right you can't..stick to trolling youtube

  • @eleSpoon Actually, it's just common sense. It's impossible for anything to be perfectly aligned. I wouldn't think you would need some big colorful photos to understand that. Again, troll elsewhere.

  • @wizemanful You sure know how to "troll"..

  • Check out the Benelli MR1MSRP $1299 CALIBER 5.56 x 45mm NATO (.223 Rem.) hope for a review of this GUN !!

  • thanks for the review...just came across this gun...was looking into an HK mr556, a RRA entry tactical, and a colt 6940. I think I just fell in love with the Ruger.

  • great review. i also grew up on ruger and love this gun. 5*

  • Great review! Very helpful.

Thanks! I love what I'm seeing from this gun.

Still a little pissed about Ruger's position on the old assault weapons ban, maybe we can make up.

  • what dose MOA mean?

  • MOA means Minute of Angle. Basically how much drop the bullet will do at a certain distance. Mostly measured at 1 MOA and 100yrds

  • @pbkid01 I meant 1 MOA AT 100yrds

  • @817riverparkmusic There are 60 minutes of angle (MOA) in every degree, so one MOA equals 1/60 of a degree. One MOA will subtend approximately 1 inch at 100 yards. If you shoot a group at 100 yards and can put a 1 inch diameter circle around the group, then you've shot a 1 MOA group. A 1 MOA group will be 2 inches in diameter at 200 yards, 3 inches at 300 yards and so on.

  • What kinda light is he using on his RRA?

  • I want to purchase a Burris speed dot 135 but dont know if i should choose 3 moa or 11 moa please advise. Also do i need and additional gear for mounting? I have a Ruger SR 556. Thank you..

  • Ruger makes some good stuff. I have a hard time even considering their stuff though, after hearing about the Ruger Letter. (I had to wikipedia it to confirm, but look it up.)

    Good videos, Nutnfancy!

  • I bought one about a month ago for $1500. I love it. $1500 is about where pricing should be. The two Troy front and back sights alone are $200-230. The quad rail is easily $200, the rail covers are $10 each and the 3 magazines it ships with are $45. Add in a piston system and $1500 is a great price.

  • so how do you like that burris red dot and is there a review of it?

  • yes dad im ready lol sounds a lil fimmed

  • fimmed? -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • miffed sorry like agitated not mad or anything

  • Oh yeah probably!! LOL! He's probably only heard his Dad say THAT 100's of times. hehe -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • i see said the blind man lol

  • @COMANCHY3 nutnfancy needs to run 5.56 nato ammo not .223 because there is a big difference in chamber pressure effects the moa hence sr 556 is going to be at its best with 5.556 nato ammo, if you want to try to wring out a better moa than 1 1/2 , handload them .

  • This gun is awesome just bought one Thanksgiving weekend. I had no problems with it and shot close to 200 rounds through it. Very clean and it's a good deal for your money.

  • I have to admit, I'm thinking very hard about getting this gun. Looks like what I'm looking for on an AR 15 style rifle. Love what I'm seeing so far...of course I really want to get my hands on one before I make my final decision. One draw back for me though is the non-compatibility with .22 LR Conversion kits. I'd really like to be able to swap out the bolt with something like a cmmg or similar kit. Anyone know if this is in the works for this gun?

  • Just took mine out to the range tonight, had to put down a laser printer that has given me trouble in the past!

    Love My SR556 !!!!!

  • @longerino haha sounds like something my dad would have done if he had a gun with him. He settled for chucking our ink guzzler off the deck.

  • @longerino thats what im going to be doing once the snow is gone lol

  • after you through on the quad rail, hand guards, pistol grip, 6 position stock, bird cage suppressor, and all the chrome parts, ohh and the flip up troy battle sights, I think the AMMC will end up costing a lot more.

  • great vid keep up the good work

  • Ruger needs to get a 6.8 spc out into the market. NOW

  • So True!

  • Are you going to do a review on the Robinson XCR? I would be very interested in that gun

  • Go out and check one out in person, you'll see the quality is there and the extras this rifle comes with are great! I checked one out and would up purchasing one a week later.

  • Nice video!

Do you think Ruger will market a full-size version or one without the tacticool rails?

  • just got back from the "gun shop" to man handle this beast... i have to say i'm getting one.....i'd love to say i'm getting ten, but one will do for now.

  • Part 1 & Part 2 were great, Thanks for putting this Ruger fan on track for a new purchase.

  • as a guy on a forum said "anything that shits where it eats is gonna have reliability problems"

AK47 gas piston weapons for life.

  • children

  • good videos. very professional.

  • I like the Tribal House you got at the beginning:)

  • Peace man not war!!! You have to save the animals man!

  • @christopheye you do have to protects all of our animals. mature isnt something to try to tame we need to live with nature and not try to destroy it, but we still need guns to destroy the destroyers

  • Ace review. Sounds like a realy good gun. Expensive, but eh, you get what you pay for right?

If i ever get the chance of getting a tac carbine of the Stoner family, this (or similar) is probably what i would get. Not saying DI is inferior, got no experience with those so i can´t judge. But i have handled piston guns a lot, so i know what they can do and i know how to clean them.

Hands-on time and experience. That´s all there is to it.

  • Yeah...Rounds are holy :)

  • actually man you want to keep the barrel pointed down. if it is pointed up and you have an accidental discharge you don't know where the round will end up going.

  • ehh.. np man, but im just saying iv always been taught to keep it up, unless its raining. iv been told so many times i guess its just simple logic to me.

  • yea but pointed down you have debrie (i cant spell it) and bullet richoshet

  • unless you are standing on a rock the bullet doesn't richoshet anywhere. i know i've had a gun go off accidently standing in a group of people. scared the shit out of everyone, but no one was hurt. the only debris is a little dirt flying around. if you fire a bullet in the air it continues on a ballistic path and can severely injure or kill someone.

  • hmmm true but its is still dangerous in loose ground such as gravel, but its true that when fired in the air the bullet still is lethal

  • that did it for me im buying one

  • Nutn,

There are a lot of us out here that really enjoy watching

your videos and your expertise from the iphone, however

like gsteal, I have been unable to watch several of your

later videos. Could it be the format they are being posted

    in?

  • Nutn there are a lot of us out here that watch your videos on an iphone, posts like these we can not longer watch, it is the HD format causing the problem?

  • another great vid nutn..

What video camera do you use.. it looks awesome.

  • THATS A GOOD CAMERA

  • Outside has GREAT graphics.

  • Great review, Ive been looking into getting one of these myself and now I think it is for sure.

Nice switch to HD also nutn, makes it easier to watch.

  • I wanted a LWRC M6 or a Patriot Arms and ended up buying this rifle for $1500. You can't beat the price for the product. I was also looking at several DI rifles like the Bushy or the M&P S&W - but the SR556 and it's price point, and what you get with it - out performed them. I couldn't resist. You'll love it period.

  • Nice vid man

  • I was one of the subscribers that asked for a review on this gun and you delivered. Great job!

  • I agree nutn i shot about a 2 moa at 150yards also with the pmc ammo using a red dot with the ruger sr. my friend had the opportunity to test shoot the bushmaster acr and he said it is considerably lighter than the ruger, but your going to pay mucho dinero for it.

  • yeah...id rather buy a set of dumbbells and a sr556 than a overpriced peice of plastic

  • yeah but ur paying for a mil spec with the bushmaster. i don't believe that ruger has a mil spec on the sr 556.

  • Another great review Nutn. I know its tough to rear bag an AR w/6-pos, but anything you can do to stabilize the rear is gonna help cut down horizontal stringing.

  • Why can't I view your videos in Iphone anymore? Did you change something?

  • NutnFancy!!

You need to get your hands on a Tavor21!!!

    i would enjoy that

  • can you use the CMMG .22 conversion kit for piston AR's like this?

  • not without taking out the op rod that ruger suggests you dont do or else modifying the conversion unit with a space for the op rod.

  • killerss!!

  • unless you sensless and repesaly beat your son, witch i cant picture you doing, i think you son is quite lucky i wish i was your son and im 23 lol.

my dad only took me shooting once

  • dose tha marines use any AR-15z?

    can some one plz explain

  • An AR-15 is the civilian equivalent of the military's M-4/M-16 family of rifles. They are basically the same, except for a couple differences in the trigger, barrel, etc. The Marines, to my knowledge, still utilize the M-16 to a great extent, with some M-4s going to specific individuals. The regular (active) Army basically uses M-4s. They all use a similar round. The military designation is 5.56mm, the civilian, .223. There is a slight difference, but it's not important for our purposes.

  • for those citing MOAs at longer distances... wouldnt a HK G3 variant using the 7.62x51mm/308 round perhaps be better?

I'd luv a Nutnfancy review of a G3 variant (perhaps the SR9). Also some info (from TNPers also) on the "roller-delayed blowback" vs. DI and Piston systems

  • value was underrated. Troy rails and sights alone roughly $500 in aftermarket products, that alone drops the rest of the rifle down to the cost of a "regular" AR. throw in a chrome lined barrel($50 upgrade), chrome lined bolt BCG&Bolt( $50-70 upgrade), hogue grip(25$), 3 magpul p-mags($50). In reality paying $900 dollars for a bad ass piston AR. Only thing to do is throw on an optic, improve trigger, and maybe get a "better" stock and a light. Great review on an excellent rifle!!!

  • Smokin !!

  • watz tha actual diffrence between an AR-15 nd a M16?

  • Wiki and google are great resources, use em. God bless

  • Does any one know how much i could pick this up for?
