@lai2ke4 I am looking at buying one of these for $175 off Craig's list tomorrow. I want it for 78s. Is this the USB one with the built in phono stage? How do you like it?
MGM Records, the music division of the legendary Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio, was started for Judy Garland, whose 78 rpm singles and album soundtracks had been huge sellers for Decca Records.Once Judy got the ball rolling for MGM Records, the floodgates of musical soundtracks with actor/singers, as well as hit recording artists, poured out thousands of releases. Interesting to note that MGM Records started with Judy in 1946 and ended in 1975 with international disco sensation, Miss Gloria Gaynor.
Yes it is a very pretty song... she has a beautiful voice. Unlike so many of the songs of today you can understand each word as she sings it. I real pleasure to listen to!!!!
nope not at all =} but can i ask you one question =D did you ever have issues with a hum with this table? because i saw some of the reviews on amazon and there we're a few people that said it had that hum issue?
The table has hum problem with grado cartridges. The reason is that grado deos not shield its cartridges at all. Apart from that, I am not aware of it. One thing needs to be mentioned is that this table does not have a ground wire. So if you don't use its own pre-amp, it may be an issue.
Should have done your research a bit better, I got mine from J&R for $169.99. (may have gone up a bit, but its not over $200.00) But whatever your pay for this turntable, its worth as much as the Technics it mocks. I have one, and love it. Check out my video review on it.
For its price, I think this is very good with decent sound quolity. I like it very much. However, this is a DJ turntable. It is no comparison to Techniques 1200 of course. It got three speeds, which is very convenient if you have 78's. The stock cartridge is good, but if you would like better performance, I would recommend shure M97xe. Remember that if you want to play 78's, you need to have 78's compatible cartridges such as Shure M78s.
i gotta say, having the AT PL120 myself, i am loving it. I use the stock cartrige and have noticed that if you want better sound, you need to look for higher end receivers, speakers, not a cartidge.
The stock one deliveres plenty of pure, uncompressed analog sound, and as fro the Technics 1200's, they are about the same quality, maybe a bit more mids, and of course, 3 times as much. as for quality of the actual table itself, they are about tied.
That's the little downside of the Technics. Doesn't read old 78's. Even if 78's are pretty rare...
Thanks for the vid anyway, I've never saw and heard a 78 like this before...

This was the first record I bought way back when

How much weight are you using on that cart? I am guessing you need to have it to like 5 grams to get it to track right at 78RPM.

@TheMaxx111 Not at all, 3 grams are enough for this table.

Great sound of that old 78! I always thought Jane Powell's voice had a vulnerable quality that was perfect for this song. No one ever sang it better.

can you scratch on this turn table???
cookboy911 2 years ago
I never did
lai2ke4 2 years ago
you can, but I can't imagine why you would want to scratch a 78rpm record...
Zeldafoo9 2 years ago
@cookboy911 Yes, you can, because it has a direct-drive motor.

i just bought a 2008 vinyl record and it needs to played at 45 rpm do i need a separate cartridge for 45 rpm?
dieseluvin 3 years ago
NO, for 45rpm, you don't need anything special
lai2ke4 3 years ago
Don't even try that. Grado is not compatible with this one. It is not shielded and will cause a lot of hum.

thnx for the advice bro
