Eating with your hands is not disgusting to the person who knows what he's doing with his hands. You will find the cultures who use their fingers as utensils have better hygiene standards with regards to washing, using etc.

And about our English, Brits have accents, Southern Ameicans have accents, New Yorkers, Australians, etc. Whats wrong with that? Due to our diverse groups and British influence we have a unique accent and way of speaking called "Singlish." And its not barbaric, its adds to the experience eating with hands. Its the traditional way to eat Malay and Indian food.
