  • you guys need an impact wrech

  • Hows the old diesel going now? Have you managed to sort the starting difficulties?

My old Petter diesel was very hard to start but now it's running on a pump set, the load has de glazed the bore and it now starts with a couple of swings.

Mabey your engine just needs a run on load for an hour or two.

  • Hi, Have you got new rings for the engine?? It needs more compression, and then it will start better. Have a look see on my profile and see the Southern Cross diesel get searted up, there is anouther video of the first start up in 40 years on engineteens profile.

Cheers and good luck with your engines.

  • @TheEnginecollector Hi thanks for you comment.

It has new rings, sleave, new valves and the seats lapped in. I dont know its compression at the moment but it probably could be higher.

  • Give it a good long run to bed the rings in. You did hone the bore before you put them in didn't you?

  • @steamwally Yes it was sleaved and honed.

  • that should go on a go cart lol

  • i would put that on a go cart

  • putt putt coff sputter bang

  • This was made before i got those. From the name id say it was made in Coventry England.

I think it was used on fishing boats.

  • hhahhahah classic video. I like the bit where your old man had a go!

with my little eperience with deisel's try cracking an injector to get the air out or put a petrol soaked rag over the air intake

it is a deisel isn't it? or why the glow plugs?

  • Hehe yea i think he liked it,

Yea I now have it running (not perfectly) but the pump leaks so i haev to bleed i every time as all the diesel leaks outs

Tis a a and the glowplug was hard to get the right voltage.

  • Don't use too much of that Start Ya Batsard (Ether) !!!!!!! Not good for the rings, it will cause lose of compression sooner or later. Nice work, wish all kids here in the U.S. had the same intrest !!!!!!!

  • Yea i know now. Now i use a propane torch :D

  • lead wire is the best way to test the clearance

it is a bit slow as you have to reassemble the engine with wire in it then bump the engine over one compression stroke

then take it to bits and measure the wire thickness and fit shims to alter the height of the cylinder

these are made of brass and are about 5 thou of an inch thick each

you should find your engine did have some fitted on crankcase studs under the cylinder barrel when you stripped it

congrats on a detailed video collection

  • Thanks iv gotten it running using a propane torch to heat air going into the cylinder.

  • i have an extensive collection of coventry victor engines you can message me for any help

    your problem is comression

when you reassembled the engine the clearance between the cylinder head and piston is critical if it is too large starting will be difficult

try squirting a little oil into the intake to seal the piston

in your cylinder head you found a small hole where you fitted a glow plug this where the oil comes in from an oil injector that would have been fitted when the engine was made

  • Hey thanks so much for the advice. The glowplug was leaking so i made a plug to fit in there (see the most recent CV video).

I have tried squirting some oil into the intake but still not enough compression.

I will test the clearence tomorrow but i also think that the head gasket is leaking as diesel is getting onto it. The manual explains how to test the clearance using lead wire do you know of a better way?

Have you ever heard of one of these heads warping?

  • you can by start ya bastard at mitre 10 stores for about 12 dollars

  • ETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  • this is like waiting for the next lord of the rings to come out.

    god dammit!!! lol

  • hahaha or may be the next harry potter?? Iv made the frame so i gotta upload that video then theres a weird clunking noise iv got to sort out.

  • can you actually get a new glow plug for that thing? or just rely on start ya bastard lol.

  • I am trying to get a new plug but at the moment it will be start ya bastard

  • They don't have glow plugs!

  • Geez i know that now!! where were you about 1 month ago!!!!

  • HAHA!

  • Nice Video man....!!! I give you a 50 Star rating for your Efforts... Keep trying Mate...

  • sounded great, when you got it running.

  • I want some Start Ya Bastard!

  • get some its the cheaper version of aerostart.

  • it might be alittle out of timing or your injector needs replacing

  • well yea i dont really know it seems ok but i dont know.

  • awesome it ran!! the new trolly thing should be heaps better. must be a pain having it moving around while your trying to start it. Big pitty about the glow plug. do you think you will beable to get a new 12 volt one that will fit?

  • i dont know... im going to look in some diesel shops to see if they can help me.

  • damn that was fken close!

that sounded so nice though when it was just about to start

that start ya bastard stuff works really well on briggs and starttons aswell

thanks for the upload man great to see the engine puffin

  • wow that was cool.

  • oh damn! that was so close. but they sound great dont they!

  • yea cant wait till it finally does run.
