thats right youtube can help to boost a career. we have new ways with internet now to make known young talents. but here we don t have any more a talent but a real pianist !!!!
You have an amazing talent, but I feel that in some places in this piece you are rushing and not putting feeling and emotion into Chopin's work. This particular piece deserves the strength and power that you give it, but it also needs some kind of expression in it, too, especially at 4:10. Please keep playing, we all know that you will be fabulous and the whole world will listen to you and say, "This boy has real talent."
Extroardinary talent, but he does not capture the magic this piece has to offer. Perhaps he will with time. For example at 6:11, this passage is probably the 2nd most important passage of the piece, as it sets up the most important, yet he tries to get through it as fast as he can, with absolutely no dynamics. It feels like he plays this piece at FF through the whole song. George will excel, but this isn't the piece to do it with.
Your techniques are outstanding. I would like you to, however, have a look at the girl called Aimi Kobayashi of your age playing the same piece, but a totally different interpretation. She was invited to play in Poland to celebrate Chipin's 200 years and she will be playing at Carnegie Hall soon. Anyway, all the best for your future.
I can't find words to describe what I've just experienced here! Some of the most astounding Chopin playing I have ever heard -- bar none. One expects pianism of this ilk from a Horowitz or a Rubinstein -- not from a young boy. When are kids going to wake up and begin to realize the truth in that old adage: "How do I get to Carnegie Hall?" PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!
@kraftpr I've experienced quite a different experience from this video to the video of Aimi Kobayashi, playing exactly the same piece. You might want to check her out :)
I read in newspaper that u have won the Champion in Thomas and Evonne Cooper International Competition. Congratulations n my boy is still struggling with it...
I have heard many pianists through the years, and I say emphatically that George is the best ever. I have heard Horowitz and Rubinstein and Ashkenazy, and George will one day be known as the best there ever was! Bravo George!
Just extremly talented and a lot of practise. Just unbelievable you can see he`s so musical in his playing. I am nearly 18 and it will take some time to be able to play this Scherzo, but when the time will come i will see how my interpretation will be different from his.
Jeorge Li plays really very well, It reminds me everywhere of the playing of my son, he plays this piece as well, but later than George, his name is Oscar Yang, Jeorge knows him well already, they are good friends. George sent a lot of his clips to Oscar, we watched with very much pleasure. I support you ! Great talents need support! And we also thank people as you who really love music, as well as give so much support to those very talented young musicians.

Very nice george. It is very hard to interpret Chopin purely because he was a very moody man and as you can tell, his pieces reflect that. Great job of this piece. Chopins pieces are not truly meant for young people, however, you truly do a sensational job of interpreting this.
Oh my God, look at the emotion. There are a lot of children out there who can play hard piano pieces, but so few of them seem to feel the music as much as George does here. Brilliant!
How could one not instantly love this miraculously gifted child? At this tender age he plays with good taste, intense lyricism and what the Germans call "Schwung."
He never plays notes -- he always thinks in phrases.
In a few places I'd like to hear a little more restraint building up to the climaxes, but that will come in time.
Hi George, I think you are one of the most exciting young pianists around today. This piece is one of my faves and I usually listen to Arthur Rubinstein's or Cecile Licad's superb interpretations of Chopin's piano works. Your interpretation of this piece was awesome. Bravissimo to you, George !
hey i have a question, being a pianist myself, do you ever find a hint of nerves before or while your playing, i get nervous before and loosen up once i start playing. thanks, great performance
Com'on, judges would be subjective at some point, don't upset, 2nd place nothing to be ashamed of. The thing that is important is that you really enjoy his playing.
I would like to know and congratulate the amazing mentor who is nurturing and guiding this phenomenal talent. Who is the virtuoso teacher who can produce such a virtuoso performer!
i just can not believe how good geroge is playing! he plays very well.keep up the awesome work geroge! i execpt fingertips and etc. in the next songs posted here on Youtube! how many hours you practie in a day?
George, what you need now is just to grow up. As you grow up, you will experience many different things in life. Death, happiness, luck, funny episodes of life, etc. Therefore, when you play these corresponding parts, you can feel the music. I am not saying that you played this scherzo badly. This contains great dynamics and your personal style. What i am saying is that you should play MORE music than notes. You should know what i mean soon.
Presumably George Li will get EVEN better; you don't get as good as he already is without enjoying artistic growth. But your simple-minded psychobabble is way off base. Young people are very emotional and expressive------think of a passionate toddler having a tantrum for example! The trick is to not lose touch with emotions as you grow older. Li is already playing very expressively-----way more than mere notes and no doubt will continue to develop expressive control even without your "help"
No matter how many of George's performance I see I am always astonished by his mature musicianship. Now I know why I didn't continue with piano when I was young. I never had his gift.
but asians are truly part of the smarter half of the human race. The smoking rates in Asia are much lower than on other continents. See, we WOULD be that smart, but we made dumb decisions and decided to kill our posterity's brains as well as our own, and we still make those bad decisions today. Sad.
but yeah, this kid is amazing. I got to see him perform live on From The Top, it was sooooooo awesomenessness.
I'm Asian, so think in no way that I'm trying to be racist here.
You're basing that our race is intelligent off the fact that we smoke less? That's stupid.
The STEREOTYPE is that students work harder in the United States and abroad, but in truth probably 50% of Asians are illiterate and work on some farm in some remote field in China/Vietnam/what have you.
sorry, sorry, it was a bad generalization. I know about all the illiteracy rates because my brother's been to China and he's told me, and a lot of Chinese people come to my school saying they don't know any characters. I'm sure that's just barely a taste of the truth, but I don't know nearly as much about China as my brother.
But Chinese people DO work harder than Americans on average. That's not a stereotype. Americans are just about the laziest and most careless people in the world.
oh, and i also give you credit because I know how much harder it is if your hands aren't full size. we mess up (very little in your case) in the same spots
i started learning this about a month ago. i love it so much i've almost got it down. but i can't believe I'm getting some tips on how to play it from a thirteen year old haha. very nice interpretation
great job! i haven't played this before, but all i know is that its a hard piece. who cares about little mistakes? everyone makes mistakes.
"no-piano week kid time". :D sometimes, my brothers and i get a no-piano day kid time after performances. yellowstone is awesome! so's the canyons. and las vegas. lol.
This young man HAD to WIN! Very talented. No matter how much I practice I will never reach his aptitude for interpretation even if I did get the technique. Especially to play under pressure like this. Outstanding.
What a profound interpretation. Your use of rubato and silence just left the air thick with sound even in the silence. I hope you win the competition. Please consider using the far left soft pedal in the pianissimo parts you played. You get 5 stars from me.
Bravo George.
Bravo! Have a wonderful time...you are definately an artist! You are a great talent and thank you for sharing your recital with us! Bravo! Beautifully played piece!
if only more kids were as bright as this then our future would be bright.
