The Tibetans were fearful of Britain, so they always rebuffed British offers. As a Westerner, I'd like to take a stance here against hypocrisy, just to emphasize that there's no moral basis for condemning China while yet defending the rule of the Dalai Lama.
He lorded over a harsh feudal system that treated the vast majority of its serfs practically not any better than slaves - a theocratic regime run under a medieval code. People had their eyes gouged out.
Those facts speak for themselves.

You don't see an Indian national or Italian or Mexican, unhappy with anything in his or her own country go seek assistance from another country to attack his own country. Its like asking your neighbour to attack your parents just because you don't fully agree with them. That's the problem with you Zang ethnic minority (Tibetan) of Xizang, China. Whatever grievances you have with your motherland, China, the doors to peaceful discussions has always been open to your leaders.
