I like to point out the parallel between Denethor and Theoden. Both lost a son to the enemy. Both had been manipulated into only seeing darkness. But while Denethor decides to burn himself before his city burns Theoden rides one last time full knowing this'll be his death. Both committed suicide one way or the other but Theoden kept his honour.

As far as I know of history, ancient noble-warriors found it much more honorable to die in battle, especially in a great one like the battle of the Fields of Pelennor. If you have ever played Halo (Or read the books, most information comes from them) then you would have noticed that the Sanghelli (Elites) were very much like the people of Rohan.

could someone clarify something for me. I heard that this battle was based on the Seige of Vienna (1683) where the ottomans were trying to take the city of Vienna. The ottomans nearly took the city until a polish relief force came later and overlooked the battle on top of a hill. Then the siege was broken when 20,000 hussars charged down and broke the ottoman line.

The thing is, this battle is really similar to the Helms deep battle so im wondering which one its based off of.

I was saying 36 orcs somehow survived being trampled by all those horses and disliked the video.. but only 250 were used in the film according to the behind the scenes footage. And yea Theoden wanted as many men as he could but obviously some had to stay behind incase Edoras/Rohan came under siege.
