I know this is Martin Short! Why wouldn't I know this is Martin Short? Is that what you think? That I don't know Martin Short? I grew up watching Martin Short, of course I'd know Martin Short! It's so funny that you would think I didn't know Martin Short! Don't you think? ...and sad, sad that you would think something so outrageous! Of course this is Martin Short!
This is the Showtime special. It was the best! Jackie Rogers Jr., Irving Cohen, Montgomery Clift,. I have it on VHS tape somewhere. We'd love to watch it and crack up!
Even Checy Chase (jerk that he is - met him once, total jerk) says he's the funniest man in the world, as seen on "chevy chase on martin short". He's just a natural - a pure natural...
I agree wholeheartedly with trojanpants (lol on the nam, btw) but Martin Short is by far the most underrated, underexposed, undercredited, and underused comedian in history. Don't believe me? delve into his body of work - from SCTV through SNL, Jimny Glick, Three Amigos, etc., I'd say between him and Albert Brooks. Absolutely hysterical if you undestand the humor...

It was horrible how McCarthy persecuted people. Why, after the Democrats forced him to release names of people and endlessly hounded his aid as a homosexual, he said "what if I said those things about your aid" to another Senator. The Senator, who had endlessly attacked and belittled McCarthy's aid shouted "HAVE YOU NO SHAME!"

I wonder if people realize McCarthy had nothing to do with the HUAC or the Hollywood Communist backlash. That happened after Communists in Hollywood tried to blackmail people into making pro-Communist and pro-Soviet movies.

Yeah, McCarthy has been demonized, but people don't really know why. It seems they think he was doing his commissions for fun and because he was evil. Where do people of today get information about McCarthy? The media. And the media are a pack of wolves who hate people meddling in their business, like McCarthy did.

And there's the little fact that McCarthy was right. The people he wanted out of high positions in government were in fact Soviet spies. McCarthy didn't want their names released, the Dems forced their names released. McCarthy didn't want them in jail. He just wanted them out of sensitive and important government positions.
Anyone know where I can get a copy of the special this came from? It was an HBO (I think) special called something like "Martin Short: Concert for the North Americas" or something along those lines?
Did you have any luck finding this? I think it's actually from 1985 and it was on Showtime. I'm desperately trying to find it. He had a skit as a character named Narl or Knarl where he was talking on the phone. It was hilarious.

is Joe Flaherty doing Charlton Heston? If so it's perfect.

@Shamborn Yes, he is doing Charlton Heston. Towards the end of the clip, they make a reference to the movie "El Cid", which Heston starred in.
