  • Antonietta Rudge is a unkown but amazing pianist.

  • There many very good performances of this difficult piece , madame Rudge has showed perfect technique and timing .Delicate and devilish interpretation very well balanced !! Bravissima

  • What a pianiste,I juste discover her.

  • exceptionelle !

  • Absolutely stunning! How did you find such a rare recording?

  • Fantástico, es una interpretación realmente "diabólica" y vigorosa.

Fantastic, it is a "diabolic and really vigorous interpretation .

  • crazy interpretation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wonderful playing and very expressive!

  • This is truly marvelous playing. She brings a certain playfulness to this score, which in no wise diminishes the drama and power of the music. This score is usually played in such a way as to kill all musical expression, but not at Ms. Rudge's hands.

  • Brilliant playing!

Actually close to Prokofiev's own playing - classical, humorous and not OVERLY aggressive. Unfortunately nowadays this piece is performed as an exuberant maniacal nightmare... thanks for posting!

  • Thanks for this response! I figured that if Novaes went to study with Chiafarellli when she was 7, Rudge, 17 at the time, may well have been Chiafarelli's assistant in teaching her. I have read that Chiafarelli had studied with Busoni, who was ten years his junior. Who else did Chiafarelli study with? It is unfortunate that Rudge, who plays here so brilliantly, married all too early in life! This must have militated against the development of a major concert career of the sort Novaes had. True?

  • Yes, yes, it´s all true :) I readed something like that now ;)

  • ^_^ I'll take that as a thumbs-up?! Ha ha!!! Thanks so much!

  • I had never heard of Mme. Rudge before! Here she is playing a piece one would definitely associate with her pupil Novaes...when did Novaes study with her? I have read that Novaes studied with Luigi Chiafarelli and then with Philipp. This playing rates 5 stars for sure. Thanks to pianopera for sending this on.

  • GM studied with Luigi Chiafarelli AND Antonietta Rudge. Both of them started playing very early( Rude and Novaes) Luigi Chiafarelli was an italian professor very celebrate in Brazil, at that time. Antonietta Rudge was married with the english and famous football player Charles Muller and stoped her carreer because of the marriage very soon, (1902-1920), then becaming only a great Professor in Brazil.

  • In her choosing to concentrate on teaching rather focusing on a career as a concert pianist, Rudge reminds me of the Krause pupil Rosita Renard. For that matter, Philipp, himself a brilliantly equipped pianist, chose more to teach than to concertize. After I listened to this post, I went online yesterday and did a bit of a search on Rudge. Thanks again for posting her work - it's educated me and given me food for thought! (:-D)
