  • It IS Sinead's version...on the album Am I Not Your Girl? amazing beautiful...great album of covers too

  • This sounds like a Bond theme

  • this one isnt heather nova. the one that says portishead is actually heather nova. half of the versions on here are wrong. im pretty sure this one is actually sinead...it sounds like her.

  • GET SOME HAIR, THAN TRY ROCKING THIS SONG HARD, ROCK HARD

  • beautiful cover *-*

  • well thats quite depressing, but you got to be a complete pussy to commit suicide after this.

  • @Akron162 keep in mind the song was released during the great depression

  • actually, i prefere the original by billie holiday because it's so much deeper with more raw emotion

  • @theoffkeydiva The original was Hungarian. Composer Rezsõ Seress. Lyrics László Jávor. First recorded version sung by Pál Kalmár in 1935. Billie Holiday's cover came out in 1941.

  • This sounds pretty, but I definitely prefer Portishead's cover.

  • @princessem1981 it's actually heather nova. i was surprised myself... i love portishead too.

  • @tabnnadya Oh, wow! I didn't even realize. Serves me right for relying on Youtube to tell me who the artist is! ;) I've actually never listened to Heather Nova. I will have to check out more now!

  • Sarah maclaclans is my fave cover sineads ispretty

  • i think it's the best of this song the original Hungarian version!! :-))

  • TuRd! U havent watched and hear the original Hungarian version ot the song!! Im sure U will be able to kill yourself because of the Gloomy Sunday. D

Im a Hungarian as well. :P

  • The original song is Szomorú Vasárnap (gloomy sunday) by Rezső Seress a hungarian composer. :)

  • This song is beautiful and dangerous.

  • this cover is too sweet, I mean, I like it a lot but it doesn't give the right message of the song

  • Tolles Lied!! Hört Euch mal eine andere geniale Version von Tunes of Dawn an!!!

  • sinead o'conner is a very good interpreter of gloomy sunday.her voice fits.and her sort of passion as well.

  • doom & gloom can be found in artistic expressions of most cultures. it's lovely to hear an artist who can mesh together a personal connection to this universal experience, while giving it a local color - billie, sinead all did (more than bjork's more quixotic, singular artiste-driven voice:P) diamanda relies more on dramaturgy but no less effective.

  • This is a fantastic version, the frailty of her voice is perfect.

  • This is excellent but I prefer Loreena McKennitt's rendition the most.

  • This is excellent but I prefer Loreena McKennitt rendition the most.

  • Awesome song and great rendition. The intro sort of reminds me of the Death Adder music from Golden Axe - which makes me like it even more.

  • @Scoridd You just made a Death Adder reference. D:

  • THIS is how to sing the song. I remember hearing Sarah McLachlan's, and thinking ... Sarah just doesn't get it.

  • One of my favourite covers of this beautifull Hungarian song, with its mournfull text

  • liinda la canción

  • szép énekli ezt a magyar dalt! thank you

  • This is my favorite version, along with Björk's.

  • this song was written by Seress Rezső

  • if death sung this song it would sound like this

  • I heard it mentioned on the series 'QI' that people had been known to commit suicide over this song, though it wasn't Sinead's version played.

  • @MsBkirk Yes, that is what the media said, but this is just the legend, we really don't know what happened in reality. Originally this is a Hungarian song translated to more than 100 languages. You can here the original version, if you type in "rezso seress szomoru vasarnap hungarian original".

  • pretty.. yes.

  • I know of more covers of this song than any other, no joke. My favourites though are Diamanda Galas's, Bjork's, Sarah McLachlan's, Sarah Brighman's, and Tunes of Dawn's(:

  • @XbrokenXforXlifeX no joke, -my faves are the same- i'm not already convinced that you khow more covers that any other, just because i know many covers,i have a "tribute to gloomy sunday" playlist, at the moment with 18 interpretations, including the original, it grows still, hey but no misunderstanding, it's no competition, just the opposite, i would be glad, you could check my playlist on my channel, and tell me which one misses, even if we already found our favorites, sharing woulb be nice

  • Too many covers for this song,

but diamanda's remains the greatest. ♥

  • @punksweetyy i agree with you punk-sweety

  • @punksweetyy i agree to

  • @punksweetyy Finally! Someone with taste!

  • @punksweetyy i agree.. rest of them sound like hooray let's kill myself is so fun ;)

  • @punksweetyy nope! her voice is to deep...

  • @Wildchoco Ok, we are talkin' of what gives us goosebumps...

  • @punksweetyy Have you ever heard Emilie Autumn's cover? She leaves off the third verse. As it was written. It's pretty raw, but pretty cool.

  • @punksweetyy you know y there are soo many covers...because of the illuminati...didnt u hear that people committed suicide after hearing the original version....and other artist "loved" this song so much that wanted to create their own cover...that is just weird to me

  • @punksweetyy yeah baby :)

  • sad but beautiful!

  • excuse me while i kill myself

  • @TuRdSandwitch18 I laughed at your comment. ;)

  • the sadest song ever

  • there are many different people who have sung this song, but it was many years ago i first heard this done by Sinead that haunts me still with the despair in her voice

  • It so suits her soft and ever clear voice.

  • Thx 2 tha uploadr. Wuz lookn 4 this. I love tha Billie Holiday song...this is a nice cover.

  • Michou!!!!!!! ( Mach kein Chaos!)
