doom & gloom can be found in artistic expressions of most cultures. it's lovely to hear an artist who can mesh together a personal connection to this universal experience, while giving it a local color - billie, sinead all did (more than bjork's more quixotic, singular artiste-driven voice:P) diamanda relies more on dramaturgy but no less effective.
