天下 "tian xia" These two characters represent "All Under Heaven", in Ancient China, the Chinese believed that China was the only world in existence, and that heaven was above the land; hence the phrase "All Under Heaven" is synonymous with the meaning of "All united" or "All as one".
omg. i definitely cried when she took her own life too. :/ that's crazy, like she really loved him, their love for one another was amazing. and this movies plot and theme is the best. like i love it :D
@toussaintmgmt He knew he would be executed. That's why he said "remember all who gave their lives for peace". Otherwise he could have just fended off the arrows right? But he didn't. He just stood there and took it like a man. Read the Machiavellian quote at the end of the movie. It's a trade off between deontology and teleology. The king didn't want to kill him, but he had to administer universal law and unite the country (and sate the politicians who only tentatively support him)
@Pigroota the same one as you, but obviously seeing what you arn't. it's pride when a man won't admit he's wrong or change his mind (particularly in a case like this when he'd have to change his laws or waive them publicly to save an innocent life)
@toussaintmgmt this IS the whole essence of Kung Fu in effect, the physical bit of kicks, throws and so on are only the external part (wàijiāquán) of the art, the greater part lies internally (nèijiāquán) which is the absense of ego, the unity with the world around you, the understanding of the way the "power" of all that is, was and will be flows through everything, and how YOU, as an individual, are only a piece of that, no greater or less than any other. He's called "Nameless" for a reason
Want more sequel of this? Try to watch The Myth of Jackie Chan's.
But this is more on the concubines of King Qin S Huang? General Meng Yi or Jackie Chan has a forbidden love story with OK Soo. She is a daughter of a Korean King who was given as a concubine in order to have Korea and China to be in good terms.
Princess OK Soo is so different with Flying Sword who loved revenge.
Try watching this....Or maybe you have done it already. ^_^
Broken Sword: He laid down the Swordsmanship Ideal. PEACE not war.
Flying Sword. Revenge is still in her heart because her dad was killed by the Qin armies. Broken Sword loved his wife. He want to "go home" with her. In order to prove his love, he decided to drop his sword and be killed by her wife. She committed harakiri out of her own sword. They are dead with honor I supposed.
To Nameless: Thanks for him. His sacrifice changed China. They became united.
Broken Sword's deluded philosophy of giving yourself to tyranny in order for unity is such bullshit.
So next time we have another Hitler rise to power we should let the dictator win so we can have a New World Order? Anyone else like the sound of that?
When China was united and the other kingdoms destroyed, so was their culture. It was evil. Look at China today, it's a fucking mess. The people are treated like ass. I feel bad for the woman, he totally betrayed her.
@TheLegendarycouncil lol yea i saw him get stabbed a lot of times by flying snow.....like the time when he pulled his sword out and he got stabbed, also the time in the library and after he was with moon
@Jabbawockeez3451 Read up on Chinese history, especially the Zhao and Qin factions. The concept is simple: three Zhao assassins could not kill the Qin emperor, so they work together with one more -- Jet Li's character. One of the Zhao assassins could not kill the Qin emperor because he realized his goals were honorable -- the unification of China. Jet Li's character then cannot assassinate Qin either. Flying Snow is still loyal to Zhao king, so she does not want to see the Qin emperor live.
This movie is perfect. I didnt understand it the first time around. All the changing colours and situations. But the visuals are stunning. The Cg is so well blended you dont know what is fake or not. So much attention to detail. This is the pinnacle of film making. Alot of movies should not even be made.
wtf r ppl talking bout stupid shit and cdn history. No one gives a flying fadoodle. Such an intense, emotional scene, and the comments just killed it.
Lack of imagination is also the reason the Arabs will always get their ass kicked by Israel. The Arabs are all too willing to adopt weapons to kill people, but not develop the thinking that makes those weapons possible.
Had China in the past been more open to the use of the human imagination, combined with their work ethic, they would have had the technology to defend Hong Kong from the Brits. By contrast in the western world, the mentality is "I don't care how you get the job done, just get it done." In other words the imagination is free. If anyone doubts the power of imagination, just look at what Britain did to China.
Bruce Lee pointed China's weakness, and he did it, many times. Bruce Lee complained, that the Chinese martial arts were "rigid, and inflexible."
While a person's feet need to be firmly planted on the ground, neglecting imagination as a crucial problem solving tool is a mistake. In Chinese culture, daydreaming, fairy tales, stories, not only are these things strongly discouraged unless they're "cultural," in some Chinese household its leads to child abuse.
China only has one weakness, one achilles heel, however, which led to unecessary military humiliations by the west in its past. Although no western power has ever conquered China, that does not mean that display of military prowess and technology did not allow the west to influence traitors WITHIN China, back in the 19th century, said "traitors" being the Manchus. However that is not China's weakness.
All the same; for all the racist arrogant of Arab Imperialism (Islam), and the tyranny that followed the Muslim Empire (The West), China will forever be beyond their grasp.
For a "weak and small people," they have defended themselves well.
I dont give a damn I aint giving my life like that I would of just been like I sorry or I aint gone kill im about to go in the woods and float aroung with my deying gravity skills

because in the end nameless understands why he must not kill the king, even though the king is a tyrant. He understands that to unite everyone in that chaos, it would take someone who is as ruthless as the king. When he unites all those warring states, the people will at least have "better life" (not exactly peace yet... but at least better than constant warfare)
everyone was a tyrant. the duke of Zhao was no more liberal than the duke of Qin.
see I see it as what's constructive versus destructive. Flying Snow was so concentrated on revenge -- she had to avenge her father! Revenge, revenge, revenge! And of course none of the dukes would put aside differences because they wanted to remain in power.
Broken Sword and Flying Snow could have retired in peace (and lovers' bliss), but in the end Flying Snow's need for revenge makes both of them die.
@bananian Canada was a different story, like I said, China at that time period was called the period of Warring States, they were at constant warfare, all their rulers were ruthless. I don't remember those colonies in Canada went to war with each other as such scale.
Actually, in the original version, the words were "天下 (all under heaven)". it's only in the states that the subtitles were changed to "our land", apparently to make it more culturally relevant.

I don't care that I'm spamming, I feel that what I'm typing is meaningful;
the view I've adopted regarding imagination is this;
a rocket ship can not fly to the moon, unless all business has been taken care of in the ground first.
Meaning, before exercising the imagination a person needs to master discipline and a strong work ethic first.
