  • And the only thing the uploader posted was "read more" Not what concentration of methanol or the possible dangers. Ok, it was a little bit pretty, but potentially dangerous.

  • I think this kid got burned in a middle school science class watching this experiment:

    minnesota.cbslocal.com/2011/12/01/3-students-burned-at-maple-grove-junior-high-school/

  • Light 10 of them at once, lol.

  • @UseAbuseReuse farts? i wonder what the gennus book or world records is for people simultaniuos combustion by lighting thier farts on fire. Now there's one for the books!

  • kokeelin kans jetpakkia :)

  • just btw, Methanol can poison you. Ethanol, however, does the exact same thing with much less danger. (well, as much less danger as there can be when lighting flammable substances on fire)

  • @AttentionAllHaters

I assume they didn't drink it. As methanol burns, it forms carbon dioxide and water, so nothing dangerous here really.

  • @jmniskanen

You're right, but accidents do happen. Say he trips and the methanol goes into a friend's eyes, or some other crazy, unlikely catastrophe. You make a good point, but it's just generally safer to not use toxic substances.

  • @AttentionAllHaters

Well, proper safety gear is always necessary to ensure none is hurt :p and at least here we are taught at school to handle dangerous substances with certain caution so I guess they "should" know what they are doing.

  • @jmniskanen

I honestly don't know why we're discussing this. Clearly, nobody was hurt, so there isn't even a reason for it. In other news, OMFG, BOTTLE OF FIRE XD

  • @AttentionAllHaters

    You just won the internets.

  • Did this in my chemistry class and it scared the crap out of me cuz it was loud

  • I GOT T5O DO THIS IN MY SCIENCE CLASS

  • i thought this was more about chemistry than physics

  • dont expect anything smart from this comment i only do rockets and that isnt gonna get u anywhere

  • @Lifeonacircuitboard more chemistry than physics but w/e

  • @cesardude99 Physics, not chemistry.

    Take Physics 101.

  • @StainedShuriken333 ok well please explain whats going on in physics terms then, almighty genius freshman in college

  • @cesardude99 Sorry for enraging you with correct information and directing you to what would help you in life instead of looking uneducated when you incorrectly state something.

It's simple, actually. Methane is proportionately heavy to the typical air we breathe (nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, which is very minimal, and other particles). When it burns, it releases energy that cause the molecules to either a) break their bonds or b) violently vibrate due to the energy, which makes them push

  • @cesardude99 the O2 into the bottle due to our atmosphere not being a vacuum. That is why the top is not the only part burning the methane, like you would normally see enclosed gasses burn.

Also, I'm sorry to point out another incorrect statement of yours... I'm on my second degree. Please, enlighten yourself. Not just so other people don't judge you for being a typical moron, but for your own benefit. You obviously lead yourself in the wrong direction quite frequently.

  • @StainedShuriken333 hmm, molecules breaking bonds, and substances changing from one form to another, sounds a lot like chemistry to me. thanks for helping the only argument I made. Its a combustion reaction fed by O2 from the atmosphere

  • @cesardude99 Errr... bond breaking and a 'physical' state change... are physical changes. That's why it's classified in physics. Chemistry is the actual practice of creating new substances for a specific reason. A fire burning a substance is physics... not chemistry. Why would you even argue this? You can so easily find this information out for yourself, yet you choose not to... you're arguing something that you could learn for yourself in 5 minutes.

  • @StainedShuriken333 burning something is not a physical change. the reaction here is CH4 + 02 -> H20 + CO2. that's a chemical change, a combustion reaction. something YOU should have learned by the time you got your first college degree

  • @cesardude99 Uhhh.... your equation is not balanced. I'm not sure of the actual equation, but that is definitely not it since it breaks laws of physics... Thus, it's impossible.

  • @StainedShuriken333 you are right, I didn't feel like balancing because I think both of us are right In our own right, This argument is stupid, the chemical is methanol CH3OH, not methane, that's my bad. but the byproducts are water and CO2 unless there is not enough oxygen in the reaction which makes CO

  • @StainedShuriken333 sorry not C4 CH3OH

  • must be glass

  • Put a lid on it in mid ignition

  • Nice!

  • 2 please with a backPack strap

  • wHAT THE FUCK IS HE DOING???

  • we did this in my chem class sept used the bottle as a rocket

  • I dare you to try this with an oxidizer mixed with the methanol like n2o, ethylether, or best of all fuming nitric acid. BOOM!

  • @2012thedevil or seal the water tank and make an internal spark..... 25% ethanol should be significant enough to kill you at that range.

  • @brencooke that something you would see on MythBusters. I can just see them on the bomb range trying to get the biggest bang. If I'm not mistaken Adam and Jamie ignited a gas filled chamber using a neon tranformer for the igniter.

  • lokura...kekekekekkkkk

  • 80 people try to use this as a jet pack and died.

  • biggest damn lighter in da world

  • ill take 2

  • 13 people burned their marshmallows.

  • I declare this witch craft!!

  • so in other words we could have like 10 people like their cigarettes at once?!

  • Comment removed

  • it sounds like deamon i will try

  • almost as much fun as setting farts of fire. "no mum its not dangerous its science."

  • @bernared99

    sweet*

  • Cool...

    ermm HOT =P

  • would that be safe to hold?

  • Sweat :)

  • uMadBro?

  • so... who farted in the bottle??

  • @BallinMafia I DID...AFTER I ATE AT TACO BELL

  • @BallinMafia nice joke fag

  • @BallinMafia its methanol not methane -_-'

  • @taeke18 lol

  • i like how the add on this vid is for arrowhead water cervice... :D

  • So why does the flame sputter when the combustion reaches the bottom of the bottle?

  • @robert0joe No more to burn?

  • That was cool

  • lol I do the same thing with hairspray and a root beer bottle

  • I'm in mechanical engineering school and I still can't explain one thing. Sometimes, the flame goes flat to the bottom, with a flame still out the top, but no flames between. I'm guessing there's a gap around the inner flame that pushes out some of the fuel out the top, and the open area is "burnt" gases.

  • @mikeb1444 There are still flames in between, they are just weak and more orange because of the lack of oxygen used up by the flame from moving toward the bottom of the jug. And keep up with the M E degree, leave this stuff to the Chem E people lol...

  • any idea what it takes to blow up the bottle?: Mind me dont try it! Just any idea.

  • @Vidmary777 3 tsp of gun powder

  • sounds like aliens talking?

  • it sounded like my cow burping

  • looks like some idiot decided to put air with achihole particals in a jar and let it on fire...

  • Clearly, this is fake.

  • @zoomerlawns Clearly, your a troll.

  • @ilikemonkeysss Ahhh... touche!

  • @zoomerlawns how can you possibly think this is fake... dumbass

  • chuck norris fire fart!!! XD

  • did you fart in there?

  • @iBuckFush no he probley put a huge amount of butane in it

  • Lol love doing this with my jones bottle

  • i did this in my firnds basement and the shit blew up and lit his fake xmas tree on fire and his mom never let me go to his house again lol

  • Um... If the gas would have gotten out wouldn't he be a severe burn victim

  • its actually pritty simple how he does it its probably a hole can of hair or axe spray the he used and then just lit the top you can doo it with other bottles to (glass works best :)

  • FIRE!!!

  • done this a million times in chem class

  • u can do this with a water bottle or soda battle also, u get a lighter that has like the long barrel thing(idk wtf its called) and then u stick it in the bottle and press the button that releases the gas and hold it in the bottle for like 15 seconds, then put the lighter right in front of the opening in the bottle and light it, and quickly pull ur hand away and fire shoots out and it looks awesome!(: (thumbs up please)

  • @APancakeonps3 YOU ASK FOR THUMBS UP YOU GET THUMBS DOWN

  • Oooo00000oooh. Shiny and cool fireball too

  • HOLY S#*!

  • wow that was awsome

  • would that give me a super boost if i attach it to my car ?

  • FLAMETHROWER!!!1!1!!1

  • HOW'D U DO DAT

  • Captain Kirks nipples! That is awesome!

  • LOL COOL

  • that was so kick ass

  • try it with rubbing alcohol, it burns longer

  • gives a whole new meaning to "F bomb"

  • you could melt steel with that torch.

  • i did this with a 2 liter soda bottle and a flammable air freshener but it was on its side. it shot about 10 ft but the bottle was a bit melted after

  • h bomb , thats the most epic

  • i have yet to see somthing more epic than that

  • @eman790

i have seen probably only 1 thing more cool. a water cooler bottle (this one) being ejaculated by methanol across a room, with a fireball inside!

  • @PianoKwanMan,

That would be an epic video, could you repeat that event and record it?

  • That is the coolest thing I have ever seen, anyone do ever in the history of any world in our galaxi.....I've see better

  • looks like a middle finger

  • thumbs up if you agree that the new youtube upgrade sucks!

  • #1 one my " list of things to do before i turn 18 so just in case i get hurt i am covered by my parents insurance policy."

  • my scince techer did this in 8th grade and set the room on fire.

  • nice video, but be very careful doing this in a plastic bottle such as this. After repeated use it hardens and becomes glass like. We have had one explode before shooting pieces in every direction as shrapnel before due to the hardening of the plastic and the high pressure

  • yeah, my science teacher showed us this...with no warning either, just came outa nowhere, "hey look fire in a bottle! Lol!"

  • i got a 2nd degre burn from doin that lol

  • sounds like darth vader when he's wearing the mask haaa whooo lol

  • almost like the principle the pulse jet is based on :/ ha

  • thats me the day after ive been out drinking

  • lol wouldn't this be chemistry, not physics

  • @Peter007999 unless you look at the thermodynamics of the combustion reaction than its physics, but i know where you were coming from.

  • Basically that is a jet engin without the front air intake

  • That = EPIC

  • Lay it sideways and light it, rocket anyone?

  • @oMRCHUCKo I did it! A-W-S-O-M-E-N-E-S-S !!!

  • that was AWSOME!

  • that makes so much noice, my chem teacher was like "come closer and listen carefully" then ZOOOOOOOOM

  • Tried it with a pop can I ended up burning my arm hair!!!

    OUCH!!!!! :(

  • it's much better if you drop the match in.

  • Deflagration.

Try a perfect molar mixture and see what happens!

  • hah sweeeeet !

  • awesome video.

  • looks like me after i eat at taco bell XD

  • @Mrw0fflez yeah taco bell for life!!

  • @Mrw0fflez LOL!

  • @Mrw0fflez fucking funny

  • @Mrw0fflez lmao!!!!! u just made my day lol :)

  • @Mrw0fflez haha... i literally hate u

  • @BiatchBizzle thats not nice ...XD

  • great balls of fire!

  • dont know why but that is so cool

  • is that hydrogen ???

  • @valwrn It menthanol, it is a type of alcohol, im pretty sure you need a permit to buy it.

  • no you dont. methanol is a common ingredient in antifreeze (some enviornmentally friendly ones have ethylene and propylene glycol)...and its used as a racing fuel, alternative fuel, r/c plane fuel, and many other types of fuels...u can buy it at autoshops and racing stores as either antifreeze (depending on brand usually 97-98 percent pure) or as a fuel which is usually 99.99 percnet pure

  • sorry i should clarify: some enviornmentally friendly antifreeze products contain ethylene OR propylene glycol as ingredients b/c their freezing and boiling points are at extremes that make them ideal for internal combustion in extreme conditions

  • that looked cool.

  • hot air balloon

  • fire is coool......

  • looks like a ramjet or pulse-jet engine at the top, its binges back memories of when i used to get kicks form blowing up stuff...

...in fact i still do! XD

  • THIS IS SCIENCE!!!

  • that is so cool 5 stars

  • they shaked the Jar with ethanol inside and then when there is vapor ther put a mach with fire on the mouth??? Am I correct?? tnx!

  • how do you do that

  • i remember doing that, lol so much fun. that and fire balls

  • @bridge939 i like the sound of these "fire balls" you speak of haha. would you mind explaining?

  • I remember I got kicks out of doing that as a kid. Nice memories.

  • mix in a little Copper Chloride and you would have a green fire ball, or sprinkle in some magnesium.

  • lighting gasses with a bic isnt exactly "mad physics."

  • but its mad fun =]

  • Nice.

  • the blue flames are beautiful :)

  • For a smaller one, you can put "canned air" in a liter soda bottle and light it.... careful though because it burns off way quicker than methanol

  • there is a more fun way.... you can use "tcp" which is a anticeptic... can buy at any medical shop. get a small water bottle, ( works best if it has a sports cap) you pour in a tiny and i mean tiny bit of tcp, then shake it about until evaporated.... then lie it on the side and light a match at the end of the cap..... watch it fly and sound like a small jet! i will try and get some videos !

  • woow nice but dont play with fire;D

  • @Skysniffy ok mom thanks

  • :P love the wooof noise it makes

  • if you use the same kinda jug and pour a little pure ethanol in it then dump it out so just the gases are in there and then light the top it makes a cooler woosh noise lol

  • nitro

  • Fill it up with a quarter of gas and watch it go BOOM!

  • lol dude you dont need a quarter of methanol to do what he did, 2 cups of it at the most, it starts to turn into gas once exposed to oxygen.

  • awsome vid

  • do it with quickstart!

  • beast

  • you can do it with simple rubbing alcohol

  • try that with petrol, acetone, butane or.... acetylene :D if for the first is a bit hard to get the right mix for a boom, with the last is almoast imposible to get a burn XD always makes bOOm

  • how do u do that ?

  • methanol in a water tank and then just drop in a match.

  • I was doing this an hour ago, whith ethanol and pure oxygen in a 1.5 L bottle. It goes as a rocket, a lot more powerful. You can do nearly the same whith 90 degrees alcohol in any bottle.

  • make a video

  • here it comes!

  • lol my science teacher at school done this. but instead of the fire going on inside it jus has a strong burst of flame for a split second then it stopped

  • it means he put too much methanol: there was not enough oxygen to allow it to burn inside the bottle.

  • I watched this done in the Kansas Cosmosphere; they did it in Dr. Goddard's lab with one of these jugs on some sort of rail system. Thing freakin' shot across the room like a rocket. One of the coolest science related things I'd ever seen.

  • wouldn't that melt the bottle its plastic

  • A little bit. Its all over too quickly to fully melt.

  • in chemistry class, we mixed many elements together!
