Haha, "Birdy" just sent me a private message with only one word..."Geek"!... I told him I'm far to cool to be a geek, however the "Professor of Ancient Japanese String Plucking" (birdandthe) Well let's be honest, he is perfect for the crowning of King Geek!
Ian Curtis started out as himself and ended up imitating Morrison. McCulloch started out imitating Morrison and became himself. Ian and The B-men blew away each previous album 4 in a row and after a lull of over 4 years that would have killed most any other band, McCulloch picked up the pieces and started a new series of great albums. With only a few low points spread over a 33 year career to compare Mr. "2LP Curtis" to Ian McCulloch is laughable.
@Candleman89 with your limited brain the buns will seem better, to a boomtown rats fan boomtown rats would seem better than jd because jd are above their heads, stick to your own division, non league echo and the bunnymen.
@birdandthe I play synthesizers and the guitar. I could play any JD song after hearing it the first time. Admittedly the Bunnymen aren't much more difficult but they have a much greater sense of melody and sonic innovation. You love Ian Curtis because he made 2 morose Lp's during your miserable early teens which always clouds any sort of objectivity. What's more by dying so young we cannot see any improvement nor see him soil his Idol status which would have been inevitable.
@Candleman89 done anything worth listening to ? i very much doubt it, if you have leave me the details, i have seen your miserable heroes, cindy fuckin lauper !!! and that old faggot clapton who only ever did one decent guitar bit and that was by george harrison who told him what to do. joy division music will stand in a thousand years like beethoven schubert and ravi shankar, i ditched the bunnies after the second album when they turned from mildly interesting to utter shit
@birdandthe As I look at your videos it occurs to me that I am not talking to a normal person at all. You have Japanese music and you have Joy Devision.... Ok since I brought it up I'll go first. My top ten Favorite artists NOT in order of greatness... 1.Cocteau Twins 2.MUSE 3.Suede (92-95) 4.Depeche Mode ('87'97) 5. Ian and co: '81-'11 6. Leonard Cohen 7. ABBA 8. Rufus Wainwright 9. Jean-Michele Jarre 10.The Beatles
@Candleman89 what a laugh !!! beatles 67 -70 great, the rest are shit for chavs, depeche fucking mode !!!! jean michael jar of shit must be in the top ten most vacuous 'composers' of all time, tell me this is a joke.
@birdandthe You just did ended my argument for me, and you didn't even need my help to do it. Only a witless testicle would name J/D in the same breath as Beethoven, Schubert (and Shankar?)... If your going to go there then at least have the courtesy to name Rachmaninoff.. Tw*t.
@Candleman89 yeah yeah yeah, you 'proved it' i dont see any classical on your page, obviously north indian classical is beyond your cultural/intellectual/spiritual limits, dont bother me again you nerdy twat
@birdandthe Your arguing that I don't have a clue what good music is because I have no appreciation for the 'Bongo Masters of Giligan's Island' or some other obscure thing. You do not win pissing contests by misdirection nor by losing your temper. When arguing which is the superior of two similar things mentioning a 3rd thing that has nothing at all to do with the first two is a logical fallacy. Again the subject is pop/rock/alternative. Didgeridoo-playing natives don't count. :)
@birdandthe Dude, I'm not in denial I listened to all your songs and read your message board, it's clear you have a lot of haters commenting on them already so there's no longer any point for me to continue. Honestly I just like to start arguments with people I disagree with on occasion because it amuses me. I've just been winding you up for my own benefit. So go have a drink and relax.
@birdandthe My father was an Airborne Ranger who fought in Viet-Nam, retired as a Colonel, and suffered from malignant melanoma and atypical Parkinson's disease from when I was 15 in '91 till his death in '02. I was his sole care giver during this time. There are things I would blame him for, but certainly not for my taste in music nor for my penchant for making people pissed at me while I wind them up. My dad loved Stan Getz and Paul Desmond, God knows why, but I loved him.
@birdandthe@birdandthe "how did he know they were VC and not civilians ? did he shoot any children ?" you ask... Well he had these nifty contraptions called "eyes" and "ears" and these things were able to inform him if someone not in US uniform had a gun and whether or not they were shooting at him. He also had radios that told him where other soldiers were. Why you turned this from an argument about taste in music to my father's actions 40 years ago is mystery
@birdandthe Tell you what. You list your top ten favorite bands (nothing Japanese) and I'll do the same and we'll get a better idea of who has better taste in music.
@Candleman89 your trying to rig the ballot arent you , no japanese masters, persian classical, indian classical, javanese gamelan, persian classical, western classical or anything that is above your head, so how can you judge someone who has listened to and understands music you dont understand ? you cant, anyone who likes cindy lauper is a retard.
@birdandthe Rig the Ballot? No. We are debating pop/rock/alternitive music, it would hardly be relevant for me to start name dropping the all time greats of Polka music now would it?
@Candleman89 YOU THICK TWAT YOU CANNOT DEBATE THINGS YOU DONT UNDERSTAND, ITS LIKE ME 'DEBATING' WITH STEVEN HAWKINS ON STRING THEORY OR THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING AND SETTING RULES THAT EXCLUDES ANYTHING I DONT UNDERSTAND !!!!!!!!!!
@birdandthe When I woke up tonight I said I'm gonna make somebody love me, I'm gonna make somebody love me, and now I know now I know now I know, I know that it's youuuuuuu. Your lucky lucky your so lucky!
@birdandthe It's Franz Ferdinand! Mr. "I know every musician on the planet". I don't think even you could deny it's a great tune. Check it out it's called "Do You Want To"
@birdandthe Holy crap! I just checked out your music site. Had I known you were capable of composing such instant classics as "Serenade To My Underpants" or "My Banker Is A Wanker" I never would have had the nerve to disagree with you.
@Candleman89 YOUR IN DENIAL, PANTS IS 6 OUT OF TEN GONE DOWN A STORM AT BIRTHDAY AND WEDDING GIGS (DONE ANY GIGS ?) WANKER IS OK 5 A BIT OF A LAUGH, SO YOU BYPASSED WITCHES PLOT, MAGIC MUSHROOM PARTY, GREEN BOTTLE MAN, GHOST, VIKING, DOWN IN THE TRENCHES ETC ETC ALL OF WHICH PISS ALL OVER ANYTHING BY THE TAME BUNNYS AND ANY SHIT YOU DO WHICH YOU HIDE AWAY FROM THE CRITICS, COME ON BUNNY BOY STICK YOUR SHIT UP AND LETS HAVE A LAUGH.
@Candleman89 your a musician bore arent you, can play anything by other people but no ideas for yourself, you can have the best instruments in the world and be totally talentless, like you, send me your songs for a laugh, i wont send you mine because you would not understand
@birdandthe No. There are 9 year-olds who can play better than me. You should know by the fact that I am a Bunnymen fan alone that I am not a pretentious muso. Yes I write my own stuff and I do consider it less boring than J.D songs. The only thing I can't wrap my head around is that you love so much exotic music but when it comes to English speaking bands your tastes devolve to Ian Curtis.... Sorry, help me understand that.
@Candleman89 despite what you might think of me, if you showed me an original song that you had written I would give you respect for it. I'm certain I wouldn't love it but that's besides the point. Most of this is just me enjoying a good pissing contest which I seem to have won many times over.
magical beings with fabulous powers enriching the universe, with dazzling eyes, lips like sugar, and hearts and minds, bodies and souls of pure love and affection for you and me
Wonderful! Wouldn't Ian have been great as a replacement for Ian? Could it have been any easier? Ian the Mac, the most under-rated pop singer of the last thirty years. Thanks so much for sharing this one...
@def1ghi replace ian ??? !! third rate vocals, even worse when composing time came the shallow mind of mac boy would be exposed, hooky would beat him up and he would cry
Wow, this is cool. Very interesting as when I saw New Order live at either the Universal Amphitheatre in Universal City or it might've been Irvine Meadows in '89 Bernard Sumner dedicated "Ceremony" to Pete De Freitas, announcing his recent passing.
@MusicForSmartPeople I was at the 1987 Echo & The Bunnymen/ New Order/ Gene Loves Jezebel show in California. It was a real treat to see them play together in one show. I actually still have my "1987 North American Tour" promo flexi-disk with Echo & The Bunnymen's "Rollercoaster"/ New Order's "Shame of the nation" and GLZ's "Fresh Slice"... surprised it's survived all these years :)
