They're called bumper plates and yes, they're used for olympic lifting because they can be dropped repeatedly without harming the plates or the ground.

These are fun - I have been doing them lately as a combo with front squats - Hit 3-5 reps overhead and then hit an equal amount of reps on the front squat.

Good observation - I bet you could tell by the pretty colors and the different sizes and the way they bounced, huh?
It's a 25, 20, 15, and 10 kg on each side. 140 kgs x 2.205 lbs = 308.7. Add the 45 lb bar and you get 353.7.
Maybe you shouldn't comment anymore?
