This is a really shameful documentary. What does it mean that try to make these girls to become chinese. All these girls are chinese. they are just lahu minority. just like In america, there are blacks and whites.but they are all american. The parents send their girls to school to receive a better education. just like all the latino parents and black parents here in america to send them to school to learn English.
@kenzhang2006 The point is that the girls may learn to view themselves as Han Chinese in terms of culture, and may not relate to their own culture and may eventually abandon their homes forever. It's a very real concern.
Chinese take too much exception to this kind of thing... Just like Taiwanese don't consider themselves "Chinese", even though they know they are ethnic Chinese, it's a matter of culture and nationalism.
The translation of the principal's speech by the narrator doesn't not match at all.....
