A combination of classical music (Bach I think) and praises of Motown (one of many tunes to do this. Check out the Poppies 'Lulaby of Love'! ) Toys,' 'Lover's Concerto' is pure poetry. A true love song. A gem to listen and dance to.. that's all i can say! COOP.
This was truly one of the greatest songs of it's time. Long gone are the days of true talent and musical genius. Now, in these days and times, it seems as if anyone with a gimmick can go gold. It would be great for those us who really enjoy good music, if good music could find its way back to us.
If you liked this song, you must try the spanish version by Karina. I think, it's even better. . . The name is "Concierto para Enamorados". Enjoy . . .
I am amazed at how there is always some racist remark made about an artist or group. This was just a really good song and it takes me back to my time in the army, away from home, my girls, being lonely and not certain about the future but some idiots always seem to revert to racism. Loved this song.
@doowopit like fatasss Americans, in general dont have an obesity problem.AT least Black women, have the excuse of being the most stressed woman for 500 years, in America. WHILE ALL THE REST IS JUST FAT FOR NO REASON. ESPECIALLY WHITE WOMEN.
What a beautiful video we now have to enjoy--all I ever had was the 45 single record! These girls were special talents and sang beautifully. And we understand every word, and it has deep meaning.
This was when black singers had class and had values. I wish today's black singers would keep these beautiful women as role models and try and emulate them instead of singing their racist, sexist grabage which they call rap music. This song breaks all racial barriers and shows what true love between people should be.
Racial comments are so ignorant on here, especially on THIS song, as it is such a clear example of how Black American culture + White European culture combined in the USA to produce the musics which are most loved all over the world: jazz, rock'n'roll, soul, R&B, blues. Without either influence none of those musics would exist.
@sharonanony I love Anita Baker! I wonder how her doing a cover of this would turn out. She's done songs with medium to faster tempos before i.e. "Do You Believe Me," "Same Ole Love."
@lizardsy Yes, and do you know why? Because white people have a history of being racist against blacks. So now they can't say the same things black people can. A black person can say 'Black is Beautiful' without a fear of it turning into a KKK rally!

What sweet memories this song brings back. Gosh, I was so young and so full of youthful yearnings and desires. This makes me feel about 14 years old again. Thank you for a memorable post. I absolutely loved this song and always will because it takes me back to a time of innocence coupled with the awakening desires for a grown up love! Thank you so much for this post. :)
from the time that i was 4 years old and heard this for the first time , i have always loved this song, now my son loves it , my neices and nephews love it also, thats the power of music .it is eternal
I loved this song so much when I was a teen..and never knew until I got older that the tune for it was written by the great composer Bach! So when I got married, I had this tune (Bach version) played while my bridemaids walked down the aisle. Love the TOYS there were a wonderful group!
@fjbutch Glad to give a bit more info on the 'tune' for this classic song from the Toys. If you want to hear Bach's composition;'Minuet in G Major' . You can hear it if you do a search for it on YouTube but it is listed as 'A Major'
@monakayk in the mid 60s there seemed to be a few records based on melodies from classical music .. Night of fear by the Move? Opus 17 by the 4 Seasons?
Heard this played on the radio yesterday, many years since I last heard it so a real pleasure to be able to find it here so I can listen to it whenever I want
It had better not grow old. Otherwise, it would have been far too old by the time the melody was lifted from Anna Magdalena's notebook for this hit to have resulted. (Today, this particular melody is credited to Christian Petzold by contemporary music scholarship, rather than to either Anna Magdalena Bach herself or to Johann Sebastian Bach.)
Finally, at 1:46, the other two young women get up and join in. Even Mary and Flo/Cindy singing behind Diana Ross in the Supremes got more involved than these two did for most of this video.
COOP.
