  • Whether everyone likes it or not, America is an English-speaking country and the only way anyone can hope to get ahead is to learn to speak English and that is simply the way that it is.

  • this video is pure arrogance!

  • Interesting, I had never heard of data regarding the effects of immersion.

  • El Español es el lenguage unificador en el Hemisferio Occidental desde el Polo Norte hasta el Polo Sur., En España, Noroeste de Africa Las Filipinas, Guinea Ecuatoreal, Guam, el Antartico, las Islas Mariscales, las Islas Marianas. "HISPANIA"

  • I am an immigrant and I support an English-Only Policy. The way I acquired English was to be thrown into an English-Speaking Class and be forced to speak English. I have known people who had been in ESL for many years and still can barely speak any reasonable amount of English. Those are the kind of people that will totally bomb in any sort of Standardized Testing.

  • prop 227 was passed in CA primary election in 1998 not 1988

  • learn american!!! want to speak english move to bloody england..

  • The new Aparthied!

  • The issue at hand is not which language is right or wrong. All politics aside, as an educator we are faced with having to teach students of all cultures, languages, etc. Under the rule of NCLB, how are we to reach students if there is not a common language. Not right or wrong, but a common unifying language where all students will benefit and succeed in the classroom. Yes, English has become the "accepted" common language; however, in no way should others give up their identities or cultures.

  • so is everyone supposed to learn every language ? having everyone speaking a common language increases communication and brings people together. you don't have to give up you culture by learning English.

  • @evanje53

And I don't have to give up my culture by learning Spanish.

  • @evanje53 ~ OMG!!! THANK YOU! FINALLY SOMEONE THAT MAKES SENSE!

  • Cherokee speak english so that people who don't speak this countries original language can understand us. And so we can get our point across. English only law in Oklahoma does not apply to the Cherokee. I sure this country will be giving us all an national ID so we can travel, buy, sale. Sort of like the Anti Christ.

  • I agree that english only should be the common law in America. When I'm trying to look for a job in the office industry I am usually qualified, save for one fact. I must know spanish. I think that is bullcrap because why do we have to cater to them? You don't hear german only or chinese only. When the language caters to one race then I have a problem. (note: I'm not even full white and I still support english only).

  • Join the facebook group SAY NO TO FORCED BILINGUALISM.

  • did you know that Spanish was being spoken on this continent for years before English came around . America is like 28th in education now lets dumb it down even more to speak one language for the sake of a few racist idiots.i speak two languages fluently and i am better for it. instead of bitching for English only you should probably try to learn another language the global economy is coming fools why put ourselves at a disadvantage. I though you right wingers believed in freedom of speech .

  • Um Canada is bilingual because its a mix of former british and french territories like the US

  • you know who else wanted one language for their country.Nazi Germany .north Korea .and the soviet union just to mention a few you English only guys are in such good company.

you also want to build a border wall just like the ussr we told them it was wrong to have a border wall and now we fight for our own i guess its good to have a short term memory

  • in fact, most of the USA was part of spain

  • @kaikovich

Although, more of it was part of France (Lousiana + Territory between Mississippi and Appalachians). :-P

  • Spain owned luisiana (took it from France), as well as all the west. 60% of USA. Try again

  • mexican don't speak Spanish they speak nahualt

  • ??????????????really because the last time i spoke to a Mexican is Spanish he seemed to understand me and i am not Mexican

  • actually if people want to learn Spanish they should move to Spain no to North America .

  • English only please this is U.S.A

  • metete el deo por el culo y lambelo racista maricon.

see now if you only knew Spanish you would know why we are all laughing at you

  • @lepoisonrouge828432 ~ THANK YOU!!!

  • A 13-year-old girl in Japan's International Airport forced to make a choice, stay in Japan or join parents deported to Philippines. The Calderon's illegally entered Japan on fake passports. immigration arrested her mother in 06. Parents fought laws, & lost, Japan ordered parents deported to Philippines.Activists accuse Japan of not respecting Child Rights. People choose to break laws & must pay accordingly. No Exceptions

Japan gave girl Her Rights,Choice: Her country or her parents

  • I am bilingual and I am able to socialise in both languages. At home I speak Spanish, at work I speak English.

Both languages are beautiful and compliment each other. This is the beauty of the USA; tolerance towards other ethnic groups.

English has nothing to fear from the Spanish speaking people, quite the contrary, English is becoming the dominant language all over the world,, and eventually will be absolutely indispensable.

  • People should be allowed to speak whatever language was their first language. It should be up to them if they want to learn to speak english. They should however learn to speak more than just their language to beable to speak and communicate with other people.

  • Presione el numero 1 y estara en Español jajaja

  • No entiendo este video ... que no está en español ? jajaja

  • oh c'mon everyone knows in America we speak SPANISH lmao

  • OH YEAH AND UNCLE TOM BLACK PEOPLE

  • POOR DUMB WHITE AMERICANS.

  • The important thing to understand about Bilingual Education is not that it is trying to educate students solely in their native language, but as a means to learning skills and concepts and ALSO as a means for learning English. English Only Education has been proven not to be as effective. Students who learn in bilingual settings Flourish in their native languages and in English.

  • You are right. You can access much more information if you take a second language and learning languages is the only way to get to know more about cultures. I do not think this would affect the English-speaking skills. Learning another language is always a challenge and it should definitely be encouraged.

  • Modern context is not fact it's an opinion. They are not xenophobic nor am I, but If I can't understand what some person orders becuase they speak Spanish, it's their problem, not mine. They should learn English to communicate! It's not abou race. Oh, and I know history, today is different. There are hordes of people who sneak in here and DON'T love this country but love what it can do for them.
