CJW-I am responding to your comment, not the lyrics of the song. i am going to assume by your follow-up that you are taking the piss. Either way, no skin off my nose. Just love the song.
aldgunencarrothers - I know but I do so love troll-baiting - indeed almost as much as I love the Pogues. On another note if you're still touting for business, do you need any protection (for the right fee of course)? Some of those old bankers can get a bit uppity... ;~{)
Instructions: Listen to the lyrics properly, look at aldgunencarrothers comment, think about irony and try again you pair of gullible (but loveable in your naivete), clown trousered, trolling buffoons... ; )
This song was in that movie... My Own Private Idaho... with River Phenonix and Keanu Reeves... GREAT flick if you ever get the chance to see it. AWESOME flick. Great song. The Pogues rock all around.
yes yes, that moment at the end of the film is forever lodged in my memory. On that long dusty road. River Pheonix's performance is the most natural and beautiful thing I've ever seen. Have a nice day :)
@aldgunencarrothers poor you rent boy !! i hope your happy now mate !! i know what soho is like and i hope your away from the scum !! i hope you got no drug problems but if you did what you said you did then i wonder anyway my friend i hope you r at peace !! you got taste in music !!

allora ce ne sono 2, e la più vecchia è di sicuro dei decibel... le ho appena sentite, quella dei modena è una cover dei pogues, per quanto vale la musica; le parole no di certo... penso facciano schifo uguale, comunque.
Yes, the crowning point in that film. Those closing credits, up till when I was ambivalent, wondering "is Gus Van Sant as smart as he seems to be from what I've just seen. Or is this a fortunate accident." And then came the Pogues, to reassure me that everything I saw was real brilliance, from a man who knew nothing could complete such a film but the Pogues-- what a lovely, painfully sad song. Makes me sneer at the coppers all day, when I hear it. Just sneer, in impotent rage and indignation.
whats interstin is...any song about irish hardship brings out its victims, now proud to be named martyrs...any rentboys proud to say hi?i dont think so because our country cant deal with it...great,honest song
i love the pogues, i love when they play it at the end of my own private idaho :)

I knew an old rent boy - he was proud of *not* being the rent boy who ripped off Alan Turing. Fair.
