Ana and her playing are lovely but unfortunately this recording sounds terrible. The guitar is beautiful but either in the original TV recording or in a re-recording stage, it's turned up to where it's distorting and causing funny noises.. Fortunately she has plenty of others on Youtube including at least one good take of this one. I have yet to see and hear them all but Ana is fantastic!

Ana Vidovic is a superb guitarist (and that's an understatement) you might be right about lack of tone colour, but i think the guitar sounds harsh, perhaps it's very new? For me a nice traditional classical guitar for recording is best.

@AhavaRabboh: First of all, having my own opinion doesn't makes me miserable. I'm not saying she is not playing right. Listen to Andres Segovia playing this piece, its pure beauty and makes me feel nostalgic, in other words it makes me feel the music. Ana rushes the song and I just hear notes, that's all. You don't have to understand me, everybody is have different preferences but I'd rather listen to other guitar players.

@kolikolakoli You should trust your ears. You are right. Vidovic displays what is seen in many young musicians today: stunning technical performance and ability (from hours and hours of practice from their over-bearing parents), but very little, if any, musicianship. That's why Segovia sounds so much better to you ears (and mine). His years of performance and experience permit him to alter the timing, adjust the phrasing of the notes, so the music breathes, and you feel the emotion

@AhavaRabboh She is technically proficient, but playing speed cannot make up for musicianship. Her performance lacks color. By the way, I can tell that you do not play the classical guitar.

My heart hurts so much when I hear that and I apologize for being arrogant to kolikolakoli. I don't play classical guitar, but I play acoustic. And yes, I know that they are very different instruments, just like the electrical guitar is. But to feel and understand music (and I can tell for myself that i do), you just don't need to know this things. If we don't have the same or similar taste for music, we probably wouldn't even be here discussing this right now.

Maybe is She shy and that's why people get the impression that She lacks feeling or it could be something else.. It doesn't necessary have to do with music or performance. I'm sorry for grammatical errors, but English is not my mother tongue; I'm Croatian..

@AhavaRabboh It has nothing to do with her shyness, and everything to do with her music. As I said, her music lacks color, and although she can play the piece quite rapidly, it does not evoke any emotion in the listener.

a u87 is an excellent professional mic. I'm not recording on that level, but for a couple hundred you can pick up something like an AT30305 from Audio Technica or a similar wide diaphragm mic. An sm57 is great for a live audience where you're worried about feedback from the stage and crowd noise, but on a studio set, they could use a better mic and have an excellent sounding performance.
