I do not have a gun permit. I have a appointment to take a gun saftey course in Feb but that is as far as i am right now. Once I take the course and fill out the police application which I have to do in person at police station with thge chief of police I believe. I live in Massachusetts. I have no crimnal record whatsoever so I was wondering how long after I do what I need to do will I actually get my gun permit. please can anybody let me know how long it should take? thanks
This is your channel. You get to set whatever example you want to but, is changing your rig and equipment on a daily basis something you really want to suggest others do? I don't think so...
My wife never liked guns and know its taken 12 years .know she is coming with me sat. To my local gun store to buy my saiga 12 and my new ar 15 .I got her interested. This going to rock.
I'm glad you are a burly dude. You were able to use size and strength to remedy the situation.
If you were small, and say, a woman, I don't know if a forceful punch attempt would have done the job. "Last resort" could differ to different people. for some people the hesitation of a "last resort" mindset in a crazed-person occurrence could spell the end of them. It's something to consider.
I've had my permit going on 4 years, and I'm happy to say I never needed to take it out of it's holster and hope that's the way it remains. I carry one, sometimes two guns at all times. The only time I don't have one on me is when I'm sleeping or in the shower, even then they are within reach or just a step or two away. Keep up the great vids.
A bit of paranoia carring 3 guns. I've been a gun owner for over 25 years and I don't carry any firearms on me. Use my 9mm on the range, and hunt with my 30/06, 303 and 12 gauge. I just don't find any justification of being armed 24/7, that is bluntly ridiculous. Law enforcement is responsible for keeping peace, not vigilanties ( excuse my spelling if not correct, lol ). Getting into a gun fight with a gang-banger or other criminals will turn really bad withing 2 seconds flat.
@hamiltoncouple01 thats exactly the point the police keep the peace they aren't body guards. If your in a situation where the other guys are armed even poorly and they are criminals they have nothing to lose if you aren't armed you use it as defense and are out numbered play it cool or run its about options carrying everyday not being a hero. As his story tells he had the option in case this drunk was armed but he instead played it safe and just hit the guy.
I'm retired Army, living in Texas and I have a CHL (CCW permit). I agree with all of your comments on restraint and use of a weapon in various situations and the need for proper training. The one thing I question is the amount of weapons that you carry. Three? Really? That's a little over the top in my opinion. It kind of denotes a paranoid mentality.
I'm very new at self defense, However your clip, I'm sure, will save many lives. Common sense and restraint --key factors. Training is a must. I am taking my cwp this weekend Yaaay. Do you have any advice for women in an iffy situation. I'm sure that I couldn't punch out a guy. I would have been terrified and uncertain about how to proceed from there :/
I like the higher standard you spoke of. People must act responsibly. I'm torn on carry permits. On the one hand I think you should be allowed to carry a gun if you want--no permit necessary. On the other hand, criminal-types ought not be allowed to carry. See my delima? I also agree with your ideas about training, but I would not make them mandatory. Glad you're on our side.
@weaponseducation i would first like to say i do have a ton of respect for what you're trying with this channel you have a lot of great content however i think some of your videos namely the one you renamed "busted? no gun for you!" makes you appear a little to harsh towards who you consider "criminals" the state cannot afford to keep everyone in prison forever and often it is good to go lenient on people unless they are the most violent of offenders.
It good that you can get gun permit. I live in CA, Sacramento where there is home invasion, theft and gang, it very hard to get an permit here. Even if you do, law here say you can't carry an loaded gun (including can't have bullets in the clip that still count as " loaded "). So there really is no point of getting an CCW. I'm not sure but I also heard you can't even use your gun help another person even though he/she is being rob at knife or gun point, cause it them and not you who in danger.
A good point I learned from my CCW class in Ohio is that you have to let the police do their job. If you are able to leave the situation you must do so, also if you start any altercation you cannot defend yourself with a gun. Plus lots of other info, TAKE A COURSE!
Another thing that you could have done was after you spun out and the guy was charging your car is turn the head light on in the car and aim the firearm at the attacker. Did you physically have the time to find the switch and everything? I dont know. Would that be illegal where you were at the time? I dont know. What I do know is that the sight of a gun is USUALLY enough even with people who are intoxicated for them to stop and make a sobering and sometimes life changing decision.
@rashidmanta I would highly recommend something in the Springfield Armory XD series. Most of them will eat practically ANYTHING. This includes reloads and anything else you can think of. I personally dont own one but, I do however shoot an XD .40 often. I clean and care for it almost as much as the owner does. Neither the owner nor I have ever had a problem with the firearm and there as been a couple thousand rounds put through it. The XDs are also fairly affordable and are of high quality.
| sense you are VERY glad you didn't blow this guy AWAY, but through whatever influence... disorientation/sense of perspective/divine providence even, you merely 'planted' him. It was a good choice, with hindsight, as no one really talks about how it feels to actually put the trigger on a human being, no matter what they have done/are doing, and, moreover, the legal nightmare that would probably ensue if you had done so, possibly a civil suit if not a jury trial. A good and honest video.
I can tell even telling the story of this experience still charges you up and gets your adrenilne going. It is so important for people with CCW to get good training.
Thanks for the video. Great advise. I agree with how you handled the road rage situation. I think I would have done exactly what you did. I have a question for you... what if you were 5'8" and he was 6'5" AND Tammy was in the car with you. Would you have done the same thing or perhaps something different. I put myself in that situation and I did not have clear answer in my mind.
My granddad just got his conceal carry permit and he doesn't practice with it at all. He just uses his old S&W .38 police, that he carries around in a gun bag, and doesn't always have on his person. I asked him if he ever practiced with it and he was just like, "nope." I wish he understood the points you're making in this video.
Thanks for the story, experience, and more so advice. My 21st is coming up soon and I'll be getting my CCW relatively soon after. My question to you is, which do you think is the better way to carry a handgun (I'm thinking about getting a gov't model 1911), on the hip (concealed) or with a torso sling (detective style)?
though you maybe bigger than me...though you may carry a gun...legal or illegally...the greatest weapon is intelligence...make sure to use your brain its THE MOST important weapon
@lawrence90909 I was disoriented from spinning out in the grass, plus I was not sure if there was a canal behind me. I should have locked the doors & did nothing and just pointed my gun threw the window. Hindsight is 20/20 . I will never react like that again, I shared this story because it changed my life...
@lawrence90909 i would have> if you wrestled at all, dosnt matter get them on the ground and they are just as big as you are things could have been completly different for Tom if went up against someone who knew what they were doing. goes back to the point of his video you never know who are dealing with. CCW=responsibilty. be safe.
Born and raised in Miami Fla, still live here I know exactly how it can be down here, born in 62 you made the right choice, i've been enjoying your informational videos for a while now keep it up nice job!
im just wondering were can you like absolutly not take your firearm with you like i know you cant take it to the airport but im just wondering like what other places can you not walk in with your firearm.
If you can carry a gun then the bad guy's can carry a gun? I live in the UK and I don't go out my door thinking about getting killed everyday, we don't have gun's but if you know where to look, it would be easy to buy as candy. I love guns and would like to own one, but it is quite hard here in the UK. My point is how many people will be trained to use one in a stressful situation? Might end up shooting the wrong people? how would you live with that? I love to have family time and not to worry!
@eightgeorge The UK is a perfect example of horrible gun laws, rioting & total mayhem. I watch the news in your wonderful country closely. I feel bad for you guys...
@weaponseducation There are some gun crimes here in the UK but a lot less % than the US given the size. The rioting was bad but it did not last long, The LA riots were bad and citizens had to defend there property because the police weren't around, this was the same with the UK riots(It could have been worst). I totally understand where your coming from, but I would rather not have guns than everyone walking around with a gun, it takes great training to use your gun in a stressful situation.
great video Tom.hey have you tried rustys rags yet if you have let me know what you think of them if not well i have and they are great anyway once again great video i reall enjoy your input
I'd love some feedback on the following true situation. My wife and I came out of a restaurant, very late at night, in downtown Atlanta. He were approached by 2 homeless guys in the parking lot demanding money. Like you say, I didn't have time to think. They were on us in a second. She jumped in the car and I faced them without pulling my weapon. A cop came to my rescue. I have second guessed my decision over and over. I was lucky, but this could happen again. What would others have done?
Hi Tom, great advice. I've considered this point more than once. I barely blew my horn at a guy that ran a yield sign and ran me into the next lane. He moved in front of me, slammed on his brakes, flipped me off, then picked up a gun and sat it in the passenger seat, I was pinned in between his car and a car behind me. I had my Glock 19 right next to me and was prepared to shoot him if he got out of the car. Glad he didn't for me and him both. Do people like this think others aren't armed too?
Thank you for this video! I'm an Ordained Minister, I believe strongly in the right to own and carry a gun. I've been criticized many times by people because of this. Just because I am a Reverend and an American I understand that as a leader it's my responsibility to protect my flock my family and those that are in immediate danger. The good shepherd will lay down his life for His sheep. Or in my case lay down the enemy attacking my sheep! Keep up the good work!
7:52 "when you get your firearm, you have to hold yourself to a higher level."
Correct. I carry everyday with my license. I have always been a humble, non-confrontational person and since I have been carrying, even moreso. If there is trouble nearby, I do all that I can to avoid it. The best way to win a gunfight is to prevent it. Also, I recommend carrying mace or pepper spray along with a gun; it`s good to have both at hand for dogs or a person when shooting is not needed.
Chrizzis 77 brought up a good point if the guy is the muscle builder and you ar out of shape shuld u shoot him. What I don't understand is why if the troopper saw what was happening he did not intervened sooner.
If you had your viper, the guy would not have been able to stay next to you lol. Gun free zones are a joke. I think the bad guy makes the decision for me when it comes to using deadly force. Also just because the bad guy doesn't have a gun or a "weapon" it doesn't mean you can't use deadly force. I am 6'2" and 311lbs. If I were to attack your wife with my bare hands, I am sure I could do some damage or maybe even kill her, so it could be justified lethal force if she shot and killed me.
After shooting an attacking, 110 lbs pitubll, I called 911. The scumbag owners were mad about it. I had to use my cell and deal with them. They were stupid but didn't cross the street. Advice I'd give is to give minimal info on your cloths and location. Hang the phone up and stand with your I.D. over your head. PD won't let you wait days to make a statement.Usually.
You obviously did the right thing. Somebody, not as big, could've possibly been threatened enough to remain in the vehicle and shoot through the window as the bad guy began to smash windows, etc. Life is different when armed. Training is key. Too many people just think if they carry something, they'll just be dead on, 100% accurate at all times. Good vid.
Hey Tom great video one of the things that I do is when I pull up to a stop light I make sure that I am in the left or right lane if I can sometimes you can't and I leave enough space between me and the care in front of me so if anything happens I have room to get out. I will shoot if I have to but if I can leave I will. Sometimes people don't think that the other guy can have a gun to. Again great video hope I get to meet you some day. Take care.
My daughter was always a hothead. For example, one day, she was cut off by a woman using her cell phone and this woman was oblivious to what she did. When my daughter caught up to her she snatched the phone out of her hands and threw it across the highway! After she got her permit, she had worse incidents but now she knows about the higher standard and is very calm. Pretty weird how that works.
I got my CHL as a Christmas gift this year and I find myself a lot more relaxed when I am carrying. It all comes down to your state laws in situations like that. However, I think a firearm should be used as a last resort. In Texas Police Officers like CHL holders because they tend to be very good citizens.
I agree. I guess I wouldn't have gotten out of the car. I have a few friends who were involved in RRage incidents and nothing ever comes out good. One was arrested the other sued in civil court and lucky his homeowners ins. paid out the settlement. I've been in a bunch and admit 2 times I lost my temper (was young). I should tell a few of my stories! I agree, concealed means you have the advantage but you need to dress right and avoid bad habits that give "tells" to others you are armed.
As an NRA instructor, States of awareness are in lesson 1, and as in my class last Saturday, the students hadn't realized how often they are unaware, now hopefully they are. I have one question (NOT CRITICIZING YOU!) When the guy was running at you, why couldn't you just drive off? was your car incapacitated? Just wondering, after all, another part of lesson 1 of our class is the best way to avoid a confrontation is to not be there. Remind me to never get you angry enough to punch me. :)
@Az1911fan I did not know which way I was facing, was there a canal next to me? etc, after spinning in circles in the grass at 50MPH I was disoriented
@weaponseducation if you had shot the guy even with the 45acp it carries around 330 ft-lbs of force 1 shot to the torso would have stopped the charge and the man probably would have lived the officer would have seen it was justified
You at 6'5" and him at 5'8", you would have been pot rayed as using excessive force if you shot him but if he were the bigger guy then you would be seen as defending yourself. You did the right thing because it worked but every situation is different and you have nano-seconds to decide.
Awesome point. During police training one of the things you are trained to do is to assess the situation, determining wether its a shoot or no shoot scenario. Both LEO's and permit holders have to make simular decisions (if they can difuse the situation without lethal force)
Someone runs me off the road and then comes running at me my first thought is to just drive away, if he wants to jump under my car I'll let him. But if my gf is ahead of me I can't risk him having a weapon and taking me out with her coming back to check on me and then getting her involved as well. I would rather draw on an unarmed man trying to start something then risk a psychopath killing my girlfriend. And I accept that if i end up shootinga unarmed man charging at me it is going to get messy
You have to explain less about what you are going to talk and just say it, a video it´s not like a text and does not need such wide explanations. nice videos but too long.
Agree with everything u r saying as usual. I myself would worry about using different systems everyday (SA, DA, DAO, etc.) I guess I am someone who just gets used 2 the same thing over & over again so I don't want to change.
For someone who wants 2 b a new gun owner I would say get a compact pistol in 9mm, not a full size. Full size r 4 cops & military. 2 hard 2 conceal carry. Don't get a mini either. Not shooter friendly. Maybe a S&W M&P 9c or similiar. Good for range and daily carry IMO.
Hello, I am very interested in firearms and have recently started my collection, I am your so I still live with my mother and she is extremely against me owning firearms. Could you recommend some ways for me to make her more comfortable with firearms and me owning them?
I always look to avoid a conflict even if I look like a wuss. lol But I will use deadly force if I have no choice. I've been carrying a Glock 21 for four months with my CPL and I think it was worth it.
Tom, you handled yourself well. You quickly access the situation, you did not see weapon, you size yourself to the threat, you did not have your wife/family with you. Your concern was to protect yourself. Your size and fist was the correct action. The outcome is possible, If you had shot, you would not have been able to live with yourself. You won't be able to explain to anyone to see it your way. The headline would be " 6'5' bodybuilder man shot an un-arm man"
I don't understand why you would keep switching gun carry locations. In a shoot/don't shoot decision you have a split second to deside to draw, you don't want to try and remember where you gun is being kept on that day. Find the right gun, holster, and best carry spot for you and stick with it. Then practice, practice, practice. A back-up gun you can move from place to place.
Could not have said it better Tom. As a permit holder it is your duty to exhaust all other options up to and including trying to remove yourself from the situation before you decide to draw your weapon. And if you draw your firearm, you better be prepared to use it. People truly need to ask themselves if they could do that. Use their firearm to take another life in defense of yourself or others. If you can't positively answer that question, nobody will think less of you. But only you can decide.
Great topic, I think that while in the process of getting your carry permit you should maybe carry your firearm around while in your home in the manner you will in public in order to get used to the feeling and to find out what your precered carry system will be. I believe this will train you in how to act move and train yourself on how to act to keep your gun concealled and safe. Once you obtain the permit you will be more prepared to carry in public
Tom you are the man my friend, this is why I support your channel, look brother I have to be honest with you, I had to do what I had to do in Iraq and believe me that's the last thing I ever want to do again, but I would not hesitate if I ever have to do it again, but again being home is a lot different and you open my eyes to a lot of things, thanks for the good info brother God Bless.
I don't think one should shoot someone over a case of drunken road rage . If the guy has a deadly weapon of some sort....thats a totally different story.
I will be getting a CCW this year, but one of my fears has always been what if I am carrying and some idiot on the road puts me in a corner....When you're carrying a gun, the last thing you should be in is a fist fight.
Awesome video im a huge fun of your channel and this was a excelent video for your ccw holders such as myself...also if its not to much to ask could you possibly do a review on rock island 1911's i have one and love it but want to know your thoughts on it and how it compares to your other 1911's thanks....
if i am carrying a firearm i am not in any situation going to first fight or let them get in arms reach, if i draw down on you, and you do not stop i am going to shoot you, remember there is always someone who can kick your ass, and you never know who it is he could be bigger smaller or on drugs, most cops get shot with thier own guns that were taken from them
Hey Tom I'm sure you still have plenty up your sleeve but I want you to know that I am really expecting/looking forward to your work with the election and would like you to keep us all in the look with what you are doing politically. Thanks.
I have been a ccw holder in Missouri, but i have the Florida license. I am trying to get my wife and my mother to go through the course to get theirs. Thanks for this vid!
Great article on concealed carry.NC laws have changed since December 1st to the point a ccw carrier doesn't have to back off from a would be person who is going to harm you.You can not be held civil liable if found innocent in a shooting. If a person breaks in your residence at night it is considered a felony and shot on sight. We can carry in a restaurant if it doesn't sell alcohol. We can now carry on government parking property if the weapon is secured in your vehicle. NRA has done a lot for us.
Good video, I would also add that if you do heaven forbid have to use your firearm in self defense that you should not explain the whole story to the police when they arrive. Just like you said you are guilty until proven innocent. If you had shot that guy you would of had to make statements to multiple different police investigators and if you say something different to one officer than you do another than they will see that as inconsistency. When I took my ccw class my instructor said to us t
nice vid Tom, I just recieved my ccw permit, so this is all something to take in. Living in Az it is legal to carry concealed, but I took the course because I wanted to learn the right way to do it. Keep up the entertaining vids..God Speed
Tom I really liked your video but I wonder what might have happened if the other guy was 6'5" and you were 5'7". The tables being turned in this way I think would constitute a little more fear for bodily harm/death. The guy already assaulted you with a deadly weapon and then comes after you and charges. I am sure in that situation you and most other people would have at least pulled your gun to send the message. I agree you need to do everything you can to defuse the situation first.
@chrizzis77 Great point, now that we have the Castile Doctrine in FL & the stand your ground law, that changes things, but every situation comes down to a nano second split decision, that is what this video is about, great input
@weaponseducation I agree tom, although my state does not allow me to carry I think about these things being a firearm owner. I think its a matter of using proper judgement and adapting depending on the situation. If a gun owner feels they have the upper hand they should not be drawing their weapon. If you felt like in your car situation that person in a drunken rage could have killed you, pulling your gun might have been a necessary move.
Great video Tom!! It's the people that pull their guns in situations like that who make it difficult for the rest of us. That guy could have just been someone's dad/husband who was having a really bad night. Unless he pulled a weapon first I say you totally did the right thing. Keep the great info coming!
if i think somebody just wants to fight i probally wouldnt pull my gun but if i believe that they mean to do serious physical harm more then just something like a fist fight i may draw but that would be the only reasaon
I agree with you Tom that if you choose to carry a gun you need to train often if fact i think if you carry a gun you should also look into professional training if you are able too because you will learn far more than you will with just the CCW class!!! Graet Vid
Tom we should give you a nickname like Tom aka "Fist of Death" The nickname for the Barret M92A1 .50 BMG Rifle Bro that was awesome X10 Buddy Way to Go
I know a guy who teaches the cwp course here in SC. This video you have made would be awesome to show a class of students about to take the cwp course. One heck of a job Tom! The info you are putting out is dynamic and on the cutting edge of the world in which we live. I don't know how you do it bro!
Great video. You're right, your overall attitude and behavior changes when you legally carry. Here in Rhode Island pistol permits are hard to get, so law enforcement doesn't see them often. Besides knowing when deadly force is authorized, knowing what to do when encountering law enforcement and what to do after using deadly force is important. You do a fantastic job with your channel. Keep up the good work.
A great way to fight the anti-gun crowd is to bring as many folks as you can to the gun range and responsibly teach them about our 2nd amendment rights and the proper way to handle guns.
@jolow2 I talk to everyone I know who do not like guns, then pursue them to go to the range with me, it always works! Then they all of a suddenly" understand"
Well, if i carry my gun around, like u do, which is very smart, do u have to carry ur permit with u as well? Just in case if someone ask's for it?

@weaponseducation i would first like to say i do have a ton of respect for what you're trying with this channel you have a lot of great content however i think some of your videos namely the one you renamed "busted? no gun for you!" makes you appear a little to harsh towards who you consider "criminals" the state cannot afford to keep everyone in prison forever and often it is good to go lenient on people unless they are the most violent of offenders.
tubevideoguy762 1 month ago

Great vid btw.

I love to have family time and not to worry!
eightgeorge 1 month ago
@eightgeorge The UK is a perfect example of horrible gun laws, rioting & total mayhem. I watch the news in your wonderful country closely. I feel bad for you guys...
weaponseducation 1 month ago
@weaponseducation There are some gun crimes here in the UK but a lot less % than the US given the size. The rioting was bad but it did not last long, The LA riots were bad and citizens had to defend there property because the police weren't around, this was the same with the UK riots(It could have been worst). I totally understand where your coming from, but I would rather not have guns than everyone walking around with a gun, it takes great training to use your gun in a stressful situation.

LVen21 1 month ago

A back-up gun you can move from place to place.
lurch2150 1 month ago
Could not have said it better Tom. As a permit holder it is your duty to exhaust all other options up to and including trying to remove yourself from the situation before you decide to draw your weapon. And if you draw your firearm, you better be prepared to use it. People truly need to ask themselves if they could do that. Use their firearm to take another life in defense of yourself or others. If you can't positively answer that question, nobody will think less of you. But only you can decide.
MAGICBIRDS90 1 month ago
Great topic, I think that while in the process of getting your carry permit you should maybe carry your firearm around while in your home in the manner you will in public in order to get used to the feeling and to find out what your precered carry system will be. I believe this will train you in how to act move and train yourself on how to act to keep your gun concealled and safe. Once you obtain the permit you will be more prepared to carry in public

NRA has done a lot for us.

Good video, I would also add that if you do heaven forbid have to use your firearm in self defense that you should not explain the whole story to the police when they arrive. Just like you said you are guilty until proven innocent.
