Ronno is my guitar God---somewhere along the line Mick decided to play 'second fiddle' i.e Ian Hunter, and that is just fine with me. It was always Mick's playing/producing that got me. Find the legendary Ian Hunter concert at the Cleveland Agora from 1979 via torrent
yes, there was a 'crotch -hand' on Dave but ABC found it tooooo risque for 1973,even after 1:am, whereever we may have all resided that weekend in 1973,time zone, telly laws etc.....Dave painted that entire Marquue Club to appear 'larger' upon the shoot, but in the end ,he hated the result,as it really appeared no larger in depth or space...
ABC telly cut the going down on Mick moments....out the original...you see the fellas laughing , but no cam shot...I was 15 and saw the entire uncut the following weekend in Toronto,Canada at a head shop on Yonge St....loooooong before video was ever so on the market...all best n thanks for the memories kid...Dr. Jeff

what are they doing between 3:05 and 3:30,i cant actually tell...it looks like hes just fiddling with something behind his back and the pushes him away?
Interestingly enough... I have just worked it out, the end of the guitar has got tagled within the netting of Bowie costume at the back, and he is discreetly trying to detech it, and David is covering him by resting his arm on his shoulder.
@DJOfRadioGallifrey - Well done, that's exactly what it looks like! Ronno does a nice little two-step away from Bowie once detangled. I just finished Mick's Bio, and started to cry on the subway (tube) 'cause the part about his cancer came up while i was reading it on the way home....God Bless Mick Ronson. He deserves so much more credit, and I think he's finally getting it.
Oh, and forget the hand over crotch ,banned idea. You clearly see the camera in the solo, going away to the guitarist,as David went down on Mick's axe.
Gemma they painted, in black mind you, the entire walls of the Marquee Club, as David thought it would add depth to the filming, but as one can see ,that idea did not pan out...that is all documented in Mick Rock's ;Ziggy S. ', book...great for all these ancdotal type facts.
I read that there was also a hand piece that covered the crotch of Bowie's costume but, that had to be removed because of so-called censorship issues.
Funny thing is my wife made me this costume for her 40th party in May this year-I thought it was brilliant -the other party goers though I was from another planet!-she even made me the false hands-these worked a treat everyone kept saying-'who's behind you.!
I have this on the bootleg DVD its the 1980 Floor Show, of course.Shot at the Marquee Club,London,U.K. in Oct.1973 over the course of three days.
The only segment you will NOT see is when David goes down on Ronson's guitar strings...all one sees is a band member looking on,kind of smirking.ABC could NOT show this back in the day...I was 16 and saw it the very eve it aired,on the legendary program, The Midnight Special.
You got to love that costume.I mean Bowie a hundred years from now ,when you and I and Bowie are pushing up dasies,in that costume will be just as fresh that November day in '73 when this video was made...utter classic....
That is not why it was called 1980 floor show! He obviously retained the right to call his song 1984. He did not "love" it. Merely had a concept album idea that she fought because he was polite enough to ask for certAIN PERMISSIONS. aLWAYS THE GENTLEMAN. pEACE ON,,,,,,,,,,,,,, OOPS, GOD DAMNED CAPS LOCK, FUCKING KEYBOARDS ARE FOR PUNY PAWS!
a song title is a song title, he didn't have to have the rights to the novel to call the song "1984". and actually, if you read anything on bowie you'd see the reason he loved the novel was because at a time he was deep into nazi occultism and fascist ideas (during his drug phase of course). and the concept album came out of a failed attempt to make a theatrical version of the novel. it wasn't the album orwell's wife fought, she just didn't give him the rights to do a play of the novel.
All known and noted. Nothing to do with the title of 1980. Why would it? He, again, retained the right to name the song 1984 so why not this show which hardly saw any real air time? Had no rip off of her dead drugged out husband. Peace on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I've got the show on DVD as a 3rd generation copy. These outtakes are stunning. The final show is a mess of cuts but this shows that Bowie wasn't playing the harmonica as the final cut does
this stuff rocks it big time, ronson was such a brilliant player. His whole approach to his guitar work was so full of balls, energy and passion, nobody came near mick ronson..ever.
Gabrels, Fripp, Frampton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Carlos Alomar... nobody came close to Ronno! (Yup, I didn't include Earl Slick cos he was a waste of space...)
bowie's touching of mick's hair was because mick was out of it and in danger of distracting the show from bowie, bowie was trying to embarass mick back down
looks like Ronno's axe started to play a second before he actually started,I see now why this is an outake.

OBVIOUSLY. It was only called 1980 Floor Show due to Bowie's love for 1984 the novel, but George Orwell's wife wouldn't give him the rights.
