Knock off with the Coast Guard vs. Navy. I personally are going through MEPs through the Navy for AIRR and the testing is similar for both. Only major difference is Navy has more missions WetSide where Coast Guard do much more DrySide. Wetside=internation missions, dryside=American land and or water. Both deserve your respect and appreciation for putting their lives aside for people that have never met before in their lives.
Okay enough with the Coast Guard vs. Navy. To set things straing, the Navy started the rescue swimmer school and the coast guard used to have to go through that before they had their own. They are both live savers and both have hard training but one big thing that sets Navy apart from Coast Guard rescue is that the Navy also does land based missions that the Coast Guard arnt even trained for. Navy is trained in more areas but that doesnt make them better. STOP COMPARING THEM.
I don't see the point in comparing Navy rescue swimmers to the coast guard, these guys are genuine heroes and everyone ought to be proud of them regardless. Instead of comparing the two you should realize that to become a rescue swimmer anywhere is challenging and from what I can tell, it's a rewarding experience. To anyone that aspires to become a part of this, good luck.
@nicolas1999444 Maybe. That's what's been happening lately. Don't waste our time or go to any of these places with a chip on your shoulder. We don't like it.
@nicolas1999444 Sorry. I'm a ARSS Instructor and we get a lot of BUDS DUDS that walk around like we owe them something. Go through whatever program that you are already one of them and you're just proving yourself to the instructors.
manbeast222 I have 20/30 vision and I got into the rescue swimmer program, and i wrecked the physical exam, I go in November. But basically your vision doesn't have to be 20/20 is what i'm trying to say
I am so proud of my son, Kody Webb (19)/contract is Aviation Rescue Swimmer. He leaves in Nov.2010 for boot camp. But, trains wkly until H.S. Graduation. He works out every day apx 2 hrs+, runs 10-20 miles each run 3-5x wk. He lives for this kind of stuff, he is excited every week he comes in for PST/training. They told him he made better time than all 1st timers in their 20 yrs exp! & he's Intelligent critical thinker, big heart, & lovesChess team/tournaments! I am the proudest mother ever
@brandonberg1 you should pass but in boot depending on your age you need to do 55 pushups, but if you can do all taht youll pass its mostlly mental i got med discharge in rescue swimmer school after graduating aircrew school.
Spent a day with the SAR helicopter crewmen up at NAS Whidbey. Which happens to be the NAS this was filmed at. Great bunch of guys. Makes me feel a little safer.
@21ROYIK21 I have 20/2400 vision....basically almost legally blind yet I just got BARELY accepted into the Navy. But for a job like this, your vision must be about 20/20 (or better) I want this job, but I'm enlisting as a regular sailor and gonna do office work until Im 20 so I can get Laser-Eye surgery to become qualified for this job. CAN'T WAIT!!! And btw, Navy pays for the surgery :)

"best job in the Navy?" Perhaps. That's all relative. Some say the best job is SEALs, SWCC, or EOD ...
