People take no interest in politics anymore and like it or not it will come back to haunt them, or the next generation. I'll bet they'll pay attention when they lose everything they own to the government.
The State is a condition, a certain relationship between human beings, a mode of behaviour; we destroy it by contracting other relationships, by behaving differently toward one another … We are the State and we shall continue to be the State until we have created the institutions that form a real community.
there is no answer fools. live ------> die. get rich, step on ppl in the process. stay poor, be oppressed. OH YEA, str8edge??????? moderation is the key to all happiness, so crack a beer or blow a doobie u cunt. (your government lies)
I don't think anarchy is the answer, but nonetheless the system IS broken and needs vast improvments. Jello makes some excellent points in this song, and that bassline gives me the fucking chills.
well..... i hate it lmao. how could u love america?! how can u love any country with their imaginary lines of hate.... give me a break... all countries suck. i love america to the extent of the people. i guess when i say fuck america, i suppose more like capitalism. totalitarianism... racism... facism.. things which we arnt born with, but taught...... I love people, people arnt the problem, individually... I think its more of a society thing.... oh too much to explain, my 500 characters are up.
the first time i ever felt like crying after listening to a punk song... tears of joy that is. 40 years ago and the only thing that i can say i disagree with is a religion tax. maybe just some sort of support for religions other than christianity
@tehmoozorz Religions are businesses, they deserve to be taxed just like any other for.-profit enterprise. Especially with preachers pushing their politics from the pulpit.
@vexgodglove religion is faith, not business. the problem is that many religions, namely the christian ones, act out of line and often outside boundaries of their own religion. believe it or not, there are places of religion, christian or no, that do use donations strictly for upkeep of the church and necessary supplies. its a large and complex argument, just dont push away the issue because some idiots use religion as a tool.
@tehmoozorz Individuals have faith, religions are institutions. Religion differs from faith in the same way governments differ from voluntary cooperatives.
There is no rational argument for allowing churches to be tax free when no other organisations are. If everyone else has to pay taxes on property and profits, so should they. Eliminate all taxes on income and profit and you'll have a good argument, but there is no reason to grant religious institutions special priviliges,
@vexgodglove. It's a massive mis-allocation of resources too. These giant facilities rarely include shelters for the poor and seem under-utilized. You'd expect churches to be open so that poor kids, teens and even young adults can have a place where they can interact and even study. This is impossible when most of these over sized crack houses are largely closed.
@streetphysician W'eve been listening in Europe since it was released. Fucking hate you mentally lazy americans. Wipe your asses with your flag and show it to your neighbour, fucking cowards.
By god Jello, you've figured out our real solution, you know how much money goes into religion? I can't believe I never thought of that. Fucking brilliant, now we just gotta make it happen somehow...
@evildaveprime no one will ever listen, people are too damn stupid and brainwashed to believe a word of this song despite how true it is, and others may agree with it but are too lazy to do a thing about.
@phuse99 Don't hate this country - work to fix it, as per the lyrics: "Tell me who's the real patriots / The Archie Bunker slobs waving flags? / Or the people with the guts to work / For some real change"
lmao thats funny dude..i dont the jello biafra would sue you..im pretty sure hes happy that youre just helping spread his influence. but seeing that comment made my fuckin day lmao...that was great. "please dont sue im to poor to afford a lawyer" ahh thats great...fyi though i think every punk is to poor to afford a lawyer except garret fisbeck..but hes a fucking poser anyways lmao
@emerpus01 thats awesome...the commercial for one of the skate videos i saw said to buy it with your hard earned money...or someone elses lmao. but come to think of it...jello might not sue..but east bay ray prolly would...he went as far as to sue jello for the rights to dead kennedys...which is some kind of major fucked up
@ctojuggalo7 true it is fucked up but Ray and the rest of the members of the band feel that way if DK is a democratic organization (as I understand) then the majority has the right to decide how to use the product of their labor. I gotta give props to the rest of the band - Jello may have influenced my politics but the DKs influenced my musical tastes just as much.
@emerpus01 hmm. as true as that may be..the only reason that east bay ray won that lawsuit was because he said he wrote all those songs...but jello makes the point that..if he made all of those songs then why has he not made anything new? so...think about this...it may be a democratic organization..but theyre just as fucked up as the politics they so strongly hate for using falselyhood. and they became the thing the so strongly stood against.
"Tell me who's the real patriots the Archie Bunker slobs wavin' flags or the people with guts to work for some real change" Wake up America. Re - elect No One.
Madison's constitution was written to be changed, adapted to times and circumstances that he could not predict. That was its brilliance. "Returning to the Constitution" - what does that mean? Our whole system is completely founded on the constitution; we have never gotten away from the constitution. The moment we do, you'll know: America will start looking a hell of a lot more like some kind of Orwellian dystopia than it does today.
@CapitalistOverlord the economic freedoms represented only part of what was fought for the revolutionary war. obviously, every man fought for his own personal reasons, but the point behind it for many was that britain didn't know what the hell it was like the colonies, and yet chose to impose its will. they felt a division, and then felt pressured. basically, they left home. that's how it goes.
it is impossible -- because of people. you cannot find a group of people who, when placed in a situation in which it would be easy to seize control and take more for themselves, would not do it. i am not a pessimist - but that is human nature.
i think this song is truly brilliant, and jello and the kennedys, by extension, are brilliant because they understand that. anarchy, socialism, communism - these are the systems for a utopia. this is not a world of perfect people. thus, imperfect system.
No, anarchy does not necessarily mean no organized education, though it does mean no government and hence no taxation. The important center of anarchy - that everyone is EQUAL, of the same value - is definitely preached in this song. Anarchy, however beautiful, is actually impossible, so this is for the next best thing: a country with a balanced government and citizens who think.
Also: religion is not necessarily mindless, that's a generalization like "all punks are thugs" - clearly untrue.
@inkblackRose GREAT WORDS AND AWESOME INSIGHT!!!!Less government is the BEST government!!!!That's what our Fore-Fathers fought and died for.Our Constitution is DEAD-SET AGAINST big government!!!!If you haven't yet....listen to what Congressman Dr.Ron Paul has been saying!!!!The Man is a TRUE PATRIOT and a TRUE CONSTITUTIONALIST!!!!Our Constitution stands for FREEDOM!!!!And ANARCHY is TRUE FREEDOM!!!!!"POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!!!POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!!"~John Lennon

fucking amazing message and a absolutely triumphant piece of music.
Wake the fuck up everyone, understand that anarchy is the only way to ensure freedom. We need to practice what this song preaches, what Dead Kennedys are all about, take a stand for your life, don't just be a conformist brain-dead slave, take back whats yours! :D
DK have confirmed in a lot of interviews that they are anarchists. And organized education doesn't necessarily mean a state-organized one. Taxation can exist in a an anarchist society if its voluntary. The song speaks more about how the American Dream is ruined, and how we as a humanity need to look for better alternatives.
@derekchewie11 Agreed, as long as by "anarchy" you mean true self-rule. Many punkers I've met over the last 30 years think "anarchy" means having a "circle A" on the back of their leather jacket as they collect their food stamps.
best dead kennedys song ever. the first time i heard this was in middle school. the hairs raised on my arms and i knew what justice was, and i listened to it for days after that to help remind myself.
@sindrole While I was reading this comment, I was listening to it for the first time, and the exact same thing happened man, I got fucking chills. This is fantastic.
Age makes no difference, little guy. The members of Gang Green were 15 when they started their band, and people are still raving about them today (well... before they started playing frat-core almost exclusively about gratuitous sex and drug abuse... I wouldn't advocate that route). Try looking up "Gang Green Kill a Commie" for a taste. Maybe your friends will like it too and you could get something started. That's how it happens, bro.
D.R.I. is another band that started around that age
I was in my first band at age fifteen...I'm thirty-seven now and I'm still doing it.And our vocalist is SIXTEEN!!!!OriginalName90 is exactly correct...that IS how it happens.Best of luck to you and your endeavors!!!!!
i wish that more people would identify with this music because it is still relevant today...but i think that the dead kennedys music has too much substance for a lot of today's people, their heads might explode.
absolute brilliance and talent..i always loved DK because they would always have parts in their songs, little additions and stuff. Not to mention,Easy Bay Ray was one hell of a guitar player.

"We won't destroy society in a day, Unless we change ourselves first, From the inside out"
A Liberatarion salute (of sorts) to you

This song is far more relevant today in 2003-present than it ever was in 1985.

who cares about your age

Age makes no difference, little guy. The members of Gang Green were 15 when they started their band, and people are still raving about them today (well... before they started playing frat-core almost exclusively about gratuitous sex and drug abuse... I wouldn't advocate that route). Try looking up "Gang Green Kill a Commie" for a taste. Maybe your friends will like it too and you could get something started. That's how it happens, bro.

nice song i like it, thanks man

D.R.I. is another band that started around that age
I was in my first band at age fifteen...I'm thirty-seven now and I'm still doing it.And our vocalist is SIXTEEN!!!!OriginalName90 is exactly correct...that IS how it happens.Best of luck to you and your endeavors!!!!!

There are not many people left that could do what the Dead Kennedys have done. I once was blind but now i see. Thanks Dead Kennedys.

"I once was blind but now i see"... is the perfect summary of what the Dead Kennedys did for me aswell
kylecyclopdoddsmole 2 years ago 9
False. YOU can do what the Dead Kennedys have done. That's the whole point.

A real social manifest.. ..

i wish that more people would identify with this music because it is still relevant today...but i think that the dead kennedys music has too much substance for a lot of today's people, their heads might explode.

absolute brilliance and talent..i always loved DK because they would always have parts in their songs, little additions and stuff. Not to mention,Easy Bay Ray was one hell of a guitar player.
They were not plain to say the last.
