my favourite tune by my favourite band!!! thanx for getting this up!! was 18 in 1983 and had just been lent a tape of black market by the barguy at coach n horses, munich, cos that blew me away, and lo n behold they turn up in town touring "procession" and I never looked back!! lucky enuff to see them once more with steve khan instead of wayne as weather update in london, and catch the syndicate a few times as well....simply awesome! met joe after a gig at ronnie scotts on faces places tour purejoy
Man Omar is killin it! This is the greatest band ever all of the Weather Report groups and Gary Bartz told me you should hear them with the BROTHERS!Whew I gotta live recording off jazzfusion tv and Omar does some of the best drumming I ever heard anywhere! The dynAmics of this edition is so breathtaking and their patience is unbelievable, Wayne and Joe always preferred to sing and are at times percussive and the percussion is so melodic.-FC
@FCntertainr I meant all the Weather report editions are the best groups if the last 25 yrs of the millenium, century etc. JZ and WS came out of the best and continued Art Blakey, Maynard Ferguson, Miles, Cannon- FC
Wonderful! Believe me when I tell just how long I've been trying to find a live video version of Procession... This is great, what a set opener this tune is...I just love Zawinul's loping, serpentine grooves - so much attitude. Thankyou very much for posting this.
The first time I heard Procession was when I was watching this late night jazz show on cable TV. They played a music video for it which was part of The Evolutionary Spiral (Sony) Video 45. Back then, I didn't know what or who I was listening to but - both visually and musically - I couldn't get it out of my head. By now, most of these tapes probably have been buried in some landfill - where most current popular music should be - however if anyone can find a copy can you please, please, post it?
I want to buy this! I only have it live on Zawinul's Brown Street album....The only hakim/bailey stuff on DVD is the domino theory one too....this has so much GROOVE!!!
@Jamspots I get the feeling a lot is being lost in the translation of this performance to video. If this vid had been shot today, they'd be able to depict the communication amongst the musicians better. Im a firm believer that even video is just an interpretation of a live performance. Its still not the real thing.
This is my favourite tune by Weather Report! Thanks for posting.

That's Austria's contribution to Jazz - and it*s not too bad!
Joe Zawinul died 2007 in Vienna after his worldwide career.

Genius piece of music. Saw this edition of WR 26 years ago today in England 5.6.83. If you have any other footage, please post.
Many thanks.
