I see. I can officially take back the previous opinion =) I think the DC Metro area REALLY needs to expand light commuter rail, bike trails, walking paths, bus transit and get some of the people in the suburbs taking mass transit into the city core. Although.. the mass transit has to be available first. I live in Portland Oregon where mass transit is King and while visiting DC on several occasions I really missed the easy mass transit access.
Portland is very nice. Visited there once, but it was about 20 years ago. Weather was outstanding during the time I was there.
The U.S. has no money left for infrastructure. $185 Billion (with a B) is going to Afghanistan every year. Osama never did want to destroy the U.S. by killing everyone. He's too smart to think he could get away with that. He just tricked us into destroying our economy. And our leaders are still falling for his plan.... but that's getting way off the subject.
In the pm, going from MD to VA, the Outer Loop is traveling against most of the traffic, so I was moving along OK. However, when I got on I-66 it is another world. It is still always backed up at rush hour. Nothing has improved since I posted this video 2 years ago.
Looks like you are on the Outer Loop going into Virginia on the Cabin John, er, American Legion Bridge, a commute I made in the mid-1980s. But I went home to MD from VA; judging from the traffic I saw, the other way was worse, except on Fridays, when lots of cars with PA plates jammed the spur to I270. And I listed to WASH, too, and probably heard Kenny Loggins a lot!
Actually, when I commuted, going from MD to VA in the AM on the Outer Loop and from VA to MD in the PM on the Inner Loop was the relatively easier way to go. Except on Fridays, when native Pennsylvanians went home for the weekend up the I-270 spur. (Shouldn't be too critical because I live in PA now!)
All the highways around metro areas are getting too crowded, out of date and dangerous. At least one of the bridges on the DC beltway is constructed just like the one that colapsed in Minn. After we save the Iraqis from themselves, I wonder if they will give us back billions of dollars to help us save ourselves.
Hmmm... I must have missed that newscast. I did not know that we were stealing oil. I thought Haliburton was too busy collecting money from the US Treasury for its contracts over there to have time to steal any oil.
The only bad part about the pa turnpike is the constant state of construction. The beltway is also in a constant state of construction, and it has TOO many people on it, most of whom can't drive. Not to mention the random back ups that spawn for no apparent reason.
yeah now try going at 8 till midnight that they're repaving! took me an hour and a half to go from wheaton to rockville pike then i just took 270 which is MUCH better
what's the problem? This guy is cruising. The beltway is usually much more congested with much worse drivers than the ones he enjoyed his flowing commute with.
You obviously did not watch to the end. I was going against the traffic for much of the ride, but it caught me in the 'end.' Notice also the traffic coming in the other direction - bumper to bumper much of the time. I also thought it was quite a coincidence that the music and commentary on the radio sort of followed my thoughts as I was driving along.

Look at the traffic coming from the opposite direction, then watch to see what happens at the end :-)

If they would extend the Metrorail to Frederick, some of this traffic would go away. The MARC train just doesn't carry enough people.
wvd1979 2 years ago
How long is your commute btw?
2004JETTA 2 years ago
I only do that once in a while. When I do, I dread the drive.
Casey2327 2 years ago
There has to be construction as many ppl that drive on that thing daily

Yup, Outer Loop - at the time VERY glad that I wasn't going the other way. But watch to the end and you see what happens when I get on I-66.

squirt semen all over the beltway.

The inner loop of the Beltway has regular insufferable PM congestion from the Cabin John Bridge past the 270 split to Georgia Avenue.

... and the reverse is likely true in the AM.

It's getting worse all the time. 10 years from now it will be solid gridlock because the beltway cannot be widened :(
I'm planning to move out of this area within the next few years.
