thank you sooooo much for making this video. Im going on my fourth month post relaxer and starting to learn to work with my new growth. I'm definitely going to take all your tips into consideration cause youre one of the few natural ladies on youtube who actually care about OTHER people's hair journey. I'm gonna finish watching the rest of you videos now and thank you sooo much for inspiring me.
Thank you for posting this! Your video gave me lots of inspiration to follow thru w/ long term transitioning. I'm just about to begin my long term-transition in a couple of weeks...
Love the information. Thank you I am a new transitioner for the second time just like you;) I feel I will do better this time because I am better educated about my hair. I still have a lot more to learn but so far I feel I am doing great! I luv my new growth and the fact that I can long term transition, and not have to worry about cutting my hair right now!
This is excellent! Thanks! I tried to transition before while I was working and going to school full-time, but the detangling took SO long that I just didn't have time for it. I'm starting to transition again (only about 2 months post, but probably more since my last relaxer didn't take in some places), so I look forward to using your videos to help me this time around.
@huneebunch1901 I detangle my hair in the shower. As for time: Have you tried the baggy method? It might help you save some time in between work and school, I use ti myself when things get hasty.
@alisadm The baggy method is a way of deep conditioning your hair on the go. For instance, I add my moisturizing deep conditioner to my ends (or whole head), then apply a plastic cap or a zip lock bag, after which I wear a hat. I tend to wear the knit beret kind of hat. I look cute and presentable, and people don't even know that I'm deep conditioning my hair. =) It's great because it prevents your hair from getting tangled if you've detangled and it also protects your ends. Length retention!
Hello, am about 6months post relaxer. I'm getting breakage almost everytiime I do my hair, its not always as bad n I Dnt really mind to much. I deep condition once a week also co wash. Do u have any tips to minimizing the breakage?
Hi, tomorrow im going to make 7 months of post relaxer, the other day i blew out my hair for church. it was a mess cause my natural hair was so puffy and it is lighter than my relaxed hair, so when there is a lot of humidity going on it turn out to be chaos. so my friend was telling me that i need a relaxer. this means that she doesnt support the idea of me being natural and it made me feel a little down cause coming from my culture, a woman only looks good when she has straight hair. help plz
@zmoreno71 i woman looks good when she feels good!! going nautral is a personal choice and if people dont support you where your from, than look around at all the people commenting on this video! we do! keep going dont let their words stop you! :)
Finally, I found a true long term tranistioner. LHDC, you have the best tips I've ever heard. I just reached my year hair journey 8/6/11 and have 5 inches of new growth and about 4 inches left of perm. I already have my trimming scheduled for every 2 mons. I am getting very excited but really want to long term tranistion for another year. Thank you for taking the time to give us your learning experiece.
Thanks for the video, as always they are helpful. But I do have to disagree about the definition of "natural hair". Women who wear braidouts and twistouts aren't wearing their hair in it's "natural state" either. Unless you are rocking an afro, realistically you are not wearing your hair in it's "natural" state. I think that natural hair is simply hair that is not processed with chemicals:)
Just my thoughts, but I will continue to look forward to your vids!
@morganeblack84 congrats on 8 months into your transition! my definition of natural hair is:
hair, that when wet down with water, returns to the state/texture/curl pattern which grows NATURALLY from your scalp
for me, this includes chemically processed, heat trained/damaged and/or any other treatment that alters the hair to the point that when the hair is soaked, the roots are a different texture than the ends
this is why braid/twist out styles ARE natural & heat damaged hair is not
@morganeblack84 I'd consider those natural hair. It's just like putting your hair into a ponytail. It doesn't make it any less natural, it's just a style. There are many ways to style natural hair, braids, twist outs, etc. but that does not make it "non-natural". As long as its the natural texture of the hair that grows from the scalp, I consider it natural. Congrats on your transition, I'm a few months in myself.
@thebeautifulcoils thanks! naw...it's the method i used in video #97. right now i'm preferring this style to my usual twist outs because i don't have to manipulate my hair as much :)
I enjoyed the video; although, im on the fence as far as straightening while transitioning. I am 7 months post, have only straightened once but am considering doing it every so often. Heat may be the "debil," but it was hella easier to comb/detangle my hair! To each his own, right? I will find my way. Thanks for being an inspiration!
@Aja1222 everything in moderation...i heat straightened my hair while transitioning, but i never used it as my primary method of blending my ends or to "train" my new growth. you will definitely find your way! you're doing the right thing by simply hanging in there!
Excellent video. I feel like this is exactly what I needed. It touched on all of my questions and difficulties. I was overjoyed when I saw the word "detangle." That's what I'm struggling with now. THANK YOU.
This is such a great informative video! Thanks so much for taking the time to put this together. I'm currently 9 months into my transition. Goal: 20 months. So far my transition has been easy breezy (but hasn't always been). Thanks for the tips!!!
we recorded a video about some of the same things at the same time.......great minds think alike this was very informative.....I created a video response to this, Thanks for sharing
@vavou951 is it "wrong" for you? what i mean is do you feel that your hair is not benefitting from your deep conditioning process? if your hair is getting what it needs using the process AND products that you're using, then NO it's not "wrong". these tips are meant to guide...at the end of the day you have to use AND do what's best for your hair.
shoot, some would say that rinse out conditioners shouldn't be used as leave-ins...well, it works for me so that's what i do!
I'll make 12 months in August of this year. It is hard to transition for this length of time but I'm so glad I made it to this point. Thanks for this video and inspiration!
i love this video, especially the part about trying to transition for 2 and a half years. too many people rely on a certain time goal and focus too much on that. your hair is beautiful by the way.
Girl you betta SAY that! I am entering my 17 month and I NEVA EVA EVA thought it would be such an emotional/mental challenge. This is sooooo much more than a hairstyle but I am so glad I made the decision. I can't imagine going back to relaxers. I LOVE my hair!!! I agree with everything you said! :)

People always say natural hair takes longer to do. I must have been the only one who spent hours trying to force my hair to get straight.
I guess my hair just did not want to be straight!
