Yeah the rear is covered but it appears bigger. Guess what that means. The 3.8 liter twin turbo is pretty much the biggest possible engine you can stuff into the 997 and it has nearly reached its maximum performance.
Considering the 998 will be a 2011 debut, how long i wonder will the spoiler be covered.. i'm guessing they'll have to test it in public areas some time. can't wait till it's released, the 997 mkII is the car i live for
both nissan gtr and porsche are best super cars.great value for the money.truly i respect both of the cars specially 911 because it introduced turbo charged engine to the world and now it is used by the bugatti veyron
porsche wanted to give the carrera a face lift and discuze the all new speed activated wing ( yes wing not spoiler) it was supossed to be the 998 but for some reason it might not be able to. (btw this a 911 carrera not cayman or tubo) it shall come out in 2011 hopfully and the new GT3s and Turbos willbe on sale in early 2012. (ps i read this out a the Road and TRack magizine
it's not a 998 carrera, it's a 997 turbo cab mk II. Side vents, tail pipes, single wheel nut (as per 997 GT3 mk II) all give it away. The 998 (actually it will be known internally as the 991) has a longer and wider track than the 997. Porsche have modified a 997 shell to disguise the 991. no spy shots exist of the 991 (998) styling.
I've got my name down on the list for a 991 to replace my 997. there's not much you can tell me about porsches my friend.
This is the first facelift Porsche did for the 911 that satisfies me. It's not much but the more slant headlights and the rear is nice. Makes the 911 look less fat and less like a squashed volkswagen beetle. Id suggest they take some styling cues from the old 959 or I think they should add the lines created by the camouflage tape to the design.
obviously theyre going to change the rear, theyre just detouring people from knowing what it will look like when it's finished and ready for the full production
The rear end is being covered to disguise the changes before launch. This is not uncommon when testing future road cars on the street before mass production. They are doing cold weather testing obviously. So for the folks thinking this will be the new rear end you are mistaken.
dude, thats not the next porsche generation- this was a test about alternative energie and porsche just sponsered the cars. look at the sign: lb means Ludwigsburg.
smaller displacement? porsches have fuel economy/performance ratios better than any other car? what the heck are you talking about (a few posts below)? the 911 and boxster are medium sized 6 cylinder engines??? and they pump out 300+HP for the new boxster and nearly 400 HP for the new 911... they also have better built engines than any audi and require less upkeep/maintence. there are a few small probs with the air-oil sep on the older engines but otherwise porsches are almost perfected.
They've just put on a false cover to mask the true identity of the new rear end. They know if that were the real thing nobody would buy it. It's just plain hideous. I'd love to hear Jeremy Clarkson rip on in!
I like the previous model one more. The back of this new ones are ugly. they change the look of the back so much but the front is still almost the same as the old one.
No, that isn't the back, the put a huge metal plate over the rear to disguise it so you can't see what it really looks like, it looks like that because this is the Turbo and Turbo Cabriolet models.
few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand
rumour has porsche are done with straight 6 engines, i too think there aint much more power to extract from a 6 cylinder engine and this new one will have 8 cylinders....maybe thats why the back end is longer, also i dont think think the finished car will look like that...many cars are disguised during productin to obscure the panels of the body
Maybe, but I really doubt it. I mean everyone's going for smaller displacement and fuel economy (look at Audi's new S4, which has an SC V6 instead of a V8), and their smaller engines give Porsche an edge in that sector. I think a more reasonable thing to assume is that they are finally making use of that back seat and giving it more space, perhaps in an effort to move the 911 into a wider marketing sector, maybe to prepare for the new Cayman and Boxter to become more differentiated.
The problem with the design of 911 is that they all look the same. It's boring but at the same time it's what everyone expects a 911 to look like, thats why my feces is more attracttive than this car.
i personally think that rear piece isn't terrible. the tail lights would need to be reworked. it reminds me of the aston dbs with the spoiler that is worked into the body
I have to agree, the 911 is an engineering marvel, has been for years. but it's not the body updates that make it an amazing car, it's the mods to the 6 cylinder they have used in that car forever now. It's the engineering in making a 6 cylinder in that car one of the best performing engines for the money. It's also the engineering in the suspension and drivetrain that makes it an amazing car. The fact that you can drive the car as an everyday ride and still have such amazing performace.
They are not lazy, Just look at their latest Panamera design...... wait a minute, it is just a 911 with 4door... yes I see what u are saying by lazy designer. LOL... And it's not that good looking. All in all, Only good thing that will ever come out of Porsche is the 911 period. And nothing else.
that's the good thing of having a good idea, you can use for a long time even if people say its boring...anyway they're getting richer and we are still buying them.
Basically same car (997) front to door, and then the rear seems a bit taller than current model. Could it be true that it will be powered by an 8 cyclinder? Or gone back to top mounted intercooler? And also Covertible model still soft top? I was expecting it will be some sort of Carbon 3-piece Power folding top.
Tell me about it! That new lamborghini that is meant to be coming out is a prime source of what massive car companys are doing. Porsche should just stick with the same idea with all there amazing cars.
hideous. looks too much like the mitsubishi eclipse. any mitsubishi for that matter. what is that grill thing on the spoiler? ugg. the spoiler looks like a cowlick on a child btw.
also, stupid in that weather.
in these economic times, esp just after the bailouts, why dont you keep your ugly blood-oil cars in europe?
pretty ugly if you ask me
