But it's also a phase.. I mean, I was raised listening to rock music (nothing at all like this, but it was ~classic rock music and blues playing in the house) and I had a year or two when i was 11-13 where I wanted nothing to do with it- listened to rap/pop...
It didn't work, and at 13/14 until... still, i'm far more into the moderately 'extreme' of the "rock style"
I say, to the parents, let her have those couple years, she'll come back to what she was raised on, stronger than ever :P

....but I will not have my child suffer because of what I am going through. Kids deserve patience, care and attention. And there are ALWAYS some who are worse off than we are! I mean seriously, he has a roof over his head, clothes on his back and food on the table....the rest is just gravy and he has to curb his reactions.

I hadn't realized the whole part of Eric admitting he was wrong, he was ashamed and that he was "one stressed out dude"...and though I give him cudos for admitting it, WE ARE ALL STRESSED OUT!!!! In a day of today, economically, socially and medically we ALL have everyday stressors that can and does put us on the edge at times....however, we walk away before taking it out on our kids, at least do. I'm certainly not perfect....

I agree with you to a certain point. But once you get in the cycle of abuse, it really is hard to break out of it. You have to be strong and tough, when you have been slowly, subtly conditioned to believe you can't do it. It can happen to any woman, any race, religion, socio-economic status. I agree that she, and women in her position need to reach out to the help available and move on with out him. I just don't agree with calling her chicken shit.

I love the Goth mom, and I am sure I will run my family similar to it. Family is more important than tons of money -- 40hrs a week is still full-time. What are those kids going to remember? Abuse, and a big lonely house?
As for the young goth kid, the before statements are right. Kids try to mimic their parents, and now she is rebelling to counter culture, just like normal kids rel\bel to THEIR counter culture. It's perfectly normal.

*snort* I was just gonna make a comment on that. I wonder about the wording on this show sometimes. There was another episode where the dad played an organ, and it was something like, "he's left to play with ihs organ alone in the basement." I think juice almost came out of my nose at that one.

They all have issues. Some are on the outside and some, on the inside and it's pretty bad all around. I see child abuse in both families - I see spousal abuse in one, I see a pact of evil (~hardeehahah~ nontheless evil) in the other, and I see innocent children paying with their psyches in both.

I think the kids are sane, they're just following the parents' dictum as kids usually will do. The customer service mom also seems very nice and stable but it really boggles the mind, why, why, why - she would stay with an abusive man like him. For the sake of the girls, lady - get out asap.
