  • Greetings from germany! :D どいつじんです!

  • So if you wanten to write the word 'book' in kanji, you would only need this one? Because hon was book, right?

  • confuuusing

  • okay so if on is chinese and kun is japanese, well what ive been going by is kanji and katakana and hiragana i hope i spelled those right but could u explain when the three of them are used because i just dont understand fully?

  • Nice teacher..........can't concentrate.....hehehe!

  • ?????? Japanese is hard to learn man. I'm still confused, japanesepod101, plz help me.

  • So if the chinese one is moto. Do they use kun in japanese last names? Because my mom's last name is 杉本. (Sugimoto)

  • @maneatingbanana the Chinese have different names for these characters, but when put together they have the same meaning....

  • @chapusa100 Yeah i know, i already knew that.

  • hyuukmx

  • jsjio.,f

  • She's so playful, her smile is always big.

  • Your tip of tongue once touches on the upper palate then breaks.

  • Looks like Japaanese R is American's T. Like in water or Toto; ワラ、トロ.

  • When I count books, I use Satsu. 本(書物)を数える時は冊を使います。 本の意味はoriginです。booksはすべてのoriginだからでしょうか? 本はcolloqiual で書物はformalです。 The meaning of 本 is origin. Why we say books Hon? Are books origin of every thing?

  • I have a huge question that keeps bothering me. Do Japanese readers use a larger font on their browsers? It is really hard for me to differentiate some Kanji in a "casual/normal" English/Latin Lang font size.

Should I zoom in, or I need better training?

  • "き本" is the pronounciation of "基本", which also means base, or origin.

  • Your are the best Japanese teacher !

    Arigatu ^_^

  • do i need to study on readings?

  • I believe this kanji can also refer to 'a book' and is used to count certain objects (but not for counting books). Am I right?

  • I think I'm starting to get it! Thank you so much xD

  • i really don't get it

  • 煮豆持作羹,漉豉以為汁。萁在釜下燃,豆在釜中泣。本自同根生,相煎何太急?

  • howmany kanji's are there? something like 2000?(i read that somewhere)

  • @Jilltheanimelover I read somewhere that there are around 2000 commonly used kanji, and around 5000 in total. xD

  • @Warhiji wow that's so much :O :D

    ty for answering

  • @Jilltheanimelover That's not "much" at all. There are approximately 85568 Hanzi (漢字, the origin of the so-called Kanji).

  • Does it really matter whether you use the on or kun readings unless you're using more than one kanji in a row, in which you would use on for them?

  • 本 also means ''book'' doesn't it? =D

  • The "kun" reading...is it Hiragana? It's written just like hiragana...

Also, is the "on" reading the same as katakana?

  • @WorldOfSnakes I believe the kun is hiragana and on is katakana(Which is used for foreign words)

  • @Nicro327 Thank you!:)

  • arigatou gozaimasu

i already know Japanese but i just wanted to thank you because my cousin has found these videos and she is speaking very good Japanese and writing good Kanji. i am back in Kyoto and im glad i can speak to the English side of my family with my hometown language. so again arigatou :)

  • I don't really understand~

what is the on and kun for? Please answer my question

  • please can someone help me watch?v=Ao73d5542CI

  • Gotta love the trees ^^

  • I don't understand anything T_T

  • Hey. Can you tell me what 能古 (noko) means

  • so.. can tou use kanji to write western names?

  • i think there is a easier way to explain 「本」

    this kanji's another meaning is "book" . so;

learners saw the "tree"'s kanji at previous lesson. i mean they can write 「木」.

then we can say "a book is made from tree, so if we log the tree it will be a book" and we draw a little line on the kanji 「木」, it will be 「本」

this is more catchy. isn't it?

  • @japanesepod101 do u have to learn both the Kun and the On thing for japanese?

  • This is very helpful. Thank you, keep it up!

  • Nope - japanese accent.

Why do you think it sounds Indian?

  • @japanesepod101 I think his ear may have confused the "R" sound. I think you speak really cool. I love accents ^^ The musicality of both Indian and Japanese speech is something that you can note in English - but they are very different.
